if of course you were not a born, bred and trained racer... (can you hear me, richard hammond?)

that is one of my dearest ambitions, though. (driving an f1 car)

true, especially this one:

or this:

I'm liking that M5... though I'm personally inclined to suggest anything made by Alpina as the ultimate BMW, as they usually have similar performance as M models (fair enough, probably not as much as the one above!) but with more refinement, more exclusivity and more taste. And they look brilliant.

Default answer is E30 M3.
Then M1.

Others?

330D Sport. Tweak it a little and you have a useful daily driver/ track toy.

Or a BMW 700 with a more modern fuel injected engine. From the black bike pictured above perhaps?!?!?

YSSMAN
E39 M5

Its one of my top-five cars of all time. The timeless shape, incredible powertrain, and otherwise "perfect" balance of sport and comfort. Yeah, its the best BMW. Ever.

I'd go with that, or the E46 M3. Both are immediate classics.

I am happy my real-life ride made such a good showing, the mighty E39 M5.

To me it is the perfect marriage of practicality and supercar sensibilities, although I am a little biased I guess!
