Thoughts on 'Gran turismo anywhere' next month?

GT Anywhere is the answer to the question nobody wanted asked.

From what I can gather from the responses to this thread, players are excited for this feature because in essence, it will allow them to grind more effectively. That can't be denied. If your'e not watching a B-Spec race, your'e grinding. So GT Anywhere solves (slightly) the grinding problem.

But wouldn't common sense tell you that the best way to solve the grinding issue is to increase race credits/XP? Seems so simple a solution.

GT Life is akin to amputating your leg because it's broken. Sure it will solve your broken leg problem, but is it really the right course of action?

Use simple logic Polyphony, thats all I ask.

Exactly. Increasing credits/XP would be a much more logical solution. Unless PD actually believe that people would enjoy controlling B-spec from work or the pub or wherever and not just do it to grind.

Surely not... The whole "driving simulator" tag is becoming more and more meaningless with each one of these pointless addon features

We could use some moderation here... if not I say we go back to Le-Mans stories!!!

Sorry, all moderators are out at the moment, B-Speccing for cash. If anyone would like to donate a kidney to keep us from having to do so, we could be in here all the time, instead.

This thread is to talk about remote B-Spec or GT anywhere, not a place to debate how good or bad the MP4 is in COD... I mean personal opinions on an existing feature in GT5...

MP5, you mean? I find that my PS3 plays MP5s very well, thank you, though I prefer to use my iPod. I'm an FNP fan myself, but I don't play Black Ops.

I don't really care two whits about B-Spec. Especially now that fast-forward is gone, and your B-Spec driver doesn't know how to follow orders for any longer than thirty seconds. Seriously... how hard would it be to implement a pre-race strategy where you tell Bob what to do in "X" situations and watch him carry out that plan?

But there is a time and place to debate B-Spec per se, and this isn't the place for it. Any further posts debating B-Spec in toto and not whether we actually need remote B-Spec will be deleted. Thanks.

Cheers! I as trying to sound smart about the MP4, I think I meant MP-45 as the MP5 is always good in all games...

If you have't tried B-spec since the 1.5 update then you should check it out... I just got into the middle of the extreme series and it's a completely different challenge... its like watching racing on TV and being able to yell in your favorite drivers ear! you actually learn your bobs... and know what they will do, and they all have different personalities even if the stats are the same so thats the randomizing factor...

But it's sort of like putting a simplified football manger game into a football game... They are very different games...

I'm going to repeat this once more, and then just give up since nobody is listening.

Eurogamer, and a bunch of other sites have confirmed that this is not a grind-worthy update. You can't use the remote feature to grind. Period. You don't get Level XP from it for B-Spec, the only XP you get is to your B-Spec drivers class. You can not, or will be unlikely to, play the career B-Spec events.

You WILL be able to race other peoples B-Spec drivers.

You WILL NOT be paid or paid much for winning.

I have tried it since 1.05 (in fact, I only opened my GT5 after Christmas, so I got 1.05 installed right away after I installed GT5). Not really my cuppa tea... but I'm getting around to the better races. And... we're now officially off-topic.

Funny... being able to B-Spec multiplayer... wonder what that will feel like... the sound of a dozen faceplams through the headset as your Bobs all queue up in a neat, orderly line behind the first place guy who's brought a Viper to an LMP fight?

Not the most useful thing in the world, but I can imagine it being great fun, especially with a few drinks and a bunch of nice, squirrely cars.

The day I find myself out at the pub checking my phone to see how some AI driver is going on my PS3 back at home is the day I realise I have no life.

I love GT but there's a time and a place for it

So you saying the guy who checks sports scores at the pub/bar has no life? Oh it because it a gam...wait. Btw, I see what you did there. There's nothing wrong with peaking in on your favorite activity while you hang with friends, its the looking yourself in the house for 24 hours while you do an endurance race that signifies a lack of social activities aka a life.

For those of us who can only play a few hours a week, this is a god send. I know most people want more events, but this feature obviously isnt for those people.

Do you guys think they're going to fix all the major problems in one quick update? I mean, jeebus chris, it took 3 or so years to make the game.

"Well, PD doesn't have to give us BS until they finished blah blah.."

If they didn't people would be complaining that PD isn't doing antyhing.

Yes, there are more important things to be addressed, but they're not going to be fixed over night. Until then, sit down, shut up and enjoy the ride.

I think this gt anywhere will be the prelude to "b-spec online" in this, maybe one of the coming patches.

hopefully will will know soon what gt anywhere will be exactly ^^

I've just erased a great big wall o' text. Sorry to people responding to the off-topic who got caught by the Mod-bomb, but it was getting tiresome.

Again, I said: NO MORE GENERAL B-SPEC rants.

You know who you are. You've been warned before. Any further posts will be infracted as spam.

Oh my goodness, thank you!

Once again, why not just increase the credits so you don't have to play 5 hours a day to buy the cars you want?

I see where you are coming from because I am one of those people who only gets time to play a couple of hours a week. As such, I would rather PD release updates that make those couple of hours more enjoyable.

Allowing me to earn easy credits by playing remotely doesn't achieve much. All it does is allow me to buy better cars but I still have to put up with the same useless AI, the poor sound effects, the graphical bugs etc.

It makes no sense

All it does is allow me to buy better cars ...

Make sense to me, i am about to complete my collection of DTM cars, as well as half way through my Rally collection (These are just 2 sets of what i am collecting). Yes for B-Spec, and yes to the web controlled function. You can call it grinding i call it collecting.

You're welcome. Your last response went in the grinder, too. Sorry. Don't want to leave anything for the anti-B-Spec Brigade to respond to.

;)

Fair call, I wish I owned every car in the game (well, not every car). What I'm getting at is that even if you own a multitude of your favourite cars, you will still have to drive them against the same senseless AI etc.

I'm not really opposed to the concept of B-spec or GT Anywhere (even though I will never use them), I just think PD should have focused on smoothing out the driving system before providing a means of obtaining more cars. Its the whole "allocation of resources" thing that everyone keeps banging on about.

It doesn't matter how many cars you have, because the underlying issues will still be there

Hilarious. First you join in on the B-Spec pile-on, then tell US that this isn't the place for it. Maybe consistency IS the hobgoblin of small minds, but one kind of expects it from a Moderator.

Thank you. So I gather that as I am inconsistent, you'll agree that I don't have a small mind?

I said what I said to show that I'm not taking sides against you in this argument. I am simply concerned with keeping this thread on track.

And that means keeping off-topic to a minimum... whether or not I agree with you is beside the matter. As I've told you before, I do not take sides in such matters as a moderator. The side I take is the side of the board. Which is: No spamming. No abusive comments. Period. It doesn't matter if one guy is an annoyance. If the other guy, who isn't, drops an F-bomb on him, he's the one getting the infraction.

That is the basis of my sole, solitary and only warning as a regular member on GTPlanet. Cursing at a troll. That warning serves as a reminder to follow both the rules and proper etiquette.

Here I go, being inconsistent again, continuing with the off-topic banter. But then again, if I don't explain myself every single time I sneeze, it apparently becomes the topic du jour, doesn't it? I personally find your questioning me annoying, but you're not breaking any rules by doing so, which is why I will patiently explain myself every single time you do so and not abuse my powers as a moderator and do something silly against you.

But then, again: This is a discussion for remote play and remote play ONLY. Last call. All B-Spec rants get erased.

Lets not suck the mod into defensive explanations, believe it or not he is entitled to his personal opinions too.. I know shocking anyone "official" has something personal to say in todays world... I personally find it refreshing.

Least we forget he was invited here... As this is now 13 pages of nothing but debate of personal opinion... And I appreciate these will continue in many more threads until a proper suggestion and feedback sub forum can be created... (HINT)

opinion here, but i think a lot of people are missing the point.

Gran Turismo 5 is more a racing lifestyle game than a simple "progress through the game"... game.
you have to race the same races over and over through your GTLife career? well so do the NASCAR guys. and the F1 guys. and the SuperGT guys. and the DTM guys. and the NHRA Drag Racing guys. and the etc etc etc.

it's not a game in the traditional sense. it's not about beating. it's about giving guys like me, who enjoy auto racing but has no realistic chance of being part of that scene, to be part of that scene virtually. do fans of the sport bitch and moan because the 24 Hours of Le Mans is held at Circuit de la Sarthe every year? or that the Daytona 500 is the official season opener in the NASCAR Sprint Cup? or that the Isle of Man TT is held year in and year out? it's just not a racing game to be conquered like a NFS game or Motorstorm... it's racing for the sake of racing.

and B-Spec is just another variation of that life, in the role of crew chief.
"take 'er down a notch through that chicane, pal. we're losing time there because you're getting on the throttle too heavy, too early."

GT5 did come out about half-cocked.
but i suspect that came from pressure from Sony to get the game out and start making money off it. so far, it seems like updates have been more of putting things in that Polyphony had intended to be in from the onset, but were unable to finalize prior to release.

i mean... the Seasonal Events and Online Dealership fit nicely onto the GTLife menu screen, and especially with the Seasonal Events, they definitely had a setup already in mind it seems.

Yes, a lifestyle game makes good sense and I've heard this before... It's a product for auto enthusiasts more than just gamers. It's also why PD does proprietary running demo that you can get a car dealerships and stuff like that...

BUUUT with all the debates of "why" behind us and leading into the "what" minus the "when"... has anyone heard anything more about this feature? Or anything update related? I'm pretty certain that the people developing this feature are not the same people that work on the rest of the game so I can imagine more coming... Any word?

They sure do fit nicely and there are at least 3-4 more spaces for new icons/links.

Those boxes look a lot like simple XML and can be changed very easily... I bet they will change completely in the next few months... In fact the entire interface outside of the garage appear to be that simple window dressing...

Furthermore, if they didn't want to add the side to side functionality into the A and B spec windows they could just slide a whole other set of events from the left side of the screen...

GT Anywhere sounds like a waste of time to me.

I would rather PD spent their time and resources fixing and improving the core game, which would benefit everyone, rather than a niche feature I don't many people will use.

Just like everything else, PD has remained silent. Expect more of the same until it's released, and 5k more threads on here about the same subject.

I think it's just another stupid pointless excercise in what's technically possible & adds nothing to the game. Whereas, adding a general internationally recognised flag system, champoinship points tables, stewards AI, Pace car/safety car & changeable options for various motor sport rules ect, would make the game a better 'motor racing simulator'.

Kaz talks a lot about "insane levels of realism" but this seems to only apply to how a car looks, GT is very much a style over substance game & focuses too much on a few tiny details to the detriment of everything else.

I'm getting seriously tired of GT & of all the nonsense Kaz & PD are coming out with, this GT Anywhere thing being a perfect example.
