I get a PS3 in a few weeks(I know I said I had one, but I really just borrowed one from a friend), plus GT5 with it. Forza has run out of cars that make it interesting, no neew tracks, and plus, GT5 has teh Rally. one thing I have to ask: what are the ups and downs? can I make a Ferrari into a rally car? any SUVs? also, have the Kei-cars kept up?

There are a couple of SUVs. I just picked an Infiniti FX45 from the UCD. There's a Honda Element, Pontiac Vibe, and some others I can't name off the top of my head.

I think everyone agrees that the physics are great. I'm not going to get into much detail about the ups and downs, but I'm sure others have a lot to say.

1000+ cars, 70 tracks (some with weather), beautiful graphics, realistic driving simulator.

Unfortunately, only 200 out of 1000 cars have superior graphics (the other 800 are PS2 models , but supposedly they will upgrade them or some in the future). You have to dedicate a massive amount of time into the game if you wish to achieve 100% competition.

And sorry for the long hyperlinks, I'm on the GTPlanet iPad app, and I don't remember the code for inserting hyperlinks. Which reminds me... awesome Gran Turismo community.

Oh and no you can not make a Ferrari into a rally car. I guess you could put dirt tires on it but it still would not be 4WD. While GT5 does have some rally races the only games that are mostly rally would be DiRT 2 (currently out) or DiRT 3 (out in March I believe). I will be picking up DiRT 3 at launch.

Get in to the livery editor in Forza. Provides months of longevity to the game. Plus online racing is more in depth and better organised.

GT5 is dead after 2 months.

First off, there are not 70 tracks. There are twenty something tracks with variations that equal 70 different layout. As far as pro can cons. There are a couple out there that will give you both scenarios. I too will not go into detail. It will take me quite awhile.

Here are a couple:

IMHO, GT on its Nov 24th release date is far from its expectations that everyone was hoping for. Even with the patches and updates, it has only gained a few positive points.

Microsoft charges online fees, no blu-ray. Forza vs GT5 is kinda a subjective question, but most still siding with GT5 as top dog for now. (Though PD behaves strangely alot) I'm looking forward to shift2 and dirt3 which will be on both systems. Also: unless you have $400 for a good wheel, stick with PS3. The PS3 has less expensive options.

It's a fun game, and PD just keep upgrading multiplayer. I would suggest doing Aspec up to about level 24, keep doing the seasonals and just use it for its (free!) online. You can do randomly generated rally tracks now online (pretty sure) and there are quite a few kei cars, including several premium models and many, many standard ones. There are some "suv's," but mostly they're concept larger crossovers and I believe they're all standard.

The physics are good and with aids off it is a challenging but rewarding when driven correctly driving model. With aids on, most people should be able to pick it up and drive reasonably well with a controller. People are quick to downplay GT5, but in reality it is a very solid racing game with good online and a short lived single player experience.

The premium models are likely the best looking car models out of any simulator. Physics are correct and the tracks (my favorite is Nurb) are all well modeled and the tracks themselves are probably as close to reality as a PS3 game could get, especially in the physics.

GT5 at release was sorely incomplete. But it is now as it should have been those months ago and is getting better as Kaz inserts more and more things to do as well as strengthening multiplayer. I enjoy it. If you like cars and online racing, you probably should too.

Lol @ livery editor making a game. :dopey:
Online for gt5 is simple and easy if you ask me
so you can pretty much ignore everything Mubble said . Thats all opinion.

How ever if you do get gt5 your gonna find your self thinking." what in the world were they thinking " alot.
But overall you will love it and will find yourself driving a around a track for 30mins+ by yourself because of the authenticity of how the cars and track feels and look and sound.
Thats way funner than livery editor in my opinion of course.

I sold my 360 and Forza to get my PS3 and GT5. I like my PS3 better, but I think Forza is the better overall game. Driving solo in GT5 is pretty sweet, and the ring is much better, but nearly everything else in GT is less finished feeling, and not as good as Forza in my opinion.

It doesn't "make the game" but it's a huge addition. A huge number of cars on the GT list are just duplicates with different liveries. Secondly, when forming online leagues like spec miatas or something, you can have everyone in an individually designed and numbered car. This looks much better and makes the races feel better to many people.

And we can ignore everything you said, because it's all opinion? The OP asked for opinions. Unless you have some sort of objective measurement that we don't know about, you just give opinions too. What unit are you measuring the "goodness" of each game, the ease of online play?

In forza you can set up an online race with only RWD four cylinder engined cars. That is more in-depth than what is possible in GT. You can set up a race with only SuperGT or LMS race cars, etc.

True.
But im saying he was saying dont get GT5 because Forza has Livery editor. As if the livery editor makes the game

He did ?
He said up and downs.
Not downs and downs lol
And I wasnt saying ignore what he said because its opinion I was saying what I said is all my opinion ( the online being easy )
I guess I shouldve worded that differently

If you come here from ANY other decent racing franchise, you are going to start thinking that GT players are mostly fanboys. Other than the physics, and a superb Nürbergring, there's hardly a thing in the game that most others don't better.

But play it anyway. It will SURE make you appreciate FM4 when it comes out (or maybe even Shift 2) even more!

I was an avid Forza racer since Forza 1. I was 9 month into Forza 3 when I traded everything for a PS3 and this game, GT5. Each have their ups, each have their downs, but I wouldn't say that one is superior.

People talk about GT5's physics and yes, in it's finest moment, it has better physics than Forza, but lap to lap, race after race, the physics are very comparable from what I remember.

GT5 generally doesn't feel very user friendly or very well thought out, as to where Forza is VERY well thought out. You may not think so, but when you buy a game that has "1,000" cars and only 200 of them are actually capable of using all the games features, and the other 800 are not even available to purchase when you need them in career mode, because putting all of the cars in one dealership would just be... to.... easy.

Stupid BS like that holds this game back. 80% of the cars in game look like leftover crap from a PS2 game, you know? It's like "WTF????"

In PD's defense, the updates to the game have carried epic changes so far and it only gets better from here.

Definitely get GT5, but don't get rid of your xbox like I did. Forza 4 will be here soon and I think it's gonna be pretty snazzy.

I think you can drive any car you want on the rally courses but not sure you can fit dirt tyres to non-rally cars, I will try later and report back if no-one confirms.

Oh and if you want realism, the only Ferrari rally cars that ever existed were in Group B in the 1980s, a couple of variations of the 308 and the 288 GTO, though not sure the latter ever competed. Neither of these is in GT5 though (I really hope to see the 288GTO as DLC one day)

There are a handful of cars that you can't buy rally tires (dirt or snow) for, and you can't get onto a dirt or snow track without those tires. I'd say "most" of the street cars allow the use of off-road tires though.

I think Forza 3 overall is a much better game and a lot more fun than GT5. As I said in another thread, it gets everything right that GT5 messed up on and I enjoy it much better than GT5 after giving up on it after two months.

Forza's carrer mode is a lot better than GT5s. GT5 has far less events than FM3, and even previous GTs for that matter. The awful level system encourages grinding to progress and even restricts you from what cars you're allowed to drive.

IMO, Forza's car list is more balanced and better than GT5's. GT5 may have 1000 cars, but a lot of those are just unnesscary duplicates of Japanese cars like Skylines, Miatas, RX-7s, etc. Not to mention 800 of those cars are rehashed from previous games and can't be used for some features like customization and photo travel. Forza's cars are all treated equally.

These are just some my main gripes with GT5, but there's more I would have liked to mention. GT5 is just filled with issues that make a lot of people go "WTF were they thinking?"

But I will say that GT5 is being improved through updates which seem to keep most people happy.

I personally got a Ps3 for gt5. I enjoy the game, like the game and do prefer it to forza. Although it's very close. But As many have mentioned only 200 superior looking cars isn't fantastic and some ridiculous decisions by PD have led it to be not what we were expecting. PD really doomed themselves by taking 5 years to make it. It made people expect too much for such a long time in development. I still think there is sooooo much more to come though. Kaz said something like weekly and monthly updates for the next 2 years. This game has been out for 3 months or so and already the early updates have been fantastic so it leads me to thinking gt5 is a lOng term project that will only get better

You're really going to have to dig around in these forums and others and find the threads that do most of the complaining. It's in these threads you'll get the REAL information. As with all forums if you read the "I LOVE YOU GT5" threads on a GT5 slanted forum guess what you'll get? You'll believe GT5 was designed and delivered by this guy...

Hello, It's LordEx with a delivery for a Mr. "Feral Pigeon"

Some of your complaints may or may not be handled by GT5.
Cars: If you don't mind NOT having cockpit views on all cars then you'll enjoy the 1000 cars. If you , like me, have to have cockpit view then you're down to 200 cars and of those 200 quite a few are just not worth the time they put in them. I don't mind the PD ports graphically of the 800 standard cars IF they had cockpits. You'll also find alot of the "racing" cars missing in premium status.

Tracks: As said before, 70 tracks is an exaggeration. Personally I find FM3's track selection more impressive as far as real world tracks go. Aside from the two NASCAR tracks and Laguna Seca there aren't any American tracks in the game. So you say "Ok , I guess it's all Asian then, I can live with that" but then you got tracks like Twin Motegi not in the game, yet you have all the SuperGT cars model as premium cars as if they were encouraging SuperGT racing. Just confusing.

The "ups and downs" have been well documented. But one thing that is almost in universal agreement is if you're into "racing" primarily then FM3 is the better choice. If you're into "driving" primarily then GT5 is the better choice.

Just thought Id add my 2 cents. From a bloke that owns and plays both Forza 3 and GT5, Forza 3 is the better 'pick up and play, introduce your mum to it' as such. Like if you got a mate round who doesn't really play racing games then Forza 3 is the best.
GT5 is more of a solo game for me that grows on you. At first you will think 'what's this all about' and you really need to invest time in the game to get the most from it. And if you are a serious driving enthusiast, a Logitech Force Feedback wheel (I saw one for 60 quid on google shopping) and GT5 are heaven.
I am not saying Forza 3 is easier or less 'real' than GT5, but it is definatley easier to get into and it is laid out in a more friendly fashion for those who aren't petrolheads or veterans in the GT series.
My real life example would be that I got GT5 for xmas and the disc hasn't left my PS3, because everytime I turn it on to play a game, I forget about all my other games when I see the GT5 disc pop out and I immediatley put in back in. I don't know why!

Saying all this, it is just opinion. And I am a massive fan of Gran Turismo. I love driving 1.6 Peugeots and stuff just as much as the ferraris, but the one thing that I feel everyone will agree with me on is that GT5 is not the kind of game you can rent out for 2 reasons:
1) You will not enjoy it as much as you would be able to unless u invest time and progress and
2) If you rent it you will incur a fortune in late charges cos you will not be able to remove it from your PS3 :D.

If you're into "driving" primarily then GT5 is the better choice.

No, if you are into driving, TDU2 is the better choice. If it's on a race track, it's racing... plain and simple.

GT5 chose to try and do BOTH things, and ended up doing neither 'best', IMO.

I agree and disagree with this. FM3 can be the better "pick up and play game" for the reason you can turn on all the assists to help people who aren't into these games perform better. At the same time, you turn off all the assists and a "bloke" will have as much trouble in FM3 as in GT5 if they don't play these games on the regular.

lol, come on man I'm trying to give the guy something to hang his hat on with GT5.

The best advice is to try both games and make your own decision.
While GT5 can look fantastic with 16 cars on a wet track the career is awful.
Forza3 knows it's limitations and works from that, the framerate never falters and the car and track selection is superb.
They may be both racing games but they try to achieve very different goals.

Seems like a good place to ask this question since most people here are experienced with Forza. Does anyone know of a good third party adapter that will allow me to use my DFGT on the 360? I've seen a couple online, but don't know how well they would work.

EDIT: I just answered my own question. For anyone interested...

Prologue wasn't dead after 4 month of it's release.

Based off of prologues sales GT5 should last a couple years.

Make no mistake - I love Forza.

I love it so much that I've run a dedicated race organiser site for nearly three years that's racked up nearly 2000 scored races and over 1,000,000 racing miles.

I put GT5P in my new PS3 (bought specifically for the eventual release of GT5) and felt like I'd come home.

I still love Forza but if there's any way you can get both you should have both.

Stop trying to discourage people getting GT5 with false claims.
GT5 has 70 tracks. Variations dont matter, it's still a track.
GT5 has 1000+ cars. Standards dont matter, there still cars you can tune just dont include interiors.
GT5 has better physics hands down.
GT5 is better.

Face it, forza is old now. Just let people with PS3s enjoy GT5 and will let you enjoy your forza.
M'kay?

I got a PS2 about a year after it came out, then got GT3 and GT4 on release. Then when I had played GT4 to death, I got an used original XBox and Forza 1, along with a bunch of other exclusive titles. Took a while to actually play it but then enjoyed it a lot and was still playing it relatively recently, before GT5 *finally* looked like it was coming out and I got a PS3 especially :)

But what I will then do is depending on how far PD update GT5, if I wear it out I will do the same again and get a used 360, and Forzas 2 and 3. Perhaps Forza 4 will be out by then too. My point is though, if racing is your thing and you are less concerned with having the latest state of the art game, this is an option, as the used console a few years into its life, and games that have been out for a year or two are an absolute steal :)

I also want a 360 for TDU1, as it would never run very well on my PC, and the next best version is probably the 360 (I liked the PS2 version but it was a different game in many ways)

Ok afro1
FM3 has over 115 tracks.
FM3 has an INFINITE number of cars. Seeing that you can put your own graphics on a car that makes it a new car. Sorta like having 50 Skylines in one game.
FM3 has better physics hands down. (Since GT5 physics DO fail in certain instances then whereas FM3's pretty much stay consistent then FM3 has to have the better physics right?)
FM3 is better.

Face it.... blah blah blah...

To the OP , you see what I'm talking about? No way FM3 has over 115 tracks, but if they're going to count chunks of one track getting cut up as tracks then FM3 can do the same thing. This is what I mean by you're gonna have to do your own research on this game. You're going to get all kinds of mis-information on both sides.

OP, this thread has been hijacked by the "glass half empty" folks who thrive on this thread.

It is a great game if you have a driving wheel and enjoy cars in general including their history. The game is not for everybody as you may have noticed. If you expect something like shift with all it's pizazz then this is not for you, but if you like driving/racing for exactly what it is, and none of the extra fluff then this is for you.

For all other folks counting tracks, do not forget the course generator.

Wait... you are getting a PS3 with GT5 in a while and you are thinking of making the switch?

Isn't it really a case of when and not if at this point?

GT5 is great. One huge letdown (in a way) comparing to GT4, but awesome nonetheless.

And I maintain its miles better than Forza. I could care less about Forza fanboys raving about the livery editor and more interiors.. GT is GT.

I personally love the craziness that Kaz expects from players, like collecting all the cars and completing grueling endurance races. I love the license tests. I love watching Bob struggling to win a simple race :dopey:

My opinion, and im entitled to it.
