just watched the video. Notice the accelerator meter does not drop on gear changes. Is this the clutch cheat in action?

I think you are right - NO SHIFT DOES HE LOOSE ACCELERATION/SPEED. I know when I shift on my DFGT or DS3 the brake indicator flashes full red for a split second and all acceleration is off while I shift. He IS shift cheating.

I ran a 1.16.5 on Eiger, I sure bet I could brake into the 1.15s if I wasn't loosing 0.1 second on EVERY SHIFT.

GT5 needs to fix these unsupported wheels - G25/27 and whatever this new Porche on the guy claims he has. Time is bogus.

everytime i go online. i tell myself:

i have not memorized the track
i have not tuned my car
i dont have a good wheel setup

stop repeating me:guilty:

speedgear
i see a lot of good drivers on line , sometimes i can follow them , sometimes no , but still my friends say that im also a good driver and i have one huge handicap , i have my right arm paralized , but still i use dfgt manual shift , ff at 8 all aids off except abs-1.

Paddle or the knob?

. I think people confuse these top guys as having no life, or they practice forever or won't be good in real life but that is usually the opposite. They have a lot of talent and a lot of raw speed and most likely spend little time to get top times compared to us slower people.

No-one gets really good at anything without effort and practice, some progress faster than others but all have to work hard at it, it would be nice to think that wasn’t the case but it is. That’s a lesson for life in general not just this game.

What is true though is that those who are really good try to look as if there not trying, mind games work wonders, you already written yourself off, you “slower driver”. I guess that might be because you feel you feel you are trying really hard yet don’t get near people who are making it look easy.

Kimi Raikkonen is a less subtle example of someone who likes people to think he not trying when people who know him have said he works at it really hard and is highly dedicated.

Oh, if only success could come without effort or self-doubt :(

That was a great video, he is like 1 min faster then me. Seems that he's using some sort of technique to instantly get them into the correct slip angle for every turn. The tires are not even going red and it seems to be drifting every corner.

I've heard that some people, specially those who don't drive in real life don't have there brain wired like those that do. We sense and feel motion visually and with sound more then they do and this lack of sense allows them to drive like this. To them its a game and mastering the flick is what you need to do, for me I drive in the game like how I would on the track in real life.

I was a better video game driver before hundreds of thousands of boring real miles and car wrecks and consequences affected my false sense of reality.

one thing i have noticed watching some youtube videos is that the fast drivers anticipate the corner and get their car in position; instead of reacting to the corner. they think ahead and use weight transfer more correctly.

i notice this is more important with comfort/sports tires. racing tires are more forgiving and can mask a lot of mistakes. but with the lower grip tires, you really need to think at least 1 corner ahead.

i remember reading that ayrton senna used to think 1 lap ahead.

I usually think of the 'Alien' (they must be Professional) drivers as people who spend a lot of time playing GT5; and less time working, spending time with family, or socializing. :)

I know a few "Alien" fast drivers & some of them have full time jobs, they're just naturally talented imo. I bought a race tutorial book & spent ages studying it & applying it to the 2010 GT Academy demo & while I did get a little faster, I still only managed to finish 58th in the UK & 1 second off P1, I've not got that extra thing whatever it is regardless of how much time I put in.

I have beaten these guys on a handful of occassions under exceptional circumstances, but I usually get my head handed to me on a plate! It's always a pleasure to be tested against the fastest & cleanest guys out there.

Hi powell, i´m the one who made the 1.15,468 lap with the Alfa on Eiger.

I also noticed there is no red flash while shifting up but this is a replay bug. 👎

You can test it by your own start the challenge do some normal upshifts and watch the replay. You won´t see the red shifting light.
It doesn´t matter if you use wheel or controller, you can see the same in this video:

I´m driving the Fanatec GTR3 RS Wheel but i never used any automatik clutch system and didn´t use normal clutch on this lap, only pedal shifters.

Btw. i´m still holding 2 Online-World-Records on Eiger in GT5P so i know how to get fast around there ;)

The original replay if somebody want´s to watch.

I know from personal experience that Zocker is an amazingly fast and clean driver. I don't doubt his time at all.

I can't take those first few turns in 2nd gear, I only turn enough in 1st... I'm using a wheel and obviously doing some wrong :scared:
I don't know how you drive like that on Eiger but it's damn impressive! Thanks for posting the video.

Thats what ussually my friends tell me when they see me playing... I´m a modest guy, but its true. Seriously, when someone looks at you in disbelief and tells you: "you make it look easy," you know you´re good.

Haha WTF? Your obviously not modest if you tell people your modest.

"Oh yeah. I'm easily the most modest person here. That's one of my many good qualities."

Well Sebastian Loeb is also very fast in these challenges. I think his times are many seconds faster than Gold time. That guy who did this time got into GT Academy too but got kicked out due to not attending a media interview session I think.

I think if he is 1 minute faster than you, then you are just slow as you will be 42 seconds slower than me and 35 seconds slower than Bronze. I think people confuse these top guys as having no life, or they practice forever or won't be good in real life but that is usually the opposite. They have a lot of talent and a lot of raw speed and most likely spend little time to get top times compared to us slower people.

I don't think that's true and is frankly insulting to a lot of professionals. What you said is the whole "great racers aren't made, they're born" when in fact it's just the opposite. Sure there are people who have a natural talent for driving a car, but that being said that brings you only so far. To get to the level of a professional driver you have to put in hours and hours of work. A good rule of thumb for professionals in anything is that they had to put in about 10,000 hours of hard work before turning professional. Now this isn't set in stone, but it gives you an idea of why these guys are so far beyond us, they've worked hard for it and to say otherwise, like i said earlier, is insulting to their hard work.

EDIT:
What is this clutch cheating i hear about by the way? I have a g27 and have never experienced it.

I think it is not question of them looking like they are not trying; it is a fact of the matter that they could pull out much faster times consistently than most of our best times (Online races, the fast guys and also the cheaters are more evident). The top guys spend a lot of time beating records either marginally faster than their own or a bit faster than the competition. It is not really mind games for me, when I look at GT5P top times in leaderboards, I think to myself no way can I do that time. I think talent and skill is the difference, effort can only get you so far when the top guys generally have a high level of effort and high levels of talent.

With effort I can within a few hours practice I can get into top 250 and few hours later I may get into to top 100 but the problem is the top 10 times are generally way faster than the other times. I think my best ranking on GT5P is Top 50 around London in the F2007 and that was a bit of a scruffy lap, I could probably get into top 30 but anymore it would take ridiculous amounts of time to get close, and will require me to learn how to really drive fast learning a lot more techniques. Even doing all this, I think it will be hard to achieve top 10 times let alone number 1. I prefer to do as I do now, say after 5-10 hours total time trialling and call it a day if I get in the Top 100 or higher in desirable car and track combinations. Hope tomorrows update includes leaderboards. Will be a good surprise if they do add it.

Aboyt Kimi, I think it’s more to do with his personality, he admits he is a bit lazy and Ron agreed with that statement. He is also generally quiet when with racing teams and has a monotone voice in interviews which gives the impression that he is not trying.

Vettel I think is a guy who tries and passes of that he is not trying much, you can see that in the interviews.

No doubt that they put in a lot of time before but once you get to that level, to get top times for most of us, for them is driving the track at a reasonable pace. That is wwhy they are known as "Aliens" by some. I was also mainly talking about the top guys in sim racing, I'm not insulting them, praising them as I see a lot of haters saying they have no life to do the times they do. They most likely put in a lot of effort to beat records but to beat the average quick GT player, they will require a lot less effort due to the amount of skill they have developed over the years complemented with a lot of talent.

That's your problem. You think that a few hours is a sufficient amount of time to try to match the best. Those guys have spent way more time than you have driving, they know how to react better, they have better reflexes, they are in short in another league because they are more dedicated. People can say they have no lives, but if they're passionate about racing and are using this as a learning tool i see it as no different than someone who would train with a real car. The fact of the matter is that if you put in the time to learn better technique and everything you could be just as fast. The professionals are nothing special, they are just people. Even Schumacher at one point was a worse driver than most on here.

EDIT:
Also when i said that you were insulting them by saying that it's all natural talent, that's because you're squandering all the hard work that they've done up to that point. I know if i was a professional i may not want to make it clear how hard i worked to get up to that point, but if someone insinuated that i didn't work hard to get to where i was and i was just riding on my talent, i would be greatly offended. I feel it's the same even if it's a videogame, they've put a lot of hard work into those times.

I do know what you guys mean, I dont have the time really to put into GT much lately when there are actually good racers online. but I try :)

I remember racing my brother on Forza 2 a while back and he is no slouch on racing games, he was following me (naturally :sly: ) and just said in amazement and the end of the race "I just dont understand how you keep the car on the track at those speeds" I turned to him and said... "its a talent, actually its because im sad and know how the cars handle"

it really is about pushing your boundaries, thankfully in games you can do this without risk to yourself :) thats the key guys get out there and pin it, really if you think maybe I can take that corner faster then take it faster :D you'll often be surprised at how fast you can go around some corners with the right placement.

I know they spend a lot of time and hard work to get to the level they have got. I even said it in my post. I am saying once you are at that level , you can try less to say get into the top 100. However for them they spend just as long or even longer than the time it takes most of us to get in the top 100 as for them to get into top 5.

I don't personally agree on you that I or anyone could be just as fast as the top guys if we put similar levels of effort from the start. If that is the case then why is it some F1 drivers are faster than others, getting into F1 requires a lot of effort but I think talent becomes crucial here. I am a realist in what I can achieve and I doubt I will ever get a 1st place ranking even if I try day and night for weeks. I doubt most people on here were better than Schumacher but that logic would only work when he was a baby.

For an analogy of what i mean there was this one guy who i knew who was a phenomenal artist. I later found out that he was worse than i was at one point, but he kept working at it. Hard work and determination can do wonders, and i think that honestly anyone can get to their level and speed, but it all depends on your drive.

I said before some people have a sort of talent for it, so it comes easier to them. That being said their natural talent won't take them leaps and bounds above the rest. The only reason those guys are there is because of their hard work and realizing what to change to get faster.

If you do max out your speed and you're not as fast as them, you're ignoring something or you aren't driven enough, which isn't a bad thing. I'm a realist too in that i know i'll never be up there, but not due to lack of a "special something" but due to the fact that i'm just not driven enough to get up there and i don't have the time to devote to it.

Racing is like anything else, the top guys are there for a reason, they aren't naturally talented, they just have time to devote to it and can realize what they're doing wrong or have someone to help them realize what they're doing wrong, that is honestly the main reason most of us are slow, we reach our current limit and say "no matter what i do i can't pass it, those guys must have a certain something about them" which is really just us making excuses for ourselves because we can't figure it out, and like i said that makes us not give credit where credit is due.
