This is one reason why insurance is soo high in england.

Surely there were a few other offences worthy of arrest other than "suspicion of false imprisonment"?

And again, I can see security getting bolstered during these events in future simply because one berk thought he could exploit the laid back nature of it up until now. It would come as either a blessing that something like it will be easier to prevent, or a shame that such events probably won't be as exceptionally open to race patrons as they have been.

It's private property, I'm not sure how it would stand as a motoring offence.

There are marshals yes, but there's not necessarily gates stopping them. Unless a Marshal wants to throw himself in front of the car to stop it I think it would be fairly easy to do. I'm sure it doesn't happen more often simply because the majority of people aren't that stupid, and even those that are, aren't necessarily big enough tossers to ruin it for everyone. Takes a certain breed of twatard to have the motivation.

Also, the reaction by their mates on Facebook was pretty sickening.

Don't get me wrong, I've gotten myself into places at Circuits where I probably shouldn't have been, but perching somewhere out of the way with my camera isn't quite the same thing - and I've seen people who are allowed to be in certain places do stupid things too.

There have been gates there every time I've raced or been involved in a race there. Perhaps they were just particularly lax that day. Seemed improbable when I first saw the vid, which I why I thought it was false, but it's obviously now proved to genuine. The marshals can only take a certain degree of blame. The race organisers in race control, who give the marshals the instructions, should have picked up on it long before they managed a lap. There were no flags waved or safety car signs given from what I could make out. It was an incredibly dumb and dangerous thing to do, but also shoddy organising by the BRSCC.

It's a shame that his girlfriend was in the car, I was hoping that one of the drivers would punt him right up the chuff, destroying the car and scaring him senseless. He's your typical 'lad' type who is new to driving and is so self absorbed he thinks he can do whatever he wants and won't face the consequences. It won't be long before he acts like that in the wrong place and gets a good smack from someone.

I've noticed before at both Silverstone and Donnington unobstructed access to the pitlane - or at least unobstructed by metal-work, normally a marshal or man in vizi-vest is enough to deter us cred-less amateur photographers, but a marshal couldn't necessarily stop a car.

Brands I'm not so familiar with (perhaps three times in the last 12 months as a spectator), normally I don't go all the way to the end of the garages, but I think I'm right in saying that's where park-ferme is? If the gates through to pit entrance were open, I can imagine it would be fairly easy.

Life sentence.
I can tolerate yolo in banter.
But here...no. I'm sorry. Just put him away. Forever.

I don't blame you. :)

Mind you, at least you can tolerate it a little bit, I can't tolerate it at all.

The sad thing is that there's always one person who's willing to balls up everything for everyone else and the fact he's trying to make out HE'S the misunderstood one rustles my jimmies a lot.

I found my self walking with audi sport mechanics and holding the door open for dr ulrich at sliverstone one year I know that feeling

I can only imagine it was the last race of the day. Otherwise the collection area, where the Polo made its way onto the circuit, would be full of cars awaiting the next race. So that's a possibility.

You can walk through the pits to get to the pit lane, but the only way to drive onto the circuit is through the usually heavily marshalled collection areas. Circuits are designed that way for reasons of safety. All the UK circuits I've visited have manned or locked gates blocking access whilst a race is on.

My Jimmies have been seriously rustled by this chav. I absolutely hate how a completely valid and energic life philosophy has degenerated into the #YOLO crowd. Playing the misfit card and being an ass to his girlfriend only makes me hate him more.

Here's hoping he drops the soap in prison just in front of someone imprisoned for also being "different".

I'm of the same feeling. I honestly don't want to express how this makes me feel as I would be instantly banned. I really do wish it was legal to deport these kind of people to their own little remote island where they can all ruin each other's lives in the name of "fun" and being a "legend". It would make the rest of the planet better for everyone.

I seriously hope this guy gets a hard time for many years to come, he doesn't deserve a license, or responsibility over anything or a girlfriend ever again in my opinion.

Australia?

Yup this is why the insurance for my 400 quid morris minor will cost 800 pounds
Not likely. Car insurance isn't valid on race tracks, so any damage he'd have sustained to his car or caused to anyone else's would not have been covered by his insurance nor be paid for by his insurance company. The costs would not have been passed on to other customers.

However, there are plenty of morons on the road exactly like him. I'm a car enthusiast and it pains me to see people like this who ruin it for the majority.

No this was a sunday cup so very relaxed
It's Europe's biggest endurance championship, so it can't be that relaxed. Also, as stated before, the levels of security are pretty equal no matter where you go, unless you go to WEC/F1 levels.

I saw this the other day. My first thought was how the hell did he manage to not only drive through the paddock without being stopped but how did he get into the pit lane and then onto the track itself without anyone stopping him?

It was a pretty stupid thing to do but luckily for him no one was hurt. Can't imagine his girlfriend still being with him after this stunt. As for this increasing insurance prices I can't see how this in particular would, they go up every year, I've only just got my first sub-£1000 quote this year and I'm 22 with nearly 5 years driving experience with no claims.

I read through a thread about this on another forum i visit. Some of the marshals and race officials that were there had posted comments. Looks like it was the result of a combination of maybe too few marshals present (a lot were on duty at Le Mans) and the fact that the tunnel and parc ferme had been left open and unchecked as the cars in the race, use it to access the re-fueling pumps in the outer paddock. The collection area was manned and gated, but the Polo accessed the pitlane via the last garage which had been left open at both sides so crews could take equipment back and forth from pit to paddock. It was just lucky timing for the Polo driver.

Because the first thought in every ones head at that race is don't let road cars on track. The only thing preventing people invading the track is common sense. Have you ever been brands hatch?

Have you been to any British race track? It's really not that hard to get onto the track if one of the garages is empty. The marshals should be on the gates at either end, but I only see them there around half the time (usually clearing space for them to be opened, and that alone would make it quite easy to drive on).

hsv This is sarcasm, I've been to most race tracks in the UK. Myself and my father accidentally walked into the Audi pit garage at Silverstone. I know how easy it is to get in a place you shouldn't be. That was at WEC.

Ah, okay

The end garage at Oulton (under the com' box) is usually left wide open, with display cars and other things going in there, and it would be really easy to drive through the paddock and get onto the pitlane through there. Also, it's worth noting that they often place younger marshals on pitlane duties, whilst the more experienced ones go to marshal points.
