People who swear all the time sound uneducated and ignorant. But even the best of of can benefit from a strategically placed dirty word for extra emphasis.Originally posted by Mustang-man
Is there really any need to swear?
Does it make you feel important or powerful when you do so?
I don't get it?
Hear, hear, slip! Actually, it's not a bit harsh. I think some people tend to lose sight of the fact that forums like this are provided by someone's generosity; they are not an inalienable right. On the other forum I admin, there is a vocal "all moderators are fascists" faction that sees any attempt to enforce the rules as if it were the Nazis coming to drag them away to the camps. I'm not saying it's like that here, but continually ignoring the rules or deliberately flouting them is just disrespectful to the operator, who is essentially providing you with this forum out of the goodness of his heart.Originally posted by slip2rock

Hmmm, actually a bit harsh of me there, but honestly is it that difficult?

Biting the hand that feeds you has never been a very good idea. If you really feel that restricted by a given set of rules, put your money where your mouth is and start your own forums... funny how that never seems to happen.

We're just discussing the occasional troll/disgruntled user who figures out a way to get around the swear filter so they can post all the 'forbidden' words that shouldn't be used in an all-ages forum. A certain class of internet citizen seems to consider these anti-swearing rules a complete violation of their 'First Amendment' right to free speech. However, no matter how much these people may think otherwise, forums like this are not in the public domain but are in fact private property. By posting here, they agree to abide by the rules and acceptable-use policy put forth by the operator. That means that they do not have a 'right' to free speech in this forum, but they have a 'privelege' to post here that can be revoked by the operator at his discretion.Originally posted by Rossell
Listen. An explanation of what the hell is going on might be a good idea.
