So, like, yeah. We're going to Germany in April for about a week and I need to come up with a few things to do. We're going to be around Berlin, Frankfurt and Stuttgart, but we could take a day trip off to another city.

So, any car related, or generally interesting/cool reccomdations of things to do would be awesome.

Thanks.

Since you have Stuttgart listed, I assume you already plan to go to the Mercedes-Benz museum.
There is also the BMW museum in Munich.
Aside from those, there are numerous Biergartens throughout Germany.....:sly:

Go bahn-burn, if that is a verb. I guess you could arrange a pretty good tour of Berlin; they have some pretty cool stuff there.

Yep, we're going to do either that or Porsche.

I don't know if we'll get to Munich, but we'll stop by if we have time.

No doubt.

Yeah, we'll also be doing the whole history/architecture thing.

Bring a nice big book translating German Highway signs.

You'll need it and a nice guide to the Autobahn given you take it. It goes near Munich anyways.

Hofbräuhaus in Munich for the most awesome beer. I was there for its 100-year anniversary. :)

Make sure you order some kind of chicken in Germany. Make sure you pronounce it right, otherwise you may be ordering a cooked dog...

Otherwise, my bases have pretty much been covered. As an insane VW guy, a visit to Der Autostadt is a must (that would be in Wolfsburg, Nidersachsen). It has everything Vee-Dub, as well as a bunch of stuff dedicated to Audi, Bugatti, etc. If I recall correctly, there is a huge "playground" of sorts for the cars to go out and play on, particularly for the off-roaders. Plus there is that huge column of cars, used as a kind of storage elevator to give the customers their new cars on arrival. I forget what it is called...

Anyway, The Autostadt is a must-see!

For the Nürburgring, I recommend taking the train into Koblenz (beautiful area if you have the time to poke around), renting a car, and then driving to the track yourself. It's pretty easy to get there -- just take the A48 west, then get off at the Mayen exit, find B258, and follow that for the rest of the way. You'll know you're heading in the right direction 'cause there'll be signs saying "Nürburgring this way" or something to that effect. :)

These are the days and times where you can drive on the track yourself, so if you're planning on doing that, schedule your day trip accordingly:

However, there's more to do there then just that. The museum is pretty neat, and you can hike up to the castle, too. Also, even if the only day and time you can make it is when the track is closed to the public, that means that you could go to one of the several spectator points and watch the group/organization that reserved the track.

When my dad and I went, the car rental, trip, and lap tickets combined cost less than the price of an M5 taxi ride, so I definitely recommend the do-it-yourself approach, even if it is slower and more risky.

It's already on the list

Let me know when you're going to be at the 'ring exactly and I'll be there. You could be the first GTP member I meet, if you're interested ofcourse. :)
- and Josh if he's interested as well!

But not the first week. I'll be in Austria the first week of April.

I'm going to Ramstein Germany this Friday for 10 days - should be fun. I'll try to report back if I find anything neat to do over there while we're there.

That loks awesome, I'll see if we can hit it.

Thanks for the great info, Wolfe. My mom might go with us if she can hike.

That probably won't happen. (It's one of those family trips, no offense to you.)

That'd be great. 👍

I too may be visiting Deutschland soon.

I think there's a Porsche museum in Stuttgart. Don't quote me on that, though, and I've no idea how good it is. Jon @ accel has been to it, so it might be a good idea to ask him.

I can vouch for the MB museum in Stuttgart being worth a visit, its also in the same building as MB's flagship dealership (with a very large AMG section), here's a few pictures I took on my visit last week...

...if you are after something non-automotive and like football, the stadium at Stuttgart is also worth a visit as well.

As far as Porsche go, the museum is in Zuffenhausen, which is about 5 miles outside Stuttgart...

..I've never been (I was in Stuttgart with DaimlerChrysler so it was always going to be an unlikely visit), but it does look impressive.

...Maybe while in Germany, assuming you visit Wolfsburg in Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony), you should see an ice-hockey game played by the The Wolfsburg Grizzly Adams. Yes, that is their team name. I don't joke around here.
