I'd really check every square millimeter of that convertable top. Pour copious amounts of water on it to check for leaks.

Is it a stick?
I don't know, I've only looked at it driving by so far. Saturday I'm riding my bike the whole 5-6 miles its gonna take to go check it out, then decide if I'm even gonna talk with the owner. If it's auto I'm walking right there. I will not buy a V6 auto

I started thinking how to inspect a top when a MX-5 was brought up in discussion. I figured a hose to all the seems and edges, then everywhere else would be a good test.

Yah the auto/V6 combo is the only one that I wouldn't want.

Dad's stang has that, I don't dig it. Something in me just doesn't like it. That and I have a habit of pushing the pedal down further 'till I get moving like I want, from driving stick. The Torque converter gives just that little delay I'm not used to.

Don't hate on the auto, you can still have fun in an auto. And you'll no doubt spend less $$$ on transmission repairs as GM autoboxes are super durable. And my suggestion is take a 5 gallon bucket and just directly pour (not dump!) the water on the top (more importantly around the edges and seams). Its a good idea to have someone inside or place a solid white sheet over the interior of the car.

I know I can still have fun, but I much prefer stick in a lower power car. To me it feels faster then. I get my license at the end of next month, so it's not like I don't have a car to drive at the moment. Couple other cars I'd love to see from Autotrader, but this camaro is super local.

If the manufacturer of the vehicle decides that a lowly underpowered rental fleet version is a "X" car, then thats what it is. You may feel that only certain models truly represent that model, but that underpowered POS may be the epitome of that car to someone else.

Who is to say you're right and they aren't. Or vice versa.

Missed the discussion, but I pretty much agree... whatever the manufacturer says the car is... that's it...

What a base model is is just less desirable than the full-on model... whether it's any good as a car per se will depend on the car itself, not what's on the spec sheets or on the bootlid.

...and of course, the "lesser" models tend to pay the bills.

Occasionally, however, the "lesser" models can be the better choices out of the whole family. I seem to recall that for a time, it was the "stripper" versions of the Nissan Sentra and Mazda Protege that were the best options for a cheap, well-tuned car that was a blast to drive. The same can be said for some of the Foci we've received in the US, and hell, even the old Mitsubishi Mirage as well.

I'm a big fan of the "stripper models," personally. They give you the most bang for the buck, while at the same time, give you a bit of a different perspective on what the "true" version of the car is (or is not).

I dont get your point? So to have pride in your car you have to own a top of the range car?

If you saved up for years to buy say a 911 and you could only afford a Carrera 2 does that mean you should care about it less than say if you could afford a Turbo or a GT2?

I just think if it matters that much perhaps she should use a different car to park for 8 hours. Dont get me wrong I treat my car like gold (a 50 air filter for a 1.8 talon?) but here I see Z06s and porches parking right up front and what not, but she double parks and gets very far away. hmm I think my point is that double parking is pointless really.

I disagree. A car is a car, girl can be proud of her car if she wants to be but paranoid. No.

Try and tell her that her car is not a true Firebird.

Or that this guy does not have a true Camaro.

http://www.fquick.com/garages/Chevrolet/Camaro/1997/125

They shoulda had V8s... Its what they were meant to have.. Now if Firebirds had always come in V6 form or for even like the last few years then that's would be the "true" versions. Unless they eliminate the V8 from the new Camaro its still not a true Camaro until it has one under its hood.

I'm sick and tired of people discriminating against the lower model range OF ANY CAR. :grumpy What's wrong with people owning a base model? If they are normal people and don't do stupid stuff with their car like idiotic exhaust and the like I say leave them alone if they love their car. Double parking--unless way far away--is retarded. But, don't hate someone because they own a base model. I'd KILL to own a normal base 2.5L non-turbo automatic R33 Skyline. I'd love to own a base model 6cyl 60's Mustang or Camaro/Firebird. I'd sell your children to own a base 2008 SL350 (in America).

My last example is actually literally MY example...

This is my car:

1990 Chevy Camaro RS 305 TBI <--

I might as well have a V6 model for the amount of disrespect I get from people who feel the way you do. I treat it like its worth $1,000,000 USD, because to me it is worth that and more. But, if it isn't an IROC or Z28 its worthless right? Rubbish, I love my car more than anything else--even if it was the V6 model. Do I care that according to the haters that I have "the wrong V8? Hell no. I wouldn't take ANY of your cars on this forum from any of the 1,000's of members here for even trade. ZERO. 👍

I could go on. So, yes she's a ditz for parking retardedly irregardless of the car, but she has a right at least to take pride in her car. If she feels its worth something then it is.

See i think you missed my point there, I have a 1.8 little ol talon, Whenever I say talon or anything they are all like "Oh you got a turbo 4wd right?" I say "no" then they are like" Well it has a turbo" I say "no I have the very lowest Base model, not much for performance but I get 33 mpg hwy." Its a clean looking car but I don't double park in a crowd and I don't park super far away. I know, no matter how much I want people to know my cars are like the best things in the world for me, it wont change how people react to it. So it will probably go semi unnoticed anyways. Hell one time I was really far away b/c there was no place else to park and i still got a scratch and dent on my car from someone who decided they shouldn't even leave a number. However if you had a Viper or something people would most likely notice it and hey, be careful around it. I was just pointing out that she was a dumbass, I even told her that there are loose carts further out you go and she said its been hit by one of them anyways :p

But hey thanks for responding its cool to see some different views and at least we were agreeing on some things.

Oh and sorry for posting 3 times in a row :dunce:

Of course! Go ahead and tell me I don't own a true talon and it just looks like a talon. Because its the truth and I don't hide that fact.

Corvette Z06, Turbo Supra, Viper GTS, Viper Coupe, Mazdaspeed 3/6, Crossfire SRT6, Neon SRT4, Lancer Evolution, AE86 GT-S, Caliber SRT4, Magnum SRT-8.

These are all the trim levels we care about that were not released in the first year of the model.

Well they are all have essentially what the original had just better, an "upgrade" if you will. So anyone could say those are the true versions. I would call some of those true version and others upgrades as well. You know its kind of a heritage thing as well. You mention the Supra(assuming mk4 that from '93 had a tt version) had it anything other then a I6 it would not be a true supra. You know, a large sum of people have an Idea of what a type of car should come with and the way it should be, they probably think that thats the true version then. I dont think the new NSX is a "True" NSX because its engine is in the front. And this is all really just a matter of opinion I was just curious what other people thought anyways.

On a side note, The viper GTS and Coupe are one and of the same unless your talking about the 2008 Coupes and the 2002 GTS what exactly do you mean?

Also you bring up the Evo, okay now that's a trim that been going on for so long most people say that's the true car anyways, and they all still have that faith full little I4 in them too.

There's a V6 Firebird that does 8.9s in the ¼mi. Its truely scary. So tell this buy how his V6 isn't a real Fbody. :D

3:00 in is the 8.9s run.

I think you are taking the "real" thing way too seriously.

One of the cars I grew up in was a 1966 Mustang Notch back. It was a 200cid stright 6 with an autotrans.

That little car would climb Beverly Hills at 60MPH.
I would have had that car instead of the T-Bird had it not been sold and then promplty wrecked when I was 14.

I took it for a real mustang.
No it was not a "fire-breathing" 289. But it was a beautiful car.
My T-bird was not a 428 cid "sports-roadster", but it was a real T-bird.
My mother had 3 different Falcons. One was a 'Sprint' with a 260v-8. Even though the original Mustang was a re-skinned Falcon, that Sprint was no Mustang. And as cool as it was, and as quick as it was--it was still a Falcon.

You said it would be the top of the line version in the first year, so I was giving examples of a few cars that just didn't cut it for some people (me, in many cases) until the more "upgraded" model came out.

As for the Supra, it was the MK3 that was released in '86 and didn't get a turbo until '87. Trust me, an NA MK3 gets NO respect. As for the I6 thing, Supras have always had I6 engines, just not always turbo'd.

As for Vipers, the GTS debuted in '96, and the Coupe I mentioned debuted in '06, I believe. When I was shopping 2nd gens for a while, I was in no way interested in the droptop RT/10s. Just not the "real deal" to me, and I know I'm not alone on that.

Slow.

Well, slower than what a Buick V6 can send one to.

Another example is the front-wheel drive Audi A3 2.0T; there's no compelling reason to get the 3.2-liter quattro in that car, unless you must have four-wheel drive and need highway/mountain-passing torque: You add 300 pounds, get the same 0 to 60 mph time, lose the frisky handling, make steering a chore, and you pay more for it.

PLUSSSSSSSSS ONEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

Why do they even offer the 3.2?!?!?

The more expensive version just has to have Quattro... this is Audi... y'know...

bloody hockey sticks, this is starting to sound ridiculous. like the fight over (in the US) a ford with a Chevy crate motor in it or something. for Pete's sakes, people...

I wouldn't worry about the "right" engine or form unless I was selling the bloody thing at Barrett-Jackson or Pebble Beach. it's a car, it's supposed to be driven. and as long as it runs, I'm fine.
