I think it's hard to look at the list of cars in GT5 in an objective way mainly because people have different tastes in cars. For example, GT5 has been criticized by a lot of people for being too focused on Japanese cars. This is something I agree with, but if someone is a big fan of Japanese cars, this maybe a non-issue to that person. Another good example is the large inclusion of non-performance vehicles or everyday mass production cars we see in droves on the streets and highways. Some people say these cars are a waste and would rather see more exotic and higher performing cars (basically machines most average people may never get to drive in their lives), while some people enjoy the inclusion of such cars, seeing it as unique in a world where video game developers only want to include the hottest and most popular vehicles at the time (to prove my point, play some racing games from ten years ago and you'll probably find a car that a lot of titles had in it at the time but today is very sparse or non-existent).

The other thing is GT5's line-up is compared to Forza's line-up quite often, and the consensus I've seen is that while Forza has less cars, it is considered "more well rounded" in that it doesn't focus too much on one area (i.e. Japanese cars) and has more desirable vehicles (not as many plane Jane mass production cars).

So given how the opinions can vary from one end to the other, what are your thoughts on GT5's car list?

You've hit the nail on the hammer. Forza 4's car list is pretty much the best car list there. Add in some F1 cars, and some older rally cars; then you'll find perfection.

The inclusion of an X2010 is cool but in my opinion a waste of valuable time; which could have been spent on rendering some newer cars such as the: Ferrari FF, Lamborghini Aventador etc.

The race cars in GT5 are also a let down. No new GT1/GT3/LMS cars in premium have been introduced. The C Class cars are majorly standard and the Group B rally cars are also given low respect. This can also be said for the Formula Gran Turismo. Surely PD could have created a version 2 of this car rather than an X2011. In premium with better aerodynamics and a better (not more powerful) engine this car could have gone far.

Gran Turismo is a wonderful game but having to add ridiculous cars just to create numbers is like trying to sell goods without making profit just so you can sell heaps of goods. Quality over quantity is what Kaz needs to learn.

I think they need to pay Jay Leno a visit and include all the cars in his garage instead of just having the Blastolene special he has a varied taste in cars and is a petrolhead in his own right as is Jay Kay from the band Jamiroquai he also has a spectacular car collection maybe PD don't know what being a true petrolhead is all about. Car culture is not about rice rockets car culture is as varied as the weather in england.

The list really needs to be more varied. Forza list varies greatly.

More Lambos and Ferraris would be nice. Race spec ones!

The X1 is one car. I doubt you would get more than 1 car if you "traded" it for something else.

Also, what about every other fantasy car? Or the clone Miatas? The X1 is one of the last things that should be cut from the game.

Anyway, PD needs to copy Forza when it comes to car lists. Use Forza's as a base, than add all the weird/crazy cars that GT always has. I don't mind slow cars, I also don't mind Japanese cars. But I do mind when 5 cars are really the same car.

Agreed.... Dont want any Volvos though.....

What's wrong with Volvo's they used to use them in racing way back when, I would much prefer a racing Volvo over the Batman X2010.

That was back then. Theyre just not cool anymore lol.

Well the PoleStar is but that wasnt put together by Volvo.

Give me some Porsches, Race spec Mercs, ferraris, Audis and Lambos.

I used to find Kaz's obsession with his country's cars kind of endearing, but that ship set sail a long time ago.

Every time I'm reminded that there's more premium Nissan GTR's (not even counting the new ones, just the 90's models) than there are premium Astons, I can't help but be outright disgusted.

It was fun back in the early GT days when the only car I knew of was the Skyline lol. Im over 20 years old now and have been driving for well over 6 years... I've seen alot.... I want some good choices

Well considering the history of GT, it has always been japanese oriented. I think the list of cars is very nice. I have to say that the origin of this thread lies in the whole premium/standard thing. If all cars were premium it was the greatest carlist ever to be in a game. Not even Forza could hold a candle to it. Sadly that isn't the case.

A concequence of the premium models is that apparently it takes that much time to make a premium model, that the models in GT5 are a little old. The number of new cars in wich segment what so ever is dissappoiting to say the least. In this Forza has a very nice list. I would love to drive the latest Fiesta or Punto.

I think that is what's "wrong" with the carlist of GT5. Premium/standard and not very up-to-date.

Everything can always be better. Does GT have some stupid cars that make me shake my head and go WTF!!! Yeah, it does. But thats also whats so cool about it. Its got everything, right down to boring old VW's that you will never drive. I do agree more up to date car models should be included, but again whatever. I can always find something fun to drive in my garage. On topic of the car list being Japanese biased, I would agree there as well. Though I love Japanese cars( owned them all my life and currenty have a 370z parked in my driveway) so that bias bothers me very little. I was hoping that a fresher batch of cars was coming with the DLC. Im pretty let down by the list, I mean a Prius touring car?? Come on PD. Would have been a great chance to offer like somebody said, the Aventador. Or an Ariel Atom!! Jeez Id even take a new Mustang 5.0.

Personally, I like the older cars, especially the quirky ones. Even if it's just to take them for a leisurely cruise around the 'ring. However, I'm gonna go through my garage & weed out all those dozens of Skylines, Mazdas & Toyotas, etc. that I felt compelled to buy at the time & get rid of most of them. They just collect dust.

PD are Japanesse so you would expect them to be overloaded with Japanesse cars, I think its only fair as they form the majority of the cars in GT, altho alot of them may seem insignificant to us, for the Japanesse people they probably dont.

I think with Europe being the main GT area there should have maybe been more cars which are relevent to us as a region (Mexico's/RS/Cosworth/Gti/Gsi/MSport/Amg) to name a few, as they are cars we can connect with.

I think thats one of the reasons Forza have maybe a better mix, Amercia as a region have similer cars to Europe and they probably import alot of the cars we see obn a daley basis so they can connect to there users as they know what cars they'll like, Japan on the other hand probably dont import as many cars as they are very good at making there own so.............

:/

I like volvos. I owned two, the 850 and 940 turbo, and the turbo had a truly amazing turning radius with some secret boost to boot.

I prefer cars that I'm familiar with, plus others that I would never drive , ever.

So basically, the more the merrier.

GT5 provides so much diversity, it's hard to fault imo.

I think they are starting to go in the right direction. Of course, you had millions of MX-5's RX-7 and Miatas in GT4, and they got transferred to GT5, so that's why they're here. But premium line-up I think is quite good, just missing some cars, but there are only 230 of them. But you have LMP's, GT300's, GT500's, F1, European road cars, American muscle cars and of course Japanese cars. Ok, there are at the moment 7 Skyline's (road ones), but Black Mask and Proto were just carried over from Prologue and SpecV is faster. And the other ones are just one from each generation, which is fine for me.

But game needs just more cars, some should be carried away from Standard to Premium, like an E-Type, XFR, 190E, Audi Quattro, RUF Yellow Bird, but also new cars, like Astons, Toyota Supra, MR-2... There are a lot cars that are worth putting them into the game. I seriously wouldn't mind if they made the classic Skylines Premium :D

Regarding Premium cars, I don't like the focus in GT5 on supercars and racecars. I'd like more average and sub-average street cars.

I think the car list needs to be newer. The game is a 2010 game, yet the cars in it are not that up to date. I too would like more normal, enthusiast cars.

Sorry, I love GT5.... So much so that Im prepared to point out its weak point.

There is nothing diverse about its list of cars. Other Racers offer great diversity. If you cant see that then youre indenial.

Why does a game require so many Skylines?

I think PD is lacking in terms of evolving with the market. As new, exciting cars get released, PD needs to stay on top of its game with DLCs and updates, and of course, including the right cars from the beginning. It's not fair to say that there are "too many" japanese cars or miatas or GTrs or whatever, alot of them were ported from GT4 if I am not mistaken, so that was the foundation they had to go on already.

Forza 4's car lineup is alot more balanced, and includes more enthusiast and super level cars, rather than cars that most people would look to drive in a racing game.

I'm even looking at their tracklist, they also have the Top gear track! Haha, an obvious cue from PD there, but they've included multiple layouts and drag strips etc. Its as if they looked into forums on GT5s shortcomings and factored that into their game which is smart. haha.

I'd never really leave GT5 since it was the series I'm loyal to, and I enjoy the fanbase, online, physics, and other aspects, but I do feel like PD needs to get with the times and listen to what people want.

Heres FOrza's Car and Track list

There are not that many premium Skylines though, are there? The standards doesn't count because they're from GT4.

I for one hate new cars, and would much rather have DLC packs filled with 60's and 70's classics.

My post regards to both standard and premium.

The list isnt as diverse as lists offered by other racing titles. Sad truth

Take FM 3 car list + FM 4 physics + Shift2's track list and night racing + GT5's photo mode and weather effects = One awesome console game.

4 of the 15 new DLC cars (11 if you don't count the karts and X2010) are Skylines. All but ONE of the cars are Japanese. Obviously the bias towards Japanese cars is set to continue.

After looking at forza 4s list, it seems to include the cars that seem illogical that they are missing from GT5. A Ferrari 250 gto being a prime example, seeing as the cobra 427 is in the game, there's lots of rival cars should be included in the game. As well as significant holes in represented eras.

1980s cars in particular seem extremely under represented when it was an excellent era for exciting cars. Group B is present, just about, but what about the touring cars of the era, which would be excellent in GT5.

Then there's the manufacturers that are represented, but seem to only be represented with bizzare choices. Surely they can expand on the existing manufacturers without encountering significant licensing issues? It's not like we want entirely new manufacturers, just the existing ones with their notable models missing filled in.

I see a diverse palette in regards of a little something of everything. The old military vw, kart, rally, formula, nascar, GT, trucks, vans, wagons, street, drift, concepts, weird(could use more)...

I just respect the driving options that GT presents, as almost every automotive genre is represented.

Well, besides truck pulls:/
