Hey all,

I posted this in it's own thread, but a mod rightly pointed out to me that there was already a thread about this subject, so I'll throw it in here :)

Before I continue let me say that I've been a GT enthusiast since GT2, and have been enjoying GT5 a lot since it was released. However, the GT series has also always baffled me by making so many obvious, to me, mistakes. By leaving out stuff that would be so easy to put in and would improve it dramatically. It's never stopped me from loving the game, and it hasn't now, but I do experience this more than ever in GT5.

1. Licenses/levels:

This I would significantly change. First, I'd lose the levels completely. Then, I'd revert back to licenses to open up races. I'd do this with a twist though.

Basically, any car can be bought at any time, and driven in practice or arcade mode. However, to be allowed to race it in A-spec races, you'd need the appropriate license. This means you wouldn't need licenses to enter a race, but it's possible to need a license to use the car you need to enter the race... (hope you're still with me ).

In addition to the types of licenses we already have, I'd add licenses for specific race-classes (DTM, Nascar, WRC, etc.)

2. A-Spec races:

Another area where I'd change quite a lot. Most importantly, I'd add way more different races. Basically, at any level (beginner, intermediate, etc.) I'd add a number of "standard" races: FF, FR, MR, 4WD, Turbo, Euro, US, Japan. Besides those, there would be more specific-rule races, like there are now, but more. Waaaay more.

I'd add more rules to most races, much like in the current seasonal events. (Power limits, weight limits, tire limits, assist limits, tune limits).

And, very important, I'd add qualifying. Even on a 3 lap race? Yes! Especially on a 3 lap race. Imo, one of the most unrealistic things in GT(5) is the fact that it's considered "normal" to overtake around 7 supposedly competitive opponents in 3 laps...

I'd also make more of the races championships (saveable ones, mind).

All this would, apart from offering simply way more races to participate in, allow for more competitive racing.

Imagine a championship over 5 races, 5 laps per race, all cars at least 1300kg, max 400 bhp, FR, sports soft, tuning "level" 2 -I'll get to that in a sec- and 3 qualifying laps allowed for each race. I'd say that would allow for some quite exciting racing.

3. Tuning:

I like tuning my cars in GT5. The system works quite well. It could be better though. First of all, I'd remove options like ABS, ASM and TC from any car that doesn't normally have it, and add the option to put it on in the tuning system.

Also, I'd make different setups saveable (like we had before... puzzling why that's gone).

And, I'd put in brake upgrades.

Actual branded tuning parts would also be very nice, and would also allow for complete tuning packages (the way tuners like Mansory sell them).

I'd also like to see some more variation in what tuning can be done on different cars, it's a bit "slap on the standard set of upgrades" now. The limitations that are there (like no turbo for some cars) seem a bit weird though.

4. Car line-up:

I'm not too upset by the standard/premium issue (more premium is better though, obviously). I'm not even too concerned about having dozens of skylines. I do think more "great" cars should be in there... older BMW M3's, more AMG's, Koeniggseg, Gumpert, more Aston Martin's just to name a few...) Some Daihatsu's could be sacrificed

Anyway, I could go on for ever probably, about visual tuning and damage models and custom A-spec races and career-challenges and and and... but most likely I'm already boring you all to death, so I'll end it here... Please reply with your own vision of an improved GT5 and/or your comments on mine!

Well said, I agree on everything really :)

I like the idea of not having driving aids on cars that wouldn't have had them but could be fitted. I try to drive my older cars witout ABS at times when the races aren't too difficult.

I would love to see the following tracks on GT5

Midfield
Test Track
Complex String

It would be class if they were to add VW's test ground with that class 13mile long straight, as seen when Captain Slow took the Bugatti Veyron Supersport to 268mph

Abandoned Multi-storey car park with spiral ramps and the ability to chuck your cars about inside it.

When you lap a car - make it change colour on the mini map. So its easier to tell where 2nd place is in relation to you.

I've had that very same thought. It is aggravating not knowing which are the lapped cars. Lapped cars should appear yellow or some other color.

Another feature that I would like to see is... I'd like to see stats on races that I've won, which car I used, setup, etc. I never remember what car I used or my setup unless I write it down. It would be nice if you could view your trophies.

This list is all over the place from down right impossible to just simple suggestions... Its turned into a wish list for a sequel it seems...

We should break it into categories, weather/night/day on all tracks is easy to suggest but technically not easy at all... this is why they are whole different tracks...

Things like more A and B spec events, multiple tune files for each car, better rewards, adjustments to exp all seem more practical.

Personally I would like to know what GT5's new mission statement is and how they define done relative to GT5... and a list of features would be great but this would border on the releasing an incomplete game argument unless worded carefully...

Hmmm....how about removing B-Spec, replacing it without something a bit less infuriating and fire the person/persons who thought it was a good idea. Seriously, PD have made such a big cockup with B-Spec somebody needs to get the sack.

Oh yes, also remove the gay levelling up crap, it's not Final Fantasy ffs PD.

Actually, if the "Gift" feature was changed to "Sell to Friend" then it would eliminate the problem with the birthday exploits and people getting ripped off from bad transactions. Of course the sell price would need to be predefined as a used vehicle. Then, it would also be nice if modification affect the sale price.

"Share with Friend" would be better if it actually allowed you to share it.

Everything is in place for an awesome Go Kart championship in ASpec mode. Use the course editor to generate tracks, either have these repeating each time or have them be random each time the event starts.

So you could go into ASpec mode, and do a Go Kart championship for xp and credits, and the tracks will always be different. Why isn't this option here already? Each tier, beginner, expert etc would have a championship from the random generator so expert would be harder tracks etc.

I want more go karting in the game where I can earn xp n credits at the same time! Having won the go kart special events ages ago I havent been karting since and they are some of the most fun in this game! Everything is already in the game to make this happen, it just needs to be brought together. I feel this would be very easy to implement!

Same thing could be done with Rally races, just cut and paste the Rally races from the special events over to ASpec mode so that we can go rallying for xp/credits!

The one little thing that would go a long ways for me (if you're reading PD) would be to add custom tags to the garage view. The tags for custom tabs could visible on the right-side of the garage view as opposed to the standard game tabs on the left-side menu to browse. I'd love to be able to filter my cars between "Tuned", "WIP (Work in Progress", "Stock" etc. The simple pleasures in life you know :/

My idea of KERS - Kinetic Energy Recovery System is for any kind of cars in GT5 simply because last year in formula 1 it was used as an option wether the teams wanted to use it but was outlawed by the FIA for this 2010 season also next year for 2011 F1 season teams are again going to be able to choose between using KERS. (teams began testing the system in 2008)
Most cars are able to use or have this

GT3 R in the GT3 cup division in the FIA uses a similar system to KERS system.
The Ferrari 599 HY KERS has a similar system but on a Ferrari roadcar
Jaguar starts testing KERS f1 system on roadcars too http://m.wired.com/autopia/2010/10/flywheel-hybrid-system-for-premium-vehicles/

But there are disadvantages and advantages of using KERS

A disadvantage is having an extra 35-50 kg on an F1 car which affects an F1 car hugely from start to end and on other cars the KERS is for sure much heavier around 90-110 kg like the Ferrari 599 HY KERS it weighs about a hundred kilograms heavier than the stock 599 GTB

Ferrari in formula 1 for example in 2009 had hardships throughout the season because of their KERS system which is an aspect of why they did not rise at the top in 2009.

The advantage is simple you get to use the wasted kinetic energy under braking for an extra 81 hp (60 kW; 82 PS) for 6.6 seconds on average per lap.
I know people have problems on overtaking because they cant get past the car because they are almost always equal at most of the time.

A KERS energy bar beside the fuel bar works as an energy load on the system so the driver knows how much he has also if its not full bar then it wont work for a full 6 second duration. Its simple in percentage if its a 100% load then its 6.6 seconds if its 50% load then its 3.3 seconds if its 10% load then its .66 seconds. With a simple key bind on the controller or the wheel set on the option setting in GT5 menu with a press of a button you gain the energy.

This is simply to make a better racing experience, more strategical and more open options for drivers.

Facts about KERS

What is KERS?
The acronym KERS stands for Kinetic Energy Recovery System. The device recovers the kinetic energy that is present in the waste heat created by the car’s braking process. It stores that energy and converts it into power that can be called upon to boost acceleration.

How does it work?
There are principally two types of system - battery (electrical) and flywheel (mechanical). Electrical systems use a motor-generator incorporated in the car’s transmission which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy and vice versa. Once the energy has been harnessed, it is stored in a battery and released when required.

Mechanical systems capture braking energy and use it to turn a small flywheel which can spin at up to 80,000 rpm. When extra power is required, the flywheel is connected to the car’s rear wheels. In contrast to an electrical KERS, the mechanical energy doesn’t change state and is therefore more efficient.

There is one other option available - hydraulic KERS, where braking energy is used to accumulate hydraulic pressure which is then sent to the wheels when required.

Do the regulations place limitations on the use of KERS?
Currently the regulations permit the systems to convey a maximum of 60kw (approximately 80bhp), while the storage capacity is limited to 400 kilojoules. This means that the 80bhp is available for anything up to 6.67s per laps, which can be released either all in one go, or at different points around the circuit. Lap time benefits range from approximately 0.1 to 0.4s.

How is the stored energy released by the driver?
The regulations stipulate that the release must be completely under the driver’s control. There is a boost button on the steering wheel which can be pressed by the driver.

Why was KERS introduced?
The aims are twofold. Firstly to promote the development of environmentally friendly and road car-relevant technologies in Formula One racing; and secondly to aid overtaking. A chasing driver can use his boost button to help him pass the car in front, while the leading driver can use his boost button to escape. In line with the regulations, there are limits on the device’s use and therefore tactics - when and where to use the KERS energy - come into play.

Is a car running KERS heavier than one which is not running the system?
No. A typical KERS system weighs around 35 kilograms. Formula One cars must weigh at least 620kg (including the driver), but traditionally teams build the car to be considerably lighter and then use up 70kg of ballast to bring it up to weight. This means that teams with KERS have less ballast to move around the car and hence have less freedom to vary their car’s weight distribution. Heavier drivers are at a particular disadvantage, an issue addressed by the raising of the minimum car weight for the 2011 season.

Do teams have to use it?
The use of KERS is not compulsory. Several teams used it during its introductory 2009 season. A gentlemen's agreement between constructors then precluded its use in 2010, before its return in 2011.

I appreciate you reading this I hope this gets approved for future updates

Thank you!

I think that as you progress through GT-Mode and your level increases all the cars of your level should get unlocked in Arcade Mode.

This system would be roughly equivalent to Need for Speed Shift. (I am not sure if this happens in Forza 3 since I have not played it, could somebody enlighten me?)

The game should reward your level (driving skill) increases and allow you to drive stock cars (in my opinion much more fun than tuned cars) with any tire choice and in any factory color in Arcade mode. By tying the cars available with your level you will have incentive to progress in GT-Mode.

I get highly ticked off doing the licence events seeing the ghost in my rear view mirror when chasing 0.002 seconds to get Gold only to find that in fact the ghost should have been in front of me. Makes me use lots of loud and rude language as the higher licences are hard enough when all you have is a silly 6 axis.
On the subject of which, if anyone knows anyone in ireland that wants to offload a decent wheel and pedal set to make way for the new thrustmaster, please let me know.

I would love to see a Europe option when sorting the garage as I mostly now use the Extreme Euro Rome race for getting money/Exp. It is a pain selecting the countries one by one to decide which car I want to use.

I would like to see a option to save the game between championship races because the formula gt race took me ages :( and a save during endurance races (whilst in pits) would make my life a bit easier so i don't have to race at half five in the morning half asleep trying to do these last races :(

Stars at night on the nurb and le mans, also the ability to delete single times on time trial. You only get 10 saved and if you're testing a fast car and change the setup 9 times youve lost all your other times

Be able to sort cars by number of wins.

Be able to sort cars by Power to Weight Ratio

Be able to use the right analogue stick to turn the camera angle about.

1. They need to work out a compromise where you can actually see all of the gauges/dash at all angles of sunlight because the shadows can sometimes black out the cockpit.

2. On some stages such as Mazda Raceway they outright need to figure out a way to get better textures for the grass in there. It looks horrible.

3. Add new tracks.

4. Convert as many iconic standards to premiums as possible.

5. Further optimize engine to minimize pixelation from smoke and flickering shadows.

6. Make it so that you can zoom in closer in third person. The sense of speed sucks from this position and bringing the cam in closer would work wonders.
7. Either take out the generic placeholders for people or remove them entirely. Some of the people on some tracks actually are acceptable though.
8. Make the AI more responsive and humanlike.
9. Make sounds from different views interchangeable.
10. Never rest on the laurels of past accomplishments.

Be able to start a race on the amount of fuel you want to. Rather than always having full tanks (I'm sure I don't need 100 litres for a 3 lap race).

Have not really posted much of anything regarding GT5 since it has been released. Been busy playing the game and reading these forums. First couple of weeks had issues with PS3 finally had to settle on a new PS3 slim.

GT5 is great on a lot of levels, visual, physics, sound etc.

However as most of us have found there are so many things that are also hard to believe and get used to. The simulation world mode is perhaps the worst out of all the GT games in so many ways. The level system, winning mainly only standard cars, not being able to win a car for repeating the race, lack of ability to sell cars. The overall small scale of the simulation mode compared to the number of cars in the game. The used car lot system is bad. Not being able to preview paint jobs (come on!). Wheel selection is not very good, not being able to change wheels on standard cars. It is also hard to believe that there are so few cars that can be race modified. Lag time between menus etc. also is not very good. What's up with not being able to give are "B"-spec driver a name that we want (fairly lame is what).

It always amazes me that the things that I mention above are somehow not really given a lot of thought/tested or whatever. I just want GT to be all that it can be and more. They have all or most of the components. With so many cars and a decent parts/tuning system it should be easy to create a very in depth GT world mode. One that is progressive and makes you want to do the next event or events that are well designed that have you coming back to run them time and time again because you can not resist.

I love Gran Turismo and it is just about the only PS3 game that I play.

Regardless I will enjoy the GT5 as much or more than any of the previous versions. Just want it to be the best series that it can be. At least it is fairly open play and with online there should be a good life cycle for the 5th installment. I do think though that in the months and years to come that we as a collective fan of the GT series should put together our version of a simulation GT world mode based on just the elements that already exist in the game.

I dont like that all used cars are standards. Would be cool if special cars popped up in dealerships sometimes. Please fix the interlacing problem with the scrolling text ( while waiting for the track to load, the opponents scroll across the screen. most of the time the scrolling glitches, then it is blurry because it swithches to an interlaced format. This has been around since GT4 ) Then again, they claimed it would not do it in GT4 if you used progressive scan, but I tried it and it does it anyway. Thankfully it usually only happens during loading screens and replays. Usually.
BTW the prize cars stink. AND what happened to all the wheels?
