Why does the American version of the 200SX look like a Pulsar?

Why does the Pulsar look like the American version of the 200sx?

Why did my Sentra look like a Sunny? I suppose we'll never know...

I know they sold a lot of them anyways, but if Nissan had put the SR20VE into the 2002+ SE-R's they would have made a killing. But alas, they ruined another sporty car with a truck motor.

One that ate itself to death on occassion... The QR25DE, all the low-revving goodness of a turbocharged economy lump without the monstrous torque or the overbuilt bottom end! The worst of both worlds!

Nice car. Love the 160SX idea! Should be good for a laugh. Reverse rice, yo!

Great looking 200SX. Now change over the rear tail lights and front grille to the '98 style! Also, your first mod should absolutely be a short throw shifter with a new shift boot. Those were hideous. I hated mine...

Well, let me learn to shift properly before I short throw it!

Did drive it to work for the first time today...and while I'm still a klutz, I'm getting better. My younger brother commented the night I got it that the clutch up-take is a bit high on the pedal, wondering if that's an adjustment, or sign I need to replace the clutch, soon. or if that's just him being used to pick-ups.

The gas gauge is also a little stuck at 3/4 tank, which I found out after fueling it up the morning. running some fuel system cleaner through it, and hoping that'll work. If not, backseat has to come out. Also found that the radio works well with my MP3 transmitter if I can find the right station, though the engine seems to interfere with it a little.

Oh, I thought that you meant that you'd bought a "real" 200sx like this:

We call those Pulsar Coupes or Lucinos here. They are pretty bullet proof little cars and I'm sure it'll serve you very well.

Yeah, I thought you were meaning an S series chassis Jim when you said 200SX (Silvia), not an N series! That looks like an N15 shape, the panels are different to what we get in Australia, but the bodyshape is the same. The GA16DE's are pretty cheap to do up though. :)

It's a B14, which is similar to the N15, though not exactly identical... though the differences between the N-series cars and the B-series cars is such that you can use parts between the two interchangeably... strangely. I still don't understand why Nissan didn't just merge the two lines.

Oh, how I wish they'd continued the 240SX into the S15 phase. Ah, well.

Yeah, I like my B14, I'm actually getting the hang of starting it off. Still a little clumsy with the gear lever, though.

Okay, I'm probably Gravedigging here, but I need an opinion on my next major purchase - Tires.

After looking around, and balancing wants vs. Needs, I've decided to look at Performance All-season tires in the stock size. (not ready to drop on a set of superlight 15s, yet.) The car runs 175/65 14s, and currently has three different makes, including a...um...Ride Well? Some Chinese tire with a slow leak.

I'm looking, currently, at the Yokohama Avid T4, wondering what tires are competitive. I've decided to go Tire Rack this time 'round, unless there's someone having a buy three, get one free sale...

I plan on ordering no later than Friday.

As well, I've bought another part...I'll be taking photos of THAT later. ;)

I'm really against Avid T4's, I had AVID TRZ's for a little while and hated them and it's the same family of tire. I fairly certain they are the same tires that come on the Dodge Caravans now too. And really, based on my past experiences, performance all-seasons mean that they are not going to be at anything, wet, dry, snow, dirt, whatever. You are probably better off getting a standard all-season that sacrifices a bit of dry road grip for more wet/snow traction. Also when you finally do get some rims and tires you can keep the all-seasons for winter driving until they are used up.

The Kumho Solus KR21's look pretty good and I'm fairly certain my mom had them on her Pacifica. They work great all year around and are fairly quite on the road. They handle decently well too on a car that weighs slightly more then my house. There is the Pirelli P4 Four Seasons too which ranks first in it's category on tirerack.com.

You could move to a 185/60/14 tire and have more choices, like the General Altimax HP or the Fuzion HRi, which oddly enough my buddy ran on his cheap autocross project Civic and they worked really well.

Honestly with tirerack.com tires aren't that cheap because you have to factor in shipping costs. It really works out to be about the same price as anywhere else. I always go to Discount Tire and they will price match tirerack.com with the shipping costs factored in. I think most tire shops do the same thing now-a-days anyway.

Okay. I know my brother likes the TRZs on his Taurus Wagon, I just noticed the T4s were something of a step up.

I think I asked the tire shop to quote me on those Kumhos. Haven't heard back yet, have heard back on the yokos, about $410 from them, ordered and fully installed. That's most of a week's paycheck for me...Pirellis would be more than that, I'd bet, if I went through that shop. I could go up in width, too...but I'm not entirely sure (after experiencing tire roll in my Nova) that's a great idea...

Main thing is that I can't really afford the 15" wheels and summer tires I'd like, so I could put winter tires on the stock rims. I'd like something lighter than what I have as well...and I'd like them to clear something like the NX2000 brake upgrade they discussed in the SCC article on the 1.6 200SX build up. (Granted, that'd also mean winter rims would have to clear.)

But that's a way in the future...That is, unless, you can find me a really good-paying full-time engineering position in Illinois...that isn't in Chicago...

i'm gonna get me a couple new tires tomorrow.
i've been driving with Yokohama S Drive (225/35 R19) and it's been great, now i'm getting the Yokohama Advan Sport. does anybody happen to know if there's alot of difference?

Okay, how does that help me? those tires aren't available in my size...and this thread isn't about your car, anyway! we have general tire threads...

anyway, apparently my quote was for Bridgestone Potenza RE92s, which are worth exactly $100 each at this shop and for these guys, ends up being $510. The question: worth it?

okay, It was over lunch at work and I was a little edgy, I'll admit. Sorry.

I found out, though, that they make the General Altimax HP in my size. Also found that the Pirellis are, apparently, according to TR.com's reviews, quick-wearing and noisy.

BFGoodrich G-Force Super Sport A/S H series

My brother put these on our Saturn and they are great tires. They work great in both snow and rain, and have plenty of grip on dry pavement. On Tire Rack, they are rated number 2 out of 20 tires.

Review

Oh, and they're only 66 bucks on TR, so in store they shouldn't be more than 80 per tire (of course, it's for a 185/60R14, which as Joey said should fit on your wheels).

Have you looked at thhe General Altimax RT? They are on the truck at work (15 inch rims, don't know if they are in 14s) but the guys there love 'em on road, they ride well and aren't loud or anything(according to them). And they look pretty good too. But they aren't worth the rubber they're made out of when off road

Well...not that I'll be going offroad or anything...I mean...It's a 200SX. You don't go offroad with that unless you never want to drive it on the street again. XD

I'd go for the Generals HP's to be honest, I've heard nothing but good things about that tire from the people I know who have rocked a set.

Okay. I might try a shop closer to home, call 'em tomorrow after work. I know that they're selling pretty cheap on Tire Rack, so cheap I could get a full set delivered to my house for under $300, and installed just over.

UPDATE: Well, I've bought a set of Yokohama Avid Touring-S tires from Tire Rack. Good news seems they're well reviewed, better, even than the Generals, and are a few dollars a tire less expensive. However, I thought for SURE I'd clicked on the General Altimax RT...

Ah, well. The other good thing...the Avid TRZ which I was warned against is considered an entire performance class below these tires. That, and I got 'em for $259.72 with shipping. That's about what I got for my Buy-three-get-one-free deal at Farm & Fleet with the Nova and it's mildly oversized, yet still much smaller Coopers. With installation by my local guys, Neal Tire and Auto coming to around sixty bucks, I should get them on for just over $300 total.

Triple post? aww.

The Yokos are on the car. First things I noticed...

These things ROLL! The old tires (Two Kumhos, a Kenda, and a Prime Well that didn't hold air) didn't coast like these do. I'm hoping for fuel economy gains.

On-center feel lacks a little bit. I hope this'll fade away after the 500mi break-in period.

Total cost of the endeavor (and, yes, I went to Wal-Mart to mount them,) was $318.72, as the mounting was $59.00. Not bad at all.

OH, yes, something I put on last week, but never showed...

How do I like this knob? I feel like it's easier to find where the gears are, and it doesn't get searing hot like the cheapie $12 Pilot Motorsports knob I put on there just because. I suppose a short shifter now needs to reside underneath, as well as a better boot...

Wow that's cheap for tires, gotta love that. Let us know how they are once you've put some miles on em.

Heh, Me too. I figured that spot would be just good enough to tutor anyone who hadn't driven the car. It didn't look good ahead of the shifter, or on the ashtray.

I threw the sticker for a 6-speed on my laptop, and am using that as my MSN messenger image.
