Haha, 200SX amuses me. I don't see why you guys are so stressed out, it was probably in fairly bad shape before they bought. Roadworthy and worth actually caring about are two very different things.

guys...Yeah, I regret posting that now.

anyway, G20 and Impreza have been sold. Gonna look at the sent...err, 200SX tomorrow.

EDIT: Out of my price range...but perhaps someone here would like a classic Mini?

http://peoria.craigslist.org/cto/1691809502.html
The mini is cute. But the seller says it's a 1380.
I used to drive an America which is esentially the mini's fugly cousin.
It was a 1275.
If the car in the Craigslist ad is "authentic" it's bored out to within an inch of it's life. Caveat Emptor.

Not that the Public Service Message is done:

Another source for good, servicable, inexpensive cars. Hit up the church where the 'rents or grands go.
If it is a larger congregation (500 or so) Someone will know somebody that had died, or gotten too old to drive and left a car that the family really just wants/needs to get rid of.

Some of them are gonna be wildly overpriced, but a lot of them will be pretty good deals.
1. They will likely be bigger. "old fogey" cars.
2. They will either be stripped down models or LOADED to the gills.
3. They will likely be low mileage for the years. (When I was a teen, my grandparents had a 6 or 7 year old Bonneville with about 40,000 miles on it.)
4. Since they are "fogey-mobiles" they will likely be cheaper to insure.

Yes, it is kind of a "ghoulish" way to find a car. But the family really doesn't know what to do with it, can't afford to keep it around and not driving it....

I want that mini!

A 1.6 200SX is competent car, but is in no way exciting to drive... and modification is limited by that rear pipe they laughingly call a multi-link beam (unless you're willing to take a sledgehammer to the rear beam to fix the alignment).

I'd go for a 200SX SE-R if you can find one... or an old B13 SE-R... which you can get for under $1000 if you can find one that hasn't rusted to the ground, yet. Lighter, faster, more fun. A million times more dangerous.

Isn't that DavidsFarm guy a pedo or something? All of his videos are awful.

Heh, yes he is. Something do do with possession of child pornography from what I remember and I think there were a few allegations of molestation involving little boys....Stopped watching his videos of reading about it.

Kinda can't find an SE-R older than the '02. I also don't plan on making this any quicker anytime soon. For one, didn't get big full-time job, and also have a car payment in the form of student loans coming up.

and, there's always the chance that the car won't be to my liking, or the dealer won't budge on the price enough for me to get it. gonna start the offer at $1800, see if they'll take $2000 better that way.

EDIT: Well, it turned out a much nicer car to drive than we thought. Didn't need the struts after all. Engine's good, clutch is good...Every power device works, Alpine head unit, has a few hail dents, paint could use a good polish and wax...

I paid $2300 for it. Pics to come.

Agh... kill it with fire!

Oops. No pix yet, right?

Oh well... it's not a terrible car... actually handles well with better rubber... and that 1.6 will likely run forever. The only thing to really watch out for is niggling IACV and MAF faults (cheap to replace) and blown front shocks (due to the lack of suspension travel). From the previous owner of half-a-dozen B14s, congratulations and condolences.

Too bad Sentra.Net is gone... there was a good modification guide for the 1.6 on there. It was also featured on SportCompactCar (also gone). Some advice for the 200SX can still be found here:
http://www.modified.com/projectcars/0012scc_project_nissan_200sx_part_1/index.html

Turbo options available, too... you can actually do nearly 250 whp on the stock bottom end...

Ah... my Nissan days...

I don't think he was a pedo, but I remember him being arrested for contacting someone with a restraining order against him or something.

He actually lives about half an hour away from my place, although I have no intentions of heading there with my car or otherwise anytime soon.

XD

For now, nothing'll happen as far as speed parts. It's also my first Manual since I drove Gramps's Model "A"...Six years ago. So I'm still pretty green...That non-synchro gravelbox is nothing close to this.

Must say, this thing IS loaded, though. Cruise, Air, Fogs, (Will be yellow!,) power moonroof, power windows, power doors...Just about every option short of the SE-R package. Does have hail damage, and it has been repainted at some point, so we'll have to see what we can do as far as cleaning her up.

Rubber will be the first major expense, which I plan about Fall, if I don't lunch the clutch with my flat-footedness. However...I must buy a GTP Euro sticker for it tomorrow.

And I don't think I can call it "Duck" as I had planned "Percy's" replacement to be...Why am I thinking this one's "Konata?" Or some other Japanese female name?

And I like the blue backlit gauges.

Name it Nancy Nissan. It was built in America, wasn't it?

Nanci?

(That's seriously the first thing that comes to mind every time I hear that name...)

When I look up Konata, however... all I get is this:

Cute. That goes next to the GTP sticker.

250whp on the 1.6? News to me...

Before NissanPerformanceMag closed shop and the old crew at NissanForums disbanded (my account there is still active, but I never use it anymore), a member who gave his car as test-mule for the turbo development had his car running up to 233 whp on pump gas on the stock bottom end. Tuned down to about 160 whp for daily use, though... but 160 is more than enough.

I never really paid that much attention to the GA motors. I've owned a '92 SE-R, '98 SE-R and '00 SE so I'm pretty much an SR20 fan. 👍

As am I. The 92... drool... classic...

It's sad that Nissan had to replace that lovely, revvy 2-liter with the truckish QR and MR series engines... :(

Pics!!!!! :D I owned a '98 SE-R and loved every minute of it. I have a soft spot for pre-2004 SE-R's.

A 200SX with a 1.6? And here I was thinking that, like most Nissans, the numbers refer to the engine size.

Not with this one. Though the NX that preceded it was badged as either NX1600 or NX2000 depending on which engine is in it.

I guess Nissan went loco with the naming for this generation because they were trying to build up creds for the "sportiness" of their brand, with the 200SX, the 240SX and the 300ZX providing a rough hierarchy of quick, fast and really fast.

Not in the UK it wasn't. We got the "100NX". No apparent relevance to anything in the name.

I'm thinking Nina, after a young lady in my stories, as far as a name. Need to get to know her better, though.

But now is time for pics.

Front bumper has rock dings for some reason. I'll try to clean it up best I can, but may have to re-paint it.

Old car and new, together. This has become my wallpaper. I WILL have to wonder, though, if they actually make a "160SX" rear badge...

Interior is really, really clean, and everything works. Check out mah tooonz. Too bad I have a Sansa instead of an iPod. Sansa does not work with iPod connector. Looks like I'll have to use my radio transmitter again.

The GA16DE. Runs real smooth, tolerant of a Manual Transmission Newb.

I always thought I was the only one who named vehicles after girls names (Tina Tundra, and Betty Ford), but it looks like I'm not. Nina, I like it. Nice purchase, hope you like it!

I know they sold a lot of them anyways, but if Nissan had put the SR20VE into the 2002+ SE-R's they would have made a killing. But alas, they ruined another sporty car with a truck motor.
