The Ultimate Ferrari?

Oh yes, the revs.. there's a lot and some more of them in that car. and 5 valves per cylinder too..

Sorry but the 599XX is tacky. The original 599 looks much much nicer, the XX version looks like a 19 year old SEMA entrant got hold of it.

👍

Ferrari are famous for making successful racing cars and road going supercars. The 599XX and FXX are neither - so can't possibly be the 'ultimate Ferrari'

...i like the p4/5 because it's newer and faster.

The P3/4 has approximately 625bhp per ton where as the Enzo based P4/5 has 'only' 491bhp per ton. So i doubt the newer one is any faster.

to stop this thread slowing down, whats everybody's favourite mid engined V8? ( you know, the 308, 348, 355, 360, 430 + earlier ones I left out)

I'd have to say on that basis, the 355. It looks better than the 360, and apparently it was as hard in comfort mode as a 360 was in race mode.
The 360 was more powerful, but they both have the same power to weight ratio.
The 430 is up there too, but I'm a 90's boy, so I grew up with the F40, the 355 and the Diablo.

This is the ultimate Ferrari, the F2004.

ohh yes, because I can take that down to the shops can't I?
If we are talking about F1, then whats saying the best Ferrari ever isn't beaten by the best Renualt?

So who will do another thread like this in the Cars in General forum with another brand?:)

To be fair, the original poster never said anything about the ultimate Ferrari being road legal. :sly:

yeah, good point, but the only way the average person with a wad of dough can experience that is to have a 5 star week holiday to a racetrack. C'mon, we all need to experience a Ferrari at some point in our life (anyone in the Sydney area got one and wants to give me a go/ride?) and the best one at that. Let's change the yardstick so that the best ones are the ones we can access.
Your's is diffinatey the fastest though!

Good question. I'd pick the 360CS - well, the 360 in general, which I've always preferred to the 355. Ferraris for me have to be curvy, and the 355 looked a bit dull next to the 360.

As for the ride comfort... well, having naturally harder suspension just makes the car less usable. I'd rather have softer settings with the option of making them stiffer for quicker driving.

Despite this, my favourite is the 360CS, even though it's a bit of a boneshaker! It takes the gorgeous curves of the normal 360 yet brings back a dose of the agression from the 355 - you could say it's the best of both.

Sounds amazing too...

I can't pick just one.

In no particular order:

Ferrari Enzo - not the greatest or best looking. But you can't argue against a car named after the founder of the company.
F50 - a curvy f40
F40 - tough
288 GTO - maybe even tougher looking than the f40
250 GTO - classic beauty

I'd have to agree to that, in general the 360CS seemed to be the call to the war that has been between the powers at Lamborghini, and of course, Porsche as well. Not to say that they weren't before, but in general, it seemed to have gone nuclear after that shot across the bow.

I do also have to admit, however, that I have a softspot for the 308, as it was the first Ferrari I was ever able to sit in and tinker with.

But, in general, I'm an FR purist with Ferrari. The 575 Superamerica and Daytona will forever be my favorites, hands down, no questions asked.

Neither can a Bugatti, Koenigsegg or Pagani. But I'm sure any of those companies (or Ferrari) wouldn't mind flying a mechanic to your house to fix something if anything went wrong.

And besides, the threadstarters example of the 599xx isn´t exactly streetlegal either!

Personally, I´m a big fan of GT racing, so the Prodrive 550 Maranello comes high on my list, as does the ItalTechnica developed 575 GTC. Another one is the F50 GT1 and yet more the F40 LM.
As for roadcars, the Daytona is a fave, and so is the 599 GTB.

I think you'll find you've got more chance of taking a road-legal Bugatti, Koenigsegg or Pagani supercar to the shops than an F1 car.

Case in point, a few years ago I watched a Mosler MT900 pull into my local Tescos. It scraped like crazy over the 6 speedbumps you need to travel over to get into the main car park, but it got in with little hassle and the driver got out and went shopping (three full carrier bags).

I doubt many companies will fly mechanics to your house to fix a car unless they know that you have stupid amounts of money. The only company I know will do this for a less expensive supercar is Spyker (who provide arguably THE best customer service of ANY car maker), who flew a few technicians from Holland to The Hague, New York in the U.S.A.

Back on topic: I agree about the 360/360CS being the best Mid-V8 (In my opinion, of course). The 360CS would likely be the first supercar I would buy if I had the money (Fairly easy to drive on the limit, easy to balance if things get out of shape, and a great soundtrack!)

The 308 is the ultimate for me, it's down to a reasonable cost which means an entry to Ferrari ownership :) Plus it looks awesome.

Besides that, the ultimate one is maybe a F40? I love being in a stripped out car, and if there's one thing the F40 is, it's stripped out :)

I'd go as to say that the F40 is a racecar trimmed up instead of a road car stripped. Top machine 👍

And the Testarossa? Great car, but it can now be beaten by a Saab in an over taking test (not sure what speeds).
I'd keep the same sort of shape and go with a 512 TR...now that is a really understated car.

Psch, I obviously don't care about its ability as a car, its just my favourite to look at...mostly because I'll probably never ever drive it.

As for F1 cars, I don't really like the modern ones, despite them dominating. I kind of liked some of the shapes they used in the early 90s, but generally Ferrari were pretty good at making nice-looking F1 cars (all-red paint wins generally) ignoring this monstrosity:

This thread is becoming more "What is the ultimate Ferrari" than discussion on the 599XX. The thread name should be changed.

:odd:

The thread title already describes exactly what we're doing. The thread isn't about the 599XX - that car was only present because the original poster believed that it's the ultimate Ferrari.

actually, if you look at the "original poster"'s second post, you will find that he (yours truly) posted a couple more... so look again.

and my favorite mid-engined v8? the new scuderia. i think it's actually faster than an f40 (which comes in 2nd)

yes... thank you for that, but i wasn't talking about you. i was talking about the other haters who are whining that "ohh... the 599xx isn't street legal... it's ugly and tacky..."

i was just bringing it to their attention that i had posted three other cars for them to look at.

Well then call me a hater, because compared to what Ferrari have done in the past, the 599 is as tacky as a pink Mondial.

and yet no one has commented on how epically awesome the 288 evo is...

Have you even considered people may not share your views on this. So far I'm just reading negativity from you. You keep pushing the idea that the 599xx is best, sure in your view but don't keep posting about the same thing unless it's new pics or a few vids.

The 288GTO Evo has more holes in it than the plot for the 2nd and 3rd matrix movies. Still very cool though.
