Thoughts on missing "on the box" features?

Ok, ok, I admit it. I'll come clean. I don't care that I can't share automatically generated tracks with friends. I'm ashamed to admit that I will still play the game and enjoy it without it.

Ok, that being cleared up. Are you saying that this missing feature is actually a big deal to you?

Wow, slow on the uptake are we? Isn't that what he has been saying all along?

To some people it is a big deal, not just which features are missing but that there are features missing at all. News flash, telling people that it doesn't bother you and it shouldn't bother them doesn't change their feelings about it.

See, in this case, finished just means one thing: Deliver the product that was advertised the way it was advertised.

If I advertised delivering a delicious, well-done steak and served you raw meat, it's an unfinished job, whether you like your meat raw or not.
GT5's the same thing. The box doesn't contain what's written on it and that stuff has to be added later.
That is the perfect definition of an unfinished product.

You know, everything along those lines justifies bringing the product back.
See, if you came to the bank I'm working at and took out a loan and you were told you'd have to pay an interest rate of 5,95%pa. and we actually demanded 6,45%pa., wouldn't you try to step back from your contract as well?
The difference isn't much, but it's there and justifies being recognised.

Your comparisons are a little faulty. Take the interest rate on a loan, for example. The rate is the single most important feature of the loan i.e. the product. If that was not as advertised, then yes, this a deal breaker.

Now if GT5 had been advertised on the box as being a driving sim, and it actually turned out to be a train driving simulator, you would have fair complaint.

What we have here is one of the bullet points down a list not actually making into the game. It is not a fundamental part of the product. This kind of thing has happened before and it will happen again. Boxes get printed before the final build is completed. It is not good, but it happens. And I'll be willing to bet there aren't many normal people caring a great deal about it.

I did not say at any point that because it doesn't bother me, it shouldn't bother you. What I'm asking here is, if it does bother you, why? It is a single feature, despite the title of the thread being stated in the plural.

You are in fact right, it's not going to be a big deal to most people.

However, the fact that that feature is missing means one thing:
Whenever someone says the game's unfinished or had false advertising, they're right about it. It's not an opinion, it's a fact. Plain and simple.

What? We have ONE single feature that didn't make it in? So what?

How many times would you actually make use of this?

Is this a complete deal breaker?

It isn't as if the course designer is a genuine designer anyway - its more of a generator a la F-Zero's. Not really a compelling reason to share the 'generations' it creates with your friends and the world.

Is this reason to vent your spleen and call your lawyer?

I think not.

One? Try one of several missing features.

What else is missing?

Correct any of the following if they were previously dismissed before the game was actually released.

- YouTube upload.
- Online B-Spec Mode
- Matchmaking
- Leaderboards
- Wasn't there something about a Facebook-esque community feature?

That's honestly all I can even remember.

The only two on the back of the box are Leaderboards and matchmaking.

I think some, like myself, would argue that lobby rooms are better than matchmaking. I prefer to find my own room, so I can see quality and connection speeds. Plus having people make their own rooms for certain types of racing wouldn't be possible with matchmaking. I really enjoy jumping in a honda meet titled room with everyone just free racing honda's :D.

I hope they add it for the people that do want it, though. I'm sure I may use it every now and then too.

The manual mentions sharing your Course Maker made tracks online.

That's three features, at the very least...

Pictures can be found on page two.

Nice find. You think PD would understand how useless track creator is when you can't share the tracks with anyone, but yourself.

I'm sure everything mentioned will be added and updated eventually. Matchmaking might be the only one that I can see being hard to implement, but I'm no game designer..

Wow. :odd:

So, not only is it a missing feature, what we have now is broken....

Just scrolled up and saw the underlined text as well, I'll need to look in my manual and see if it's there as well.

Oh! I remember looking through Apex not too long ago and there's a Photo mode shot of the SLS with both of it's doors opened - what's that all about?

The one thing I don't like about PD is their reluctance to inform people. Whether it's a complaint, a patch, a question, etc. they never seem to give people information and when they do, it's always very vague. I'd love to know the logic and reasoning behind toning down the damage that was present in the demo as well as other things, but they don't seem to wanna give any answers even though these are things people have been asking about since launch.

Probably a feature that the left out because they couldn't get it done.
There was also a picture (I can't find it) of a sls that was in photo mode while driving with a person in the car.

Whatever happened to 18MP photomode?

For some people, such as myself, online features ARE the most important feature of the game. In an age of homogeneous racing games, it's the quality of the online features that make a game stand out to me. When I heard the announcement back in September of the course creator, and that it was playable online, I was completely blown away. The idea of racing randomly generated/created tracks online is something I've been dreaming of for many, many years. I preordered GT5 that night.

Come to find out, it just isn't in the game, despite what it says in the manual. In the words of the internet, "son i am disappoint."

There is no excuse for advertised features being missing. And even less excuse for no explanation as to why they're missing. I know there are cultural differences between Japanese game developers and Western ones, and that they tend not to communicate as much with their customers, but this is ridiculous. The meager outreach they're doing (via Twitter of all places, and in only one language) makes it seem like they just don't care. They're just doing their thing, regardless of who complains, and if what they're doing happens to coincide with our requests, fine. If not, sucks to be us I guess.

Really obnoxious.

It (along with all the other online features missing) is a big deal to me... I cranked out some kart courses (since so few are actually good for karting) and went to hop online thinking it would be fun to have a custom tracks room... then I realized why I had never seen one yet...

Seriously I have yet to get a really good trackmaker course, but if I could put them online to at least spice up the rotation a bit it would go a long way...

Thinking of what you had typed I remembered something. Gran Turismo has a blog and the last time it was even updated was 10/09/2009 and it was about GTPSP. Now I don't know about the rest of you but the blog would be the best place to update everyone on what is being done with the game instead of using freaking twitter.

I think it's hilarious that the denialists are regularly the ones who know the least about the situation... you go griping at people for complaining when you don't even know what the missing features are... you are like gaming25 who said g27 owners were whiners for complaining and asked if we were just sad we didn't have a picture of our wheel in the setup screen - guess what, the G27 has two of it's main buttons not functioning (L3 R3) and can't access the RA menu no matter what button you set RA menu to.

You do the same thing... you are tired of people complaining but you don't even know what they are complaining about and then when you find out you try to write it off...

For the record, online Bspec, matchmaking, Cr for online races and online events and sharing course are all listed in the manual (at least US manual, I can't comment on other coutnries).

Not exactly. I think I'm aware of what people are complaining about all too well. All I'm asking is why this is such a huge deal.

My UK box must be a little different to yours. Online B-spec is coming by the way. Apparently. So this leaves matchmaking - which I personally I'm not a fan of, but I'm sure you'll dive in telling me its causing you physical pain in its absence, CR for online racing, and the course sharing we've already talked about. A positive, overflowing tidal wave of missing functionality...call the lawyers!

Do I know you? :odd:

Not to mention point 2-4 are either mentioned on the cover art, or in the manual.

Chew on your thoughts before responding next time, champ.

I really hope not.

Not on my box they aren't. I suggest a little chewing yourself, err "champ".

If your case has a lot more promises on it and fails deliver, you can hardly be surprised, its the whole American way as far as the hard sell is concerned isn't it?

Bottom line is that the game misses features that are listed on the back of the box and in the manual. In some regions there are more features mentioned than in others, but whatever...

Well, what I'd like to know is this: Where does the urge to downplay this issue come from?
Credits for online races is, for example, something that very well has a pretty big impact on how the game plays. With that feature added, people could instantly stop grinding A-Spec or B-Spec for credits and hop online instead.

So, because those missing features aren't mentioned on the back of your cover art...that somehow diffuses the fact that features are missing, broken, or just half-assed?

Also, if you're going to attempt at being a smart ass, at least have the creativity to devise (that means to create or organize, by the way) your own retorts.

I can see you are disappointed that these features are missing. Sorry, but that's life. Disappointments come. Things sometimes don't meet your expectations. The product, GT5 is what it is.

How would you suggest I organise my retorts in future? Alphabetically? Bullet points - you seem to like them...

I have a solution....
