Ok, GT4 had [roughly] 50 "individual" tracks, right?

With all of the variations of those, what was the total track count in GT4?

For instance Suzuka was 1 track with 3 variations. Daytona is 1 and has 2 variations. Indy is 1 with 2.
 
If you assume "layout" is colloquialism for "fantasy circuit" (it's not much of a reach - a course laid out rather than one preset) then you have more than 20 real life tracks and more than 60 PD-created ones.

Doesn't that seem slightly more likely?

Do you guys think the 170 cars with "inside damage" could mean literally in the car, like engine & transmission, etc. Including NASCAR & Rally seems to really make sense with this because those 2 racing types have lots to do with how they perform inside?

+1 good call. In Colin Mcrae Dirt you can wreck your engine. Even in Live for speed you can break your clutch. I reckon this is the case

GT4 had 54 Total tracks.

60 tracks+20 layouts is wishful thinking. Sometimes Japanese to English is shaky, this isn't one of those times. It's 20+ tracks with 60+ layouts.

It sucks. We're just going to have to deal with it.

20 tracks is nonsense i can go into more detail than my previous post if needs be.

True but on this one a bit of common sense should indicate that the translation of 20 courses is probably incorrect.

GT5P has 6 tracks.

We have also seen Tsukuba, Nurburgring, La Sarthe and of course the Top Gear test track. We have also seen a rally track of some description.

With that in mind, that leaves only 7 tracks (rally track hasn't been included in master list).

That means that PD must have had to ditch the the majority of their original tracks and real tracks. likely? no.

Added to that, why would they get the WRC licence and then only have a stage or two, it doesn't make sense.

60 sounds far more realistic using what we currently know.

Not to mention the numerous ones mentionned at the end credits and the home page such as Spa,Zolder,Brands Hatch etc...

Yup. 80 tracks. If GT4 had 54, GT5 won't have less. Same with the cars, GT5 won't get downscaled from GT4 in pretty much any category, nope, I think I could say any category.

No, it's not. Considering GT4 had 50+ tracks, it's only natural to think that GT5 would have at the *VERY* least 60 tracks. Wishful thinking would be thinking that one of the upgrade options for cars in the game is a JATO (Jet Assisted Take-Off) Rocket. Also, fantasy track on mars.
 
GT5 will probably follow the same model as Prologue in that it will come in several Specs. This is probably Spec I and I remember correctly when Prologue was released there were only 30+ cars (as oppose to 60+ currenly in Spec III) and one less track (HSR was added in Spec II). GT5 in all probability will be only GT games for the PS3 and instead of releasing another one in couple of years, what we'll be seeing is an upgrade and improvement to the initial version.

60 fantasy tracks is a lot IMO. If you don't include city tracks.(Those who doesn't exist like london.)

Eiger, London, Daytona, Indianapolis, Top Gear, Rally Toscana, Fuji, Suzuka, Tsukuba, High Speed Ring, Nürburgring and La Sarthe. That's 12. Any more? Well, I don't think there will be only 8 more unknown tracks. That'd be epic failure...
 
GT4 didn't include tracks like New York as "Real Circuits", so I have no reason to assume GT5 would.

Of GT5P's tracks, the two Daytonas, two Fujis and two Suzukas would be "tracks". The two Londons, the two High Speed Rings and the two Eigers would be "layouts".
 
Seriously... I am leaning towards the idea that interior damage means Inside the car damage or more specifically Mechanical damage that isn't viewable as such but would play a big role. Rally games have had it for years and if it is only 170 cars with this premium damage sureley that would make up for the rally cars and the race series cars...

Clearly a lot of details are also being left for TGS. Nascar and WRC have not even been mentioned yet let alone any details about weather. The scan also said the next tibit of news will be at TGS so we will have to wait.

Personally I am very excited about tomorrow because we will FINALLY see gameplay from the full game. I can only assume it will include a car which has damage so PD show off the damage engine for the first time.

from what i understand of games design all you would need to do to achieve this would be to program a game engine to calculate the physics and then just make each panel or part of car have enough polys to enable the deformation and add a physics simulator constraint to it. Physics reactors in games are so advanced now its not unfeasable at all. All other games have it so it can't be as difficult as some seem to think it is

That seems much much more likely than the idea of 20 tracks and 60 variations.

It is over 20 tracks with over 60 layouts - Japanese article has an particle no の　which as you probably know (you said you speak Japanese) means that these layouts "belong to" "are of" the tracks.

$ONY is going to get as much money out of us as possible - more tracks will probably come as DLC (that is only my opinion not any translation ;) )

For me that is the only disappointment in this whole info - I never cared about damage and I still don't and I play only from bumper view so interior is not that important for me too, but only over 20 tracks is too small - lets hope these tracks have totally new graphics, 60fps always (pre race, replays and when 16 cars are next to each other)
An interesting point is what will happen when damageable car meet not damageable one ? Only WRC or Nascar cars being damageable i not an excuse because one could always take Nascar car and race it on Eiger.

I am quite happy with the rest of the info - online futures mainly.

There might be more disappointments though - if Polyphony does not confirm few other things like - weather change, missions, time trail mode.
