The ULTIMATE in racing realism

so im hugely addicted to gt3 again, more so to drift instead of actually race this time around...anyways i was reading around the forums and have seen that many people prefer using a wheel over the dualshock, so i will be getting one here very soon. this led me stumble across the new sparco racing cockpit pro fighter model which will be released around the time of gt4, but of course only in japan, in limited edition, for the low sum of 98,000 yen or about $1,000. the japanese always get everything!!!

dont worry tho, all hope is not lost. if u wanna attempt to make ur own check this site out: http://www.geocities.com/racingcockpit/eindex

or u can always buy one from these guys, tho not quite as nice as the sparco version: http://www.jmracing.com/racerstation/pages/features.html

lastly, for the hardcore racer who must have it all, this site has EVERYTHING, including cockpits, pedal sets with a clutch, sequential shifters, h-shifters...anything u could want..this site makes me wanna go to the bank and take a loan out to buy one of everything they have: http://www.frex.com/gp/

thats all for now, i can update it when i stumble upon some more sites and such if anyone wants me to.

the end!

You think that's ultimate?

Yoshi from The Screen Savers (on G4TechTV) created a racing pod that cost almost $40,000USD. Complete with 400W transducer called the buttkicker. :D

It was 30000 but still alot.

Hey, I just used an old TV stand, mounted the pedals inside and added some wood on top to bring the wheel closer to my lap. I was planning to build a complete sitin cockpit 'box' but this works so well I think it is done.

Playstation2 costs about $270.00 here right now.
I went into my local gamestore to look for the Driving Force Pro...

...and saw that it costs $311.00.

Geez man! It does less than the PS2 and it is more expensive!!
I still want it though. :(

I couldn't imagine spending that kind of money for a racing sim when you could go through race driving school and actually start racing real cars.

Compared to endlessly playing GT4, how many lessons will a sim's cost buy you?

Cheers,

MasterGT

money. is. a. big. problem. for. some. people.

why can't things be free. they should make a new amendment that says
"freedom of... freeness" .. yah. WHOO HOO

That "racing pod" sim cost around $30,000 USD to make, which is about $39,000 CDN.
At the bridgestone racing academy in ontario you can get a 4-day racing course (which meets the CASC and the SCCA race liscense requirements) for about $5200 CDN. That leaves you with about $33,000 left over to build a car and start racing. I would take that over endlessly playing GT4 any day.

If things were free i'd get all the Nissan Skylines and Ferrari F50's i could before anyone else had the chance. *evil laugh*

anyone have pics or info, i cant find yoshi's pod anywheres

me thinks that his little 30000usd pod was the only one ever built, but might make a few more( maybe mass production, maybe.) :dopey:

One could always go for the 'virtual gt' as seen here

Perks:
1. Build to run GT3..and probably GT4 as well!
2. Use of the Logitech Momo Force (old red one) wheel
3. Dashboard configured to run macros, for a lack of better words, that will instantly get you to any location w/out having to press so many buttons.
4. Includes one large 37inch LCD monitor

Gotta love what money can buy eah? LOL!

I've been looking into my options, as well... I really like this setup:

http://www.bhmotorsports.com/article/155

...but it is only available for the PC, I think. Oh, and its $1100. For just the wheel and pedals. Note, however that the pedals are actually hinged from the top, like they are supposed to be (in most cars).

These guys seem to build a really quality wheel and pedal set, too.

http://www.thomas-superwheel.com/prods.html#tsw

..again, only for the PC. And also around $1000. Honestly, if I could find something of similar quality for the PS2, I would actually pay that much for it, as there ain't much racing that can be done in Winter around here.

Is there anything better out there than the DFP for the PS2?

Is there anything better out there than the DFP for the PS2?

Nope. Lots of worse stuff.. the old DF is still pretty nice, I think, but doens't hold a candle to the new one. And, of course, there's the usual batch of cheap MadCatz wheels and such.

I'm still trying to figure out the wheel thing myself. I do want to get one, I just can't spare a hundred bucks to do it. I wish someone would come out with an alternative to the DFP.. another wheel with 900-degree rotation and a sequential shifter, but at a lower cost, and I'd be golden.

Well, after doing a little more reading, the Frex stuff looks to be the most promising. I can start out with a DFP, then upgrade it whenever I want. There are alot of cockpits out there, a few decent looking ones for $300 or so. (example: http://www.bobearlracing.com/) The more expensive ones usually come with a nice name-brand racing seat, and that is what drives the cost up, just like a $200 MOMO steering wheel drives the price up on the Frex, TSW, and others. Hell, I'd be happy with a junkyard wheel from an old Corvette or something, just as long as it feels more authentic than your ordinary gaming wheel.
