Why? There was a redesign just several months ago. Plus, I can say from personal experience that it is not easy to design the graphics for a website (keeping in mind consistency, avoiding excess froufrou, getting the dimensions right, getting specific details down...) :) Jordan did the current skin in about 8 months (I think that's correct?), so don't expect frequent changes. ;)

Why not elaborate on your theory about why GTP needs a new look instead of wasting server space like this? I for one happen to like the current look of GTP very much. Jordan did a great job too. Sage is right, it takes time to write code for a site and build the graphics. Jordan isn't going to change the site every three months for no reason.

Actually, I'm most happy with the way the site looks now. It's better looking than I've ever seen it. Just pay attention to the detail. It's great.

Exactly to what extent does Jordan write the code for GTPlanet? I only ask because I have seen other sites with the same format as this one, just different colors and pictures. Isn't it sort of a template?

Careful Milefile, you might be tar and feathered for doubt our leader talents. ;)

Its amazing how much some people take for granted. Its a brave venture to be such a new member, and automaticly say it needs a new look. You haven't even been here long enough to say your tired of the "old" look.

vBulletin does provide the basic framework for this and many BBS sites. However, there is still a ton of customoization that goes into setting up boards/links/database/graphics/etc. Even though the basic armature is provided, fleshing it out takes a lot of time and thought.

Oh I totally know you don't run a site like this and not know what you're doing. I just wondered how much is plug and play and how much is custom.

I agree that the sites looks great. It'd be nice if there were more styles to pick from than just "normal" or "lite". I know that'll never happen. Oh well.

needs a new look...
No, it does not. I am extremely pleased with our current look, and I also lack the time and energy right now to create a new design simply for novelty. I should note, however, that GTP6 is forming up nicely inside my imagination. ;)

A lot of the forum's code does come from the default templates of vBulletin. I have, however, modified a large number of them, adjusted colors, added backgrounds, moved buttons, links, and made many other small changes to my liking. The main site, however, is all original.

Other forums I've seen look cheap and thrown together compared to GTP. But the basic format is recognizable. Anyway, I think it looks great, too. I can't even remember GTP4 anymore.

I bet Jordan does. I took one right before GTP5 came out, but deleted it (I'm anal about keeping my desktop and folders clean).

i think i found an old gtp4 pic in the photos section at gtplanet

attachment.php

Does anyone still have a screenshot of GTP4?
I've got one somewhere, although I can't seem to find it at the moment. I'll attach it here if I come across it.

Jordan, vBulletin 3.0 is just around the corner. I'm checking it often, I'll let you know when it is out.
Oh, I check into it often as well, and as a customer, Jelsoft emails me development updates periodically. It's going to be a great piece of software. :)

Wow, look at how few subforums there are!

Too bad that archives page doesn't show all of the CSS (like the wundeefull pinstripes!), but eh, it's close enough, I guess.

I have a screenshot of when GTP was at the MSN communities and when we had those ugly little yellow flaming folders. I found them in an old folder I never thought to look into until now.

Please, post it, I'd like to see it.

Heh, January 18th was archived, just when GTF went down and everyone jumped ship.

There are currently 10 members (0 invisible) and 5 guests on the boards.
Angel O'Death - CloneHead - entropic - jag_man_v12 - LoudMusic - masonholmes - milkmen - Pazz - robi - Sniwi

No music or movies forum, either.

I don't beleive this forum needs a change in style anytime soon; so go play with an XP skin site, GTchampion.
