So I decided to try Silvia for the first time - and car is great, from look, being driveable to great sound.

And I smashed my previous best with Viper by 1.2 seconds!

Video of lap:

Currently gold in both TTs!

I been using the viper, trying to get under 2:00 is a tough one for my skills, should be able to get silver though before the end.

You can definitely get on the power earlier and more aggressively. I can see a 56s or even 55s with in with that lap by just getting on the throttle earlier. 2nd last corner (the lefty), turn in a bit early so you don't have to brake or lift too much.
Thanks for the input, but this is not at all a good lap, was my first lap in the morning, just to record the exhaust sound ;) (I should have kept just one part of the lap, not the full lap, would have been clearer ;) )

Away again for a few days, still got bronze for the LeMans TT, still on bronze for the TT TT, and enjoying this Watkins Glenn TT. Took quite a few laps and cars to get under 2 minutes, but made it to 1:59.3xx with the Viper earlier. Closest I've been to silver since my last (and only!) silver so far. 😊 Will enjoy this one.

Just a reminder boys and girls, the new Olympic event is up and it's an easy 2 million.
Done and dusted, easiest and quickest 2M ever (in normal mode).

What car did you choose (you wrote it...) ? I've been able to get to silver fairly easily this time and I think gold is doable with better trajectories.

Sleep said - so long screwie, see you in saint louis - and went on it's merry way.

So since I had some time to kill before work, I went to back to the Glen and gave the silvia a whirl.
Found a good flow and got a few good laps done.

Excellent time. I did some laps in the Silvia and it is a very differnt drive from the 650. Might need to watch some replays.

I can totally see why people like the Silvia. It is so light on its feet! Just enough power to rotate the car without spinning itself arround. I tried a few laps this morning and came out liking it alot....even tho I didn't put in a single complete lap....driving on the right threw me off at the bus stop and getting 1 second penalty every lap 😂

Had a first run in the Jag this morning. Ran 20 laps or so and took a couple of tenths off my McLaren time with a 1:55.189. My optimal in both of those cars (and the Supra) is a 1:54.8 so still some work to do. Haven’t tried the Silvia yet

Edit: went back to the McLaren - first flying lap and took another tenth to get to 1:55.087. First sector was pretty average at 30.807 but otherwise a clean lap

I had a couple of sessions at the Glen last night for the first time in a while. I decided to try the Aston just to get a sense and could only do a 56.2xx. Then I jumped in my Cayman and found some more time.

I’m still needing to optimize the last sector. Watkins Glen is one of my all time favorites and it works well with my driving style. What appears to be the meta car on this one?

Learning the basics of Watkins Glen is completed. I get the general idea.
Into gold by a whisker while doing that so it's a plus.

But it wasn't a nice lap, I gained quarter of a second by only nailing the good line and acceleration out of the last corner.
That Corvette (I love this blue livery) has more to offer and I think I'll stick to it some more to try to get into 55s.

Oh you used the Corvette here? Maybe I should try it, are you using MT or AT here? The first sharp right turn is stalling my time. The middle section can be tricky, I'm missing something here, my time is 1'59.017 so far.

That’s a nice time in the Porsche! Congrats.

I like the Jaguar, easy car to drive with controller, I have tried the Silvia, GT-R, Lamborghini, Ferrari and the Corvette, but my best time of 1:55:948 was with the Jaguar.

Edit.

But the Silvia is the meta.

Silvia is definitely the meta! I love Watkins Glen, I think there was a Race C here when it was introduced and it was a bit of a fuel saver so I had fun tootling around.. the bus stop chicane was always a challenge with a controller for me but god it’s fun with a wheel!

Shame the Silva is so OP, I was way quicker than with my beloved Jaaaaag. Really enjoying this one and it plays it quite well; nice enjoyable track, choice of cars, easy medal for those who just want credits, enough of a challenge still for us idiots who like to keep pushing their PBs to the last 0.001s! I might upload my current lap later but I know there’s loads of time to be had; looks like the first lap will always be slow due to where you start so always put in a first lap before a flyer; anyone else found that? My current PB was set on lap 1 despite being 0.3s down I had a mega middle sector. Goal is 1:53.xxx

TTTsukuba predictably was fun to start but a chore to grind, slidey can be enjoyable but it’s too unpredictable for me to enjoy repeatedly lapping this one. A sub 1:08.500 would be great but I just don’t have the motivation to improve. Also I think resident forum Nokia3310 alien @Gomario JSP is ahead of me on the friendship board and is quite like it to stay that way! So maybe this one can be put to bed. Maybe.

First session at Watkins Glen in the Silvia netted a 1:54.696. I slipped wide in the middle of the carousel and mowed some grass inside turn 10 because I took it too slow and turned in early. Somehow I even lost time in the esses, and not because I had a poor exit from turn 1. :odd: So, as usual there is time to gain. I think a 1:53.x is possible.

The car is nice to drive. It handles well and you're on the gas for a long time, which I guess is typical of the slower speed of Gr.4 cars. Not that there would be any reason to do it other than out of curiosity, but I wonder if you could gold this TT without ever shifting out of 4th gear?

Off to watch some videos. Let's see what track limits I can abuse for my next session! :p

This is so weird with the Silvia! I'm clearly more comfortable driving it...and is faster then the Jag, but for some reason I can't seem to put a lap together with the S15 :confused: I always ended up getting a penalty or bin at the bus stop or I would be 1/2 a second ahead and just brain fart in the last sector 🤣

No feline distraction for me! I just jumped in for 10 minutes pre-F1 qualification and absolutely smashed my PB. I can already see plenty of places to improve here (exciting bus stop chicane exit on this lap!) very enjoyable combo!

Yeah, I'm on automatic transmission with X/O for gas/brake and d-pad for steering, so the bluntest of possible inputs.
Corvette isn't as fast as meta cars, but it's beautiful and it somehow fits Watkins Glen as an american track/car combo.

I've shared my replay of that run in GT7, search with keyword "watkinstt" - it will be probably more useful to you for learning lines and brakings than watching replays of MT/wheel aliens. It wasn't a perfect lap by any means, only the good line and exit out of the last corner made me sneak into gold.

Swapped in my load cell brake pedal this afternoon while watching the F1 qualifying. After some calibration of both the pedal and the driver, I’m really pleased with the results. My average lap time seems to have dropped and my consistency has improved (direct correlation) - whereas my previous fastest time felt like a fluke to some degree and typically my laps were 0.5s or more slower, I’m now able to run closer to that pace for longer. Only found 2 hundredths on the total lap but I’m much more optimistic about stitching it all together and getting into the 54’s.

As an aside since this is both a time trial and a cat thread, we got three new kittens a couple of weeks back, but they are currently upstairs and away from the rig!

For AT drivers, I’d be inclined to avoid the McLaren since the optimal shift point is way before max revs. The Jag would suit though 👍

I’m a beginner and I know I have much to learn, but I was wondering g if you could take a look at my lap and pick out the 1 or 2 things you think I should prioritize and work on in order to improve.

The car has a lot of grip, so you can carry more speed through the corners. Part of that involves getting on the gas sooner so you use all the available tarmac on exit. You're leaving a lot of space out there. Also, no need to lift in the esses. Blast through those bad boys at full speed! :D

Just a reminder boys and girls, the new Olympic event is up and it's an easy 2 million.
You have until July 1st to complete
🤔 Is it 2 millions or 1 million? I think I got 1 million for silver when I tried it first, so now I am confused. Could it be I got 1 for silver and then reward numbers changed after that? I just got gold and 1 million, so it is 2 I would guess in total and could it be reward money is changing depending on first finish?
( It is a bit off topic so my apologies to Admin and all others but I don't know how to reply on post and post it in some other thread? )

I think you are shifting too early, you can rev the Silvia much more, no need to use 6th gear on the straight for example.

General tip - always turn all the info (gears, throttle/brake input) on replays. Pay attention to braking points, trail braking, gears used and where you can start accelerating. This gives you a lot of information on where you can optimize your lap. You can start by watching the top time, choosing 2-3 corners to improve and practice them for a couple of laps to make it easier.

That's a nice improvement you got there mate!, im loosing a lot of time in the last sector on you, great lap!, and yes.... by all means.....stop the Tsukuba now, and let me win this time 🤣🤣..... but fair is fair, that was quite a descent lap from Mr Nokia 🤣🤣

That's gold right there, furry bastards!, you gotta love them, I did my PB below with one on my lap 🤣
Being consistent is the key for me, once you are you can experiment with lines and breakpoints and move up in the world 😁

Most things have been said indeed, maby you find my lap helpful, check the breakingpoints and mostly throttle input, the sooner the better, you can realy pull out corners on throttle if your apex is on point, ( not all apexes were on my lap, but still a descent third stint with 1:54.294 )

Still don't understand the TL's on the busstop, sometimes swear I'm ok but still get a penalty and sometimes you absolutely abuse it and you are fine 🤣

Great track, great car, great combo!

I think that’s a great lap! Very smooth and clean, in real life this is exactly how a good sensible driver would lap on a track day. Having the HUD data on the replay is helpful to see exactly where you can make improvements and where you are losing the most time. As resident forum alien @Dolph Drago and others have said, you’re very conservative with your lines, acceleration etc which is great but you can be far braver throwing this car round, shift later, get on the gas earlier.. it’s a computer game, there’s no risk!

If you aren’t already, watch lap guides before starting as they will give you a great foundation to start with and it’s easy to pick up techniques/habits from them which instantly make you faster. @Mistah_MCA
Makes Okay-ish ones so I recommend them highly (and they are more than Okay, they are great and I love you Mistah!!), watch the fastest drivers’ replays too and use their ghost for guidance on the track; I have the ghost set to reset each sector and it’s great for finding corners you lose the most time on especially at long tracks.

If you aren’t already, look at avoiding all assists if possible, use MT instead of AT, study shift points for the car you’re using, use bumper cam for maximum control, have FUN! I think your lap was really tidy and I enjoyed watching it, time to just turn everything up to the max now 😎

Super fast lap already my friend! You are most definitely an alien banging in these times on your Nokia! I cannot promise ANYTHING because I am a menace but I’m not sure I could beat your TTTsukuba time anyway 😄😄
