Hi,

I've been looking around for XB1 deals for several days as I'm looking to get into Forza. I've been researching Forza bundles and I've got several questions that I'd like answered:

  • Some FM5 bundles I've seen in the UK contain the Racing Game of the Year edition that contains the free DLC tracks and the Top Gear Car Pack; is this all it the DLC this version has as standard or is there more in the GOTY edition? Not 100% but the GOTY edition seems to be short on total content available, has some extra tracks and some cars but not all of the DLC available.

  • FM5 bundles I've seen say the full game contained in the bundle is a digital download from Xbox Live; is XBL necessary in order for me to download and play it? Or once it's downloaded to the system, can I play it without XBL? You should have to do a one time online install/update and then be able to play offline, though utilizing the cloud makes the game better, constant drivatar updating etc?

  • The Xbox support page says that new users can sign up for a free XBL membership and/or a free 1 month trial of XBL Gold; what's the difference between the two? Does the same rules for cancelling the trial membership apply here as well?

  • If I were to go for the Horizon 2 bundle and buy a boxed copy of the vanilla version of FM5, what free DLC is available to download for both FM5 and H2? Not entirely sure as I have bought the FH2 carpass and nothing for FM5, I believe there was a Honda pack including 3 cars and FH2 offers a free car with each car pack and I think FM5 does too. Sorry for not giving a concrete answer.

I've been scratching my head about what to do, so I thought that I'd ask around here? I appreciate the help in answering these questions.

Regards

All hail the screenshot feature added today.

Perfect for capturing the kill cams in SE3.

Hey, you just need a Silver Live account to download FM5 free DLC like the tracks and some car packs, right?

Ill get a Gold one maybe down the line to do MP, but for now my sights are set on only free DLC.

Sniper Elite 3. IIRC it was on sale a while back for the Xbox (and currently on sale on PS4 :p).

Yes the new screenshot feature is so wonderful and long overdue. So nice to say "Xbox take a screenshot" and instantly it takes the pic without interrupting your game. Or if you don't have Kinect you can just double tap the guide button then hit the "Y" button.

Also Sniper Elite is an amazing game and it even has a full co-op campaign. I played the heck out of SE2 on the 360. I have been wanting to get SE3 on the X1 for a while. Some of the slow motion gore shots are very comparable to Fallout 3 Vats system but much more detailed in the Sniper Elite games.

Wow the detail is pretty damn good, I wasnt expecting that. Where do the photos go? Cant wait to mess with this :D
Mine were going to upload studio. Same place as the "xbox record that" videos. I think there is a site you can link to so its easier to access the videos from the PC. I agree the quality looks better than I expected. Most screenshots are compressed but those look good.

Ah, I think you're talking about OneDrive. I'll wait for @VXR to chime in on how he accessed them at his PC. I'm wondering if using this to capture a photo in FM5 would look better, or worse.

Uploaded to OneDrive, downloaded to my Mac from the browser. They even get their own folder to keep things neater.

Going for PNG instead of a high-compression JPEG is a masterstroke. We might have waited nearly 18 months for it, but it was executed really well. Would be nice to tag several photos at once and bulk upload, though. Spent 50 minutes sending 73 shots to OneDrive, which isn't the quickest, most pleasing work flow.

Nice I thought it was onedrive but wasn't sure. That option usually becomes available from the upload studio when you rename or re-create videos and pics. Thanks for the info.

My X1 L3 button quit working about a week ago. That's usually the button for sprinting in most games. Never seen that happen with a controller in my entire life of gaming. And I take very good care of all my stuff. I even store the controllers in a dust free ottoman. I have a 3 year warranty so not too big of a deal. It was quite funny however trying to "walk" around the maps in BF4. Especially while trying to avoid grenades.

Right; I can imagine!

I'm just a few days away from the X1 purchase. You know, the controller on my Elite once started acting up in a similar way.. kept dying in COD! And one day... just went away on its own.

Have you experienced any other hardware or software issues with your console?

No other major issues with the console. So far just the controller L3 button. I take meticulous care of my electronics. Even have built in cooling fans in my entertainment center and a dust collection system. You can see most of it in my signature.

My brother has had a problem with his X1 reading the disc. He has to listen for it to load the disc. If it doesn't work he has to eject and try again.

I do highly recommend getting an extended warranty. But that's up to you. Your console will come with at least 1 year warranty automatically from MS.

@TheCrazySwede was talking about the exact same issue - trouble reading discs, multiple tries seemed to fix it and one other thing I can't recall at the moment.

Mine's going to be a late 2014 manufactured model though. Is your brother's a launch one?

Built in cooling fans and dust suckers? Man, that is WHACK! Here's what I do:

I got a little pedestal fan blowing in cool air (from the AC) into the left side of my X360 console; I've also had it elevated by over half an inch using supplement bottle caps (:lol:) and it purrs like a kitten. No heating issues. I also turn on the ceiling fan sometimes along with the exhaust fan in my attached bath. Nice ventilation goings ons... minimal dust.

:gtpflag: !

Oh yeah I do remember reading somewhere on the forums.

I think my brothers X1 is also from mid to late 2014.

The cooler these systems run and the less dust they have, the longer they should last. Yeah I tend to over engineer sometimes.

Green Screen of Death today.

Woke up this morning and noticed my xbox was on. I know I turned it off before I went to bed, I made sure the light was off. Thought it was rather strange that it could turn itself on. I've been having other issues with the console lately so I guess this should be no surprise. I tried the usual troubleshooting methods, power cycle, unplug for 30 secs, holding the eject button an power button and none of them worked. A couple of times I no longer even got the Green screen anymore. Guess it's time to call Microsoft. If I lose all my data, I'm done, it will be sell and get a PS4 time.🤬

I think you need to switch to Energy Saving from the Settings menu and either use the controller button or power button to turn it on/off.

Always check your power supply: it should turn amber after a few secs, if the console's completely off.

And while I'm at it, can anyone tell me why the power light blinks 13 or 14 times during restarts or when you shut it down using the controller?

Your game saves are saved on both the console and the cloud, I believe.

The MS rep said 512Mb is stored on the cloud.

Tried the USB drive reset method ODUST2, didn't work, it's looking like I'm going to open a repair order and send it in. The only thing left to try is ODUST1.

Wow, that's so stingy. They throw free storage at you with OneDrive, presumably on the same Azure servers.

It's basically enough for game saves and that's it. When I get my console back everything else will have to be downloaded, installed all over again. The very first thing I'm going to do is turn the auto update off, because there is just something freaky about going to bed and having your console turn itself on wile you are sleeping only to brick itself during a failed update.

I suggest everyone else do the same, learn from the above.

Even if you have auto updates on (aka Always On mode), you can do a full shut down of your console by holding down the power button and proceeding to disconnect it from mains.

Edit: Can anyone tell me why the brick turns white before going to amber when you plug it in?

Am I supposed to wait until it turns amber? Also, after shutdown, it takes a while to go back to amber; should I wait until it turns amber before disconnecting from mains?

I ask because I don't leave it on. Always do a full power-up/shutdown.

I have had auto on turned off since I purchased the X1. I do not like it running the entire time I am in bed or at work. It is clearly putting a lot more stress on the system having it on 24/7. For those that don't know, if you have auto on turned on, the console never fully turns off and the fans are still slowly running. If you have that on, listen to your console and you can still hear it running to try and keep itself cool. So to prevent that, I have disabled that from the beginning. When I turn mine off, its off. Nothing running at all.

At that point, whats the reason for even leaving auto update on if your going to hard reset and unplug the console every single time. There's no need for you to hard reset your Xbox when turning it off, just press it, don't hold it. I'm sure that's essentially the same as holding down the power on your PC and force shutting it down.

For your question, I'm not sure. I dont remove the power from the outlet.
