As I started reading MasterStorm's PS2 travails I was thinking I would hold off on submitting this R92CP video, but since it had a happy ending here is my response to his 352.68mph
Ah, I can probably top that speed just by moving one of the gears a notch or two, but I don't have access to my capture card until saturday now.

The R8 doesn't go as well for me yet; I have run 358.08mph, but I think it may have wheelied slightly, and I never got a chance to check. :nervous:

I have a strong feeling the settings will not be found again...
If this is a new car, and you feel it may be 300mph capable, then you must endeavour to bring it into the club! :)

If you ever have a similar situation where you cant eject the PS2 with a disc stuck inside then this pic below will be invaluable as you dont need it powered up or have to open the PS2 case ;)
My brother uses something like that to play import games, but in this case, it would not have helped. Even when I had the case and drive enclosure open, I could not slide the tray out fully by hand (with force), with it getting stuck only an inch open. Pressing the open button got stuck at the same position, then gave up and closed again. Instead one of the counter weights had got misaligned, and the tray was not seated right on the runners.

Thanks for the suggestion though anyway! 👍

Well its pretty bad that your PS2 fell but it could've been worse, MS. At least its still working so you can produce more amazing speeds! 👍

Is it just me or has Rac3rX's Toyota GT1 speed been taken off the leader-board? Shouldn't his speed still be the 3rd fastest or somewhere around there?...anyways sorry if this has already been answered.
Leo
yup, it's been taken off since it was beaten and the owner of that record has been banned.. besides, none of us wants to remember that arrogant brat.

(check out the sparks from dragging the tail)
I think we've all seen R8s doing that before..
I'm fairly sure about the R92CP run, but I know first-hand how precarious the R8 is at speed. Sometimes you can't even feel yourself whether the nose lifts or not, so, if it's not too much trouble, I'd like a close-ups video of that run 👍

I just got a new record, but won't have access to my capture card until Saturday or later. I might work on it some more though, and turn it into somthing extra special, by taking it past the next 10mph barrier. :)

I don't remember seeing any sparks when my R8 was doing 356.xx!
Mine was sparking massively, as was Viper's :)

Congrats 👍 I like the casual attitude... 'Oh, I might take it into the next tens, if I get some free time...' :p

Heh, but I've now done it... maybe hmm, I actually can't decide if it's wheelieing or not. The bottom of the wheel is sitting exactly flush with the shadow, but I'm sure it normally actually sits slightly below the shadow. Because of that I don't know if you count it as a wheelie or not. If that's not valid, then I can hopefully make the difference other ways... :nervous:

MS, I have had the same issue with the R8. This is what I have done to convince myself one way or the other when it was not cristal clear. I take a few photomode shots exiting the tunnel (so I have the same track/sun/banking relationship as at the finish line) to see what the shadow/tire relationship looks like without a wheelie and compare it to the top speed pictures. I also figured that if I have steering control then the tires must be in contact with the ground, so I did a run and steered right and left exiting the tunnel just to make sure that I was not already in the air. Then I did the same thing on a subsequent run at the top speed. Once it is in the air you can go lock to lock and nothing happens.

Before doing the above, though, I like taking low level views of the tires as I find these more reliable. There have been times when from the side it looked (to me, at least) like it was a legitimate run but on one or more low level shots you could see daylight under the tire. If the wheelie is very small (say a half inch or less) most of the time I can't discern that from the side. And an additional complication arises if you happen to be running a lot of front camber where the outside of the tire can be clear of the track but the inside is touching.

Anyway, good luck.

DE, any comments are appreciated. The above is just my approach to determining whether a run convinces me of its legitimacy. I want to make sure that this is not taken to be some attempt to usurp your judgement. :)

I have no complaints about any methods that stop me getting a load of illegitimate runs ;) and anyway, anything you post still gets my close scrutiny whether you're 100% certain of it or not :p

The easiest way to check doubtful setups is to drive with one set of wheels on or right next to a yellow line - if you can see the whole width of the line from any angle, then your front wheel isn't on the ground. Pretty simple really, and it's worked well in the past. Another method is to find a camera that actually goes all the way down to the ground, and see if you can see the sidewall under the wheels or not.

Steering input isn't an ideal test, because if you're pulling left and right you're not going to get near your top speed. Thus, you are only wheelieing right at the peak of your run, you wouldn't know it from the input test. A point against running the car slower to check the balance and appearance is that the car could tilt a lot further at a higher speed but still not wheelie - although this problem discounts doubtful runs rather than letting them pass, as steering tests might.

Looks legit, good run:tup:

Massive rear camber:sick:

Ive been fairly busy with school and work so I wont have new speeds for quite a while

Still wondering what Toronados speed is, even though I wont beat it

Massive rear camber

When I first started with this 300MPH thing I tried max camber front and back in an attempt to reduce rolling friction. I'm still not sure if it really does that. But what I find is that leaving the rears maxed out while reducing front camber (in this the case the rears are at 10.0 while the fronts are at 6.0) is sometimes a useful way to balance the car (ie: reduce understeer and scrubbing of the fronts) and gain speed through the turn and entering the tunnel.

The position those front wheels are at in the video is exactly what I was describing before, 2078TM, when the bottom of the wheel is exactly flush with the shadow. With that in mind, I definitely will have somthing special to bring soon. DE knows what it is already, I just hope I can reproduce the run when I'm back with my computer (for capture card).

I've also beaten the R92CP speed, but again, it's a matter of reproducing the run.

Finally, I note with your R8 run, that my current setup is a good 2mph faster both into and out of the tunnel, but only goes on to reach 356mph. Your top end acceleration seems much smoother than mine though, which makes me think you are using harder tyres.

Anyway, well done! 👍

Hey, Opendriver

I was just on the Highest HP thread and saw your post back in June.

Does your GT One really have only 1088HP? That's 70HP down on a new one.

Yes, I'm not in front of the game right now (work, you know ;)) but I do believe my replay screen shows that as well.
I was referring to the number shown next to the power and torque chart that you see when changing settings.
I generally don't pay any attention to the HP number shown during replay because I think (I could be wrong) that it is insensitive to oil changes, and perhaps mileage as well; whereas the number shown next to the chart appears to be the most accurate.

That's because that figure at the start of the replay shows the absolute minimum power output of the car in the current tune. So, it ignores everything you do except parts changes.

Judgement on 2078TM's Audi R8 run witheld.

I finally got the YouTube video's up for my last set of runs; links are in the original post. You'll notice that theres no R92CP video up, that's because I intend to take the record back (I've already run faster, just away from my capture card), and I only keep my fastest speeds online.

Now I'm back with the capture card again, so I just need to go record the new record(s) that I've beaten, then I'm fully up to date.

Looking fowards to finding out about everyone one else's progress! 👍

Hey DE,

Not to put you on the spot, but could you let me know what you saw on the replay that you didn't like so I can try to remedy it? Thanks

Also, extremely unimportant, but as I was fooling with the GT One for the wheelie thread it struck me that my Toyota is liveried Exxon Superflo, not Esso Ultron. I'm sure it never raced that way (as far as I know the US is the only place that Exxon changed the brand name at the time that they changed the corporate name).
