I'm thinking about putting it on my Christmas list but I've never used one before and not sure if its worth 100+ bucks. GT5 is the only racing game that I have and to be honest I can't say that I'm in love with this game... Also, Should I expect the game to get much better with downloadable content? I'm not too big of a fan of the 800 Standard cars and only 200 Premiums. Plus the online doesn't seem to be all that great.

Whats your thoughts? Do they work for Xbox as well? I could maybe justify receiving a free steering wheel/pedals if I could use it for future games, like Forza if they make another one.

The only steering wheel and pedal set that works for X360 & PS3 is the GT2 from Fanatec, CSP edition but that is 500€

I cant tell if you should get a wheel or not.

Racing games are a lot more enjoyable with a wheel, but if you are not really a fan it may be a somewhat big investment, especially if you are out to get one of the better wheels.

The Fanatec GT2 whell works on both PS3, Xbox, and PC. But its quite expensive about 250 $ for the cheapest model.

There are no other wheels that works both for PS3, and Xbox as far as i know.

I'd never play A-spec without my wheel.. :)

And I only have racing games, so GT5 B-spec is actually the first thing I've used the stock controller for :p

Get a driving force EX, has a noticeable FFB strength, looks cool and turns just over 180 degrese, which avoids the 900 that can be a hassle when trying to drift.

And You'll bag one for £35!!!!!

Get a wheel. If you find GT5 with a controller (wich i will never understand) you will love it with a wheel. It is 2 diffrent games, no doubt.
Clutch is less important if you dont wanna buy a G25, G27 or Fanatec. You should then buy a more solid wheel, 2 pedals and shifter only.

Lovin my GT3...it doesnt work with the Xbox, but I believe it is a software ploy in order to sell separate units...I think in the future the GT3 V2 will get a firmware update and will be compatible...anyway, I love it and wouldnt dream of racing a car without a wheel and my clubsport pedals

get a wheel ... and you'll end up buying a playseat too ... believe me i know :sly:

I allways recommend getting a decent wheel. It completely transforms the game to a whole new experience. With a pad its a game, with a wheel its a sim.

Do you guys by any chance know of the fanatec gt3 rs 2.0 works with the xbox a well? I am seriously considering to buy forza 4 when its released. Not really too pleased with gt5 right now.

I was interested in the Logitech GT pro force wheel but the 900degree turning made me reconsider. It retails in my part of the world for just over 1000HKD which isn't a bad price. If anybody can rate/recommend it please do as i really need a wheel myself and am leaning toward this one.
I bought a Ferrari endorsed wheel for '4 in 2008, it sucked balls. Totally non-sensitive and jerky (wheel and pedals). I took it back for a refund after a few days.

Nope the only Fanatec whell that works on both PS3, and Xbox is the GT 2 model.

logitech driving force gt, is all you need ! ( pc/ps3)

Agreed. It's a good compromise on the cost front, and it's pretty good too. Certainly better than the controller. As long as you don't mind not having a clutch pedal it's probably the best wheel out there at the moment. Plus, if it turns out you don't like it or you don't play enough, it's not a massive drop in the ocean because it's sub £100.

I'm looking to get the GT wheel in the new year providing I find nothing better for the cash. It is under 100quid yes which is a nice deal. It's not a case of not playing enough with it as I'll just have to learn to like it, I spent too long playing '4 with either a sub-standard wheel or a control. I was hoping somebody could give me some info on the pro/cons of a 900degree turn wheel as apposed to say a 180.

I enjoy the driving force GT feels to me like a road car wheel should and can be very immersive for the small price. The 900 degrees turn allows you to find that sweet spot for just the right amount of lock when you corner and its easier to be consistant. I have found around the indy oval I'm a full second a lap slower with the pad, it could be a bit more on proper circuits.

On average 3-5sec faster a lap with the DFGT wheel and my tires last longer. Down side, it makes you want to drive the same way in real life especially if you just got off the game.

Have to admit that all this talk about steering wheels makes me want one even more. I'm sure I could be so much faster with a wheel.

I have a Logitech DFP but the pedals no longer work, and despite following a couple of internet guides it looks like one of the pots is dead, and Logitech don't sell spares. So I have a wheel, but no pedals and I can't even find any second hand ones eBay :(

Not sure I can justify buying just a wheel for one game.

I would highly recommend getting a wheel. It is a much more immersive experience! With that said if your playing multiple platforms then the Fanatec GT2 is the only way to go.

I take a taxi everywhere in real life. Does this mean buying the wheel will make me a taxi stealing-wannabe-Alonso-type-road racer?
Seriously though, if it is as good as you guys say it is then i shall have to get one. I don't mind having no clutch. Thing is, I've always managed to find the right steering angle on the controls stick, even to the smallest degree. (After about a year & 25000miles in A-spec on '4!):)

(I'll only be needing it for the PS, I've no plan to buy an Xbox any time soon/ever. All my friends have them should I want to play one)

Buy a wheel. It adds so much fun. I'd say ensure you buy a 900 degree wheel as you will never actually use all 900 degrees but it will give you the sensitivity you need. There's a reason the DFP, DFGT, G25, 27, all the Fanatecs, etc. are 900 degrees.

Well while it will not work on xbox 360 i got to vote for the driving force gt, just because it is cheap new and you can buy one used off ebay and the like for about 50-60 usd, buy off a high rated seller and you should have np at all.

And it will work with pc also.

But if you not really into driving games i cannot say how much of a must a wheel is, i mean a wheel makes driving games 10x better if not more so. But i own f1 2010, tdu, gt5, gt5p, have played rfactor etc, etc. But a used wheel is only the cost of a game and if you get 50 100 hours of fun out of it and gt5 that is a good deal imo.

Even a cheap, non-force-feedback wheel makes a lot of difference. It's much easier to control throttle and breaking with pedals than buttons, and much easier to hold steady during cornering. Of course, force-feedback is even cooler!

If you play any racing games with regularity, it's worth the investment to get a wheel. Even Burnout Paradise was so much more fun with a wheel, and that's very "arcadey". Games like GRID and GT5 practically require a wheel to do well, IMO.

So (since i have been looking for a wheel all morning online) I'ts boiled down to

Playstation 3 Logitech Driving Force GT Racing Wheel
Logitech MOMO Force Feedback Racing Wheel
or
Driving Force Wheel for PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3

can anyone give me some feedback on all 3?

Of those, I only have the Driving Force Wheel (not GT). It's ok, but it doesn't have a huge rotation and the pedals are kinda cheap. I've been making due with that one for a while. It has no clutch, but does have paddle-shifters.

A large part of the equation comes down to how much you're wanting to spend (and if you're gonna pay more than 30 bucks on the Driving Force, you're paying too much--it's a pretty old wheel).

Personally, I just upgraded to the Fanatec 911 Carrera wheel, because I wanted a clutch and H-gate, which it comes with, as well as a wider rotation angle. It's in the mail now, so I can't give any feedback on it, but it seems to be a good wheel.

Edit: This is the Driving Force that I have, and assume is the one you're referencing:

My vote would be DFGT I own a pair of them (makes split screen a blast) and haven't had a problem out of either of them and love how they feel. I bought one new and found the second on a local forum or craigslist can't remeber for $50 so you can find them used cheap too. Like others have said it will totaly change the experiance of racing games.

I got a Driving Force GT for $99 a couple weeks back when it was on sale at Amazon and it's great. I'm better at driving, it's more fun, and I find I play more. The only tricky part is figuring out a good stand if you don't have a table handy. I picked something up at Home Depot and modified it a bit and it works pretty well but it's not perfect. However for $30, I'll live with it for now!

I had the Driving Force EX for the Xbox 360 (Forza) and now I have a Driving Force GT for PS3 (GT). DFEX is not bad for the price. At the time I bought it on sale for $39.99. It has force feedback and I believe around 200 degrees steering. The pros for non 900 degrees steering wheel is its cheaper, that's all I can think of. Cons, its only 200 degrees steering. Seriously 200 degrees is wack when playing sims. Basically since its only 200 degrees the steering is more sensitive. It makes it harder to hit the sweet spot for cornering. This kinda wheel might go well with an arcade racer. The DFGT is great. the driving experience is amazing. This wheel as you probably already read about is the best bang for the buck. I was actually interested in the G27 since I hate auto trannies in real life... I tried it at a friends house and I must say it is better than the DFEX and DFGT. However it is not as good as the price. When I tested it I did not feel like it was worth $300(MSRP). I recommend you get the DFGT. If your rich or a sim fanatic get the G27.

DFEX
Pros: Cheaper, might be better for an arcade racer
Cons: Only 200 degrees steering, bad for sims

DFGT
Pros: Great price, 900 degrees steering, sequential shifter, has a stopper for carpet(gas/brake pedal), made for GT5
Cons: Can't really think of one but if I was to be picky it would have to be the shifters behind the steering wheel. Instead of a lever/paddle its a button. Oh the sequential shifter... down is to shift up and up is to shift down.

G27
Pros: Feels more expensive, clutch, H shifter, lots of programmable buttons, 900 degrees steering, dual motor force feedback (all the other ones have a single motor for the FFB), wheel and stick can be seperated.
Cons: Expensive, clutch and stick doesn't really feel like the real thing, stick is loud when shifting, Must press clutch all the way down before shifting.

All these pros and cons were just off my head (and are just opinions) so if anyone else wants to add or correct, please feel free to.

Also it would be much appreciated if someone can list their settings for the DFGT and GT5 options. I like my settings but want to hear from the community for an optimum experience.

I use the MOMO... mainly because I have had it for years for my PC. It's cool that it works with this game. Being made for the PC, it does have drawbacks when hooked up to the PS3 (no dpad, some buttons don't work). If you can find one dirt cheap, then it's better than no wheel at all, but I would think either of the other two would be a better match. It all depends on which one you feel is the best value.
