Tiff Needell tests gt4 on 5th gear

I think its easier to drive a high downforce F1 car than a skittish TVR or something...

Just because the drivers make it look so smooth on TV doesn't mean F1 isn't the most demanding form of driving (maybe along with world championship rallying)!!!!
 
the WRC and F! are the 2 most demanding sports i think. One makes you push the limits buy flying through country terrain at higher speeds then most of us would cringe at. The other pits you in a car that could destroy you average joe. 0-60-0 in like 5 seconds. There was actully i test done a f1 car that proved the cars stop at the pace of human ability. The computer could slow it down like almost a second quicker.

You definitely don't have to be rich to get into F1, but it sure doesn't hurt. Michael (and, for that matter Ralf) Schumacher's father, according to Formula1.com, was a bricklayer who ran the kart track in Cologne. And both of Scotland's World Champions--Jimmy Clark and Jackie Stewart--were farm boys. On the other hand, Nikki Lauda's family was among the weathiest in Austria, and it is a well known fact that he bought his way into F1, where I think he proved himself 3 times over (World Champion '75, '77, and '84).

I'm firmly of the opinion that F1 drivers are the best in the world, that any of them could get into anything and make it go fast more quickly than nearly all of the drivers of the world and all of the game players. There is, and always will be, an enormous difference between racing a real car on a real track and playing a game: no one has ever died from hitting the wall playing a game!

Real drivers do mental laps. A game like GT4 might assist them in doing this. But I don't think playing games like GT4 can really prepare you for racing, that someone really good at GT4 might very well be a lousy race car driver, if given the chance. It just does not necessarily translate.

i dunno.. IF you've ever seen michael schumacher's steering work, its not what you;'d call smooth. :) Most of the time he's turning the steering wheel left and right like he's scrubbing the floor or something,. :) His pedal manipulation is smoother than most other drivers though, even smoother than Senna if you look at tellemetry data.... his steering work is scrazy though... :scared:

IRL your arms start to ache after a good race. I havent experienced that in gt4 yet.


I have in LFS and GTr though :)

LFS is the reason i have forearms that look like Arnold's. :) I even got a few blisters from drifting without wearing gloves (since you can make FF so strong)

Also for the guy that said u ahve to have a rich family to get into auto racing not true. there are club racers for maita's and 2nd gen Rx7. That cost around 10k or less I mean if you want to go big time racing yes u need alot of money but just get into club racing nope. And you can't say its not competative, i've seen club rx7 guys go 5 wide into a turn b4. On the club racer level most ppl are trying to get noticed so they are likley to take more risks.

You make it sound like its really easy for everyone to gather 10k and blow it our in racing. Many families CANNOT gather that amount of money and even if they did, they will most likely have higher priorities.

And I'm talking about western society families! I don't even go third world countries.... I'm sure that there are many capable Asian and South American drivers that won't ever even see a race car let alone drive one.

I think i like Tiff Needell more than Jeremy Clarkson now. Since Tiff seems liek a nicer person and has a racing pedigree.

I find it hard to prefer one over the other - just like I find it hard to choose a favourite show out of top gear and fifth gear.

I like Jeremy Clarkson and Top Gear because they're entertaining and I get to laugh while looking at nice cars. I like Tiff and Fifth Gear because I like watching *good* drivers in, and talking about, nice cars.

Yeh me too. A lot of my friends that aren't interested in cars like Top Gear for the same reason but then Fifth Gear I think is more interesting for people who do like cars and want to see drivers with a racing pedigree testing cars out. Although that's not to say that Top Gear is in anyway bad.

Me too, I think Tiff Needell is more like a really person, Jeremy Clarkson is snobby and full of himself.

I dno't mean to sound like a a** but u realize North America and South America are Wester Socity. Asia would be Eastern. But ne how racing is all about scrafices if u want to go racing you have to make scarafices. when you race u have to make scrafices.

Also to the guy talking bout shchmacers throttle response. The neat thing bout his car is he runs A REAL NARROW gap between just going and full out in his car. I think the guy that rented his car for a year said the gap was maybe a inch.

Fair enough, I didn't write it correctly. What I meant was Indsutrialized countries (I hope there is such a word) opposed to third world countries. You can't say that Venezuela is a rich country can you?

I'm sure that many poor families that can amass 10k will rather spend it improving their house, buying a better car, paying some sort of debt, etc. Than to spend it on racing. You have to make sacrifices, but there are some things that you cannot sacrifice for the sake of racing.

I don't want to patronize anyone, or to be un-polite, but it seems that many members here are still too young to realize how hard life is, and that its really really hard to earn money.

I think if they were both in the Castrol Supras or vice versa then Tiff may have won it seeing as Kazunori San had pole and was in a slightly faster car. From the race footage that was shown despite the crash that Tiff had and him coming second, it seemed to me that he was still better at driving than Kazunori which was most obvious when Tiff made that super smooth and speedy overtaking manouvere through the schicane just before that long last corner.

I have no clue what settings they used, but I just hopped into the Arcade mode Castrol Supra, made no Quick Tune adjustments, ran with TCS on but ASM off and on racing hard tyres.

I did two fast laps only. The second was a 1'26.652, on Fuji 90's.


Edit: I just checked into the fastest laps in the real JGTC. Assuming the 90s circuit was used in 1998, the fastest lap was set by an NSX in round 4 - 1'28.219. So, I guess Kaz wasn't trying.

I suggest you check out this link for a better understanding of the use of "western society" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_society
There is not much of a set definition and western society is definitely not geographically based.

Do you have to complete any sort of racing school before you can race on these tracks? Or do they have like open track days where you can just show up and race?

Given the context and timing of your post, I assumed you replied to Driftster who quoted Kolyana. There was also a tongue emoticon inserted aimed at Kolyana. Try not jumping the gun with me, I'm a nice guy really. :)

Anyway, back on topic, Tiff really impressed. Bar the off track moments he looked like a GT veteran. 👍
