thinking about making the switch

Gotta give GT5 a chance... As someone who has only played Forza at friends places, it always feels and looks a little cartoonish to me (awd vipers don't help this).

With GT I feel like the car is behaving correctly, and the environment (though sometimes sterile) is realistic. Things like better collision/damage or livery editor are more novelties that don't come into play when it's just you trying to pilot a car as fast as possible.

Its also funny to hear people talk about how "flawed" these games are... I mean speaking for gt5 I'd say you get WAY more than your money's worth from the game. I don't know when people started expecting absolute perfection, and really these games are so much better and deeper than they were not many years ago Plus updates just in the first few months have made huge improvements. And I personally enjoy the personality and quirks.

GT5 is the genius kid who has real talent and potential and moments of brilliance... but does whatever he feels like, and misdirects his efforts in the same, slightly disappointing and confusing way, always.

You been watching my life or something? I feel like youre talking about me here.

Trust me, if you are bored of Forza, you will be bored of GT5 far quicker.
This may be true if all you want to do is race, like visual damage, upgrade cars a lot - especially to AWD, and buy/sell them. Then Forza is great.

If you're finicky about car behavior, if you like to personalize your car with the livery editor and collect decals and flags, take many photos and want them on your PC, then you might be glad you don't keep a hammer near your 360.

Well.... reading that, I lumped the physics in with the crappy file handling that ruins the joy of painting liveries, and shooting and collecting pics. The physics are a bit different, and to me, in a slightly non-sim way. They're a blast, as you can tear around corners pretty fast.

But the livery editor still has issues, and the 360 just can't deal well with files of over 100 items, making them slow to sort through. Plus the ordeal of uploading pics to the Forza site to share them hurts the quality and resolution, so many shutterbugs end up buying a capture card for their PC. And then there's the whole Fanatec wheel issue which irks me.

I've compared getting the latest Forza with nabbing the newest version of Windoze, and after learning that Win7 isn't all that much better than Vista, I have a feeling this will always be the case. I think if anyone would be honest about Forza 3 and GT5, they'd say both are awesome but somewhat disappointing racers.

Op, by the sounds of it your going to get a PS3 anyway, from this I will say get GT5 and try it out to see if you like it, on the other hand don't get a PS3 just for GT5 or any other game for that matter, imo it's a stupid move to make. I wouldn't get a 360 again just for Forza 4 no matter how good it will be or any other game, it would have to be a lot of games to try out for me to be buying a console.

Just my 2 cents/pence.

There have to be some detractors to prevent the place becoming an orgy of mindless GT5 and PD leg humping. There have to be people around to remind folks that there are better games. A reality check is an important thing, as discontentment drives evolution. Besides which this forum offers far more than just the GT franchise with off topic and the other games section.
So you feel like you calling is to guide people to "the better game".
It a lot easier to complain and be unsatisfied than it is to be satisfied. One reason is our whole culture is build on trying to get people unsatisfied with what they got so they will go out and buy more useless junk just to store up in the attic or basement.

P.S Just so you know I do own both Forza 2&3 and enjoyed them yet don't see them necessary "the better game". I'm planning on getting Fm4 , NTG2011, Dirt3, Shift 2 in the near future as well.
