What I like:
- PD *is* listening to us
- tons of improvements so far
- if I was stuck in a bomb shelter for a year this would be the best racing game to take with me.
Now my complaints:
Things that make me go back to Richard Burns Rally instead for Rally:
- GT5 hasn't a single 'real' rally course.... ie RBR, Dirt3 .... Dirt Tracks that go in a circle aren't rally stages....
Reasons why I play iRacing instead of GT5 online.
- Lag (GT5 has no dedicated servers support) host/peer to peer whatever you want to call it will always lag and never be fair, there should be a way to host Servers from a 3rd party computer/windows PC
Things that make me envious of Forza 4 (i don't own an xbox)
- No reasonably priced car..... Forza has all of them
- Some places to drive other than race tracks - driving isn't only about race tracks...wtf?
Things that make me shake my head... and why I don't take GT5 seriously as a simulator
- First of all: There is no non-track driving in GT5 there is only racing, calling this a driving simulator is quite funny since all you can drive on is race tracks - this game has a personality complex ..... German Truck Simulator is a driving simulator, Simuride is a driving simulator. Driving simulators teach you to drive a car and the rules of the road and the consequences of not doing that... GT5 does not. If this was a driving simulator you'd be able to practice driving in snow with rubber tires - why can't you? because its a racing game - studded tires are for racing.....
- There is way too much hand holding for this to be a simulator - Simulators typically represent the real world and real world consequences, GT5 does not. Examples:
a) you can't drive in or out of the pits, you don't learn to merge into traffic from the pits... 'safe driving is a requirement on a race track'
b) very minimal damage from collisions .... doesn't really instill any fear of accidents that would total a car or even be fatal in the real world...
c) collisions themselves don't hold up to the exceptional physics of the actual driving - very un-realistic crash impacts and results....
d) Invisible walls and barriers .. especially bad on top gear test track and all of the rally stages.... see Richard Burns Rally for learning what happens when you go off the road - in GT5 you can't.
Biggest Complaint / Wish Right Now?
- Fair Racing .... trying to find a fair race where my skill is the determining factor is like trying to find a needle in a haystack while online. This is because tuning is the huge emphasis in this game, nobody uses non-tuned cars and shuffle just doesn't cut it for a fair result. Even with the new options server hosts are having to do a hell of alot of work to get everyone on the same page, tuned the same etc... its just ridiculous. This is the biggest reason I play GT5 99 percent of the time by myself running time trials instead of wasting my time trolling servers ..... this and the lag issues are why I only ever get any serious online racing in iRacing.
