I somehow dipped into 11s at Tsukuba, potentially looking at a PB for TTs here. If you’re struggling, make sure you hold onto each gear until you’re at the rec limiter, don’t just shift up when the blue light starts flashing - I found about a second at that point

So I didn't time trial today, but I did do a thing related.

This has been on the list for a long time. Knocked it out. I also am proud to say that in the sector for the carousel I'm top of my friend's list for time. And a few of you make me feel pretty slow most times. 😂😂🔥🔥

@Gogga congrats dude. I hope yours is as good as mine has been! 🍻🍻🍻

Excellent with the Nordschleife full lap 👌
I will attempt to dethrone you at the carousel 🤣

Thanks mate!!
Really appreciate you for answering all the million questions I have with regards to a DD setup.

Hi Ian,

Yes, there are curves and there are a couple of things I publish that might help. They look very different for different tracks and cars, with somewhere like Tsukuba giving you quite a lot of places for little time gained (short track and condensed field), while somewhere like Le Mans giving you very few for similar time gained (long track, spread out field).

The first thing I publish is this graph after each event. Here is an example from the recent Brands Hatch TT.

The blue line shows the number of people at each time (time is down the horizontal x-axis), here split by 0.1 second increments and you can read the number off the right hand hand side (the one that goes from 0 to 3,500). The red line shows how many drivers are under a certain time. It is obviously not fine enough to read detail off, but for example if you follow the 100,000 line from the left y-axis to where it crosses the red line, you'll see it is around 1:52.662. That means 100,000 drivers were under that time. If you were 0.6 seconds quicker, so 1:51.062, then there were about 70,000 under that time, so you would have made up 30,000 places.

But as I mentioned, this graph is less for that and you can't read detail off it, and more about showing the spread with the blue line, and particularly those spikes you see before the gold and silver thresholds, where people made the effort to just get on the right side of the line.

Another way to get an idea of how many places you'll gain by improving by a certain time, is when I do the weekly interim updates. Here is the one I did on Thursday for Tsukuba. Say you were on 1:16.0 you can see there are 121,687 drivers around that time. If you moved to 1:15.5, you can see 116,242 drivers there. So you will gain just over 5,000 places if you can 0.5 seconds.

If you improved from 1:15.0 (108,265) to 1:14.5 (96,497), you'd gain almost 12,000 places.

Using your time gains - remember this data was from last Thursday so will have changed - we can see it more or less matches:
1:12.3 was around 5,597th at the time.
1:12.06 was around 3,000th (somewhere between 1:12.135 and 1:12.035)

I know that is not a perfect answer, but hopefully gives you some insight. Feel free to ask if you have more questions.
Hi,

Many many thanks for that. That explains things perfectly! I did wonder about the "compression" of results and the link to the length of time taken to complete 1 lap. It makes sense now.

Now all I have to do is reach a 1:11:xxx and my day will be delightful!

Thanks again.

Best regards to all here.

Ian.

After a million and one conversations with @330_D, I finally took the plunge 😁
My journey down this rabbit hole has just gotten deeper.

One more alien !!! pffffff 🤣🤣🤣. You will see the difference is enormous with a G29. I'm happy for you that you found help with your settings. I'm still struggling a little but I will eventually find it.
I would like to have your opinion on this McLaren steering wheel because I am hesitant to buy it having the GT DD Pro, please sir.
Those optimals are looking sweet.
As it stands, this is my highest placement to date.

Bravo my friend for your excellent time !!!!👏👏👏

A bit late to the party on this one as the McLaren F1 GTR is my all-time favourite Race Car. Learnt about it back in 2001 when it surprisingly won the final round of the JGTC (now SuperGT) season and remained the last non-Japanese car to achieve such feat.

Back to this TT, I actually managed to Gold in my first valid lap with a 3:41, and then 3:40.6 in my 2nd lap despite Le Mans not being my strongest circuit. Then of course I spent the next 3 hours stuck at 3:40, either messing up the final chicane that has the habit of sending me sideways whenever I had a good lap, or the Porsche curves which I don't really understand (and still don't).

Here is my best effort at 3:39.4. Not spectacular but hopefully not too shebby.

The struggle is real!

IMG_8207.jpeg

Come back to LM a few days later and the gold time has moved by about a second. :grumpy:

Currently I’m quicker with TCS2. I tried 1 but I’m 2s slower per lap. TCS2 offsets/smooths out my lead foot for the peaky engine.

What killed me tonight was all the invalidated laps until I figured out you can’t use the full road because if you cross the white dashed line with all wheels, it’s game over. Talk about tight and non obvious track limits. It would be helpful if there was a briefing card that told you such things before you started.

Thank you. I absolutely love Tsukuba. Can drive it with my eyes closed 😄

I will definitely tell you what I think of the McLaren wheel once I use it a bit more. Only have tested it out for a few laps using the clutch pedals as brake and accelerator and I already love it but it will take me some time to get used to it coming from a round wheel.

Will keep you posted.

Edit: I'm also very lost with the settings. I will play around with it and will also hopefully find it soon.

Nooo! I don't think i can motivate myself to go back...

Dragged myself to Le Mans this morning in the hope I would get my GT7 Time trial Mojo back but that's still gone, after a few laps I just loose interest and then the focus just is off, le Mans isn't that easy for me and most of the time that is my trigger to get better and push, maby it will reapear in the next couple of days ?..

That said, after a few laps/restarts/yelling at the invalidations I bettered my 40.0 with 39.3-ish... totally stuffed up the Porsche curves tho but had descent first sectors.
Putting the power down out of the slower 2nd gear corners Mulsanne and Arnage seem to be lapkillers for me with some 180's or to much rear end dancing there...
Porsche curves are a hit or miss still....most are miss tho 🤣 but the last two chicanes went better than yesterday..... that all combined still got me a progress om 0.7 seconds today 🤣🤣

That F1 is beautiful tho!

Lap replay saved in showcase btw

Tsukuba I haven't touched anymore, kicked out of the top 100 but completely fine with that 🤣

Have a good weekend folks

No you can't Gogga!

But now I understand what I saw last time at Tsukuba with Gogga in his RE Amemiya RX-7.
It was a nightmare! No driving line! Too hard steering inputs resulting not in speed but just smoke. The lap time must have been terrible.

No excuses! Here is the proof:

So, better to try again with your eyes open my friend 😜

Tried LM on friday.. tons of invalidated laps that were around 1s better than my pb. Got frustrated, stopped playing. Tried LM yesterday, as it was my last opportunity. Surprised when I saw that I'm only 0.8s into gold. Couldn't even get within 1s of my pb.. then I overdrived the car and invalidated everything along the way. Hope the time sticks.

Edit: spellcheck

This Le Mans trial is killing me bad. I'm really getting pissed off here. I have not scored a decent lap yet. The car is so fast and the turning is not that great. This is not one of my favorite TT's. I know this will be a bronze for me.

Noted 😆
@Gogga do we need to start our own weekly sideways TT's 😉 see what the next one brings.

I know the F1 likes to go sideways (...and then backwards 😂) but not sure that I could even bronze that one sideways 🤣

Would love some sideways weekly events. I really miss those from GT5 and 6.
If there is one thing on my wishlist, it's for those to return. Unpopular opinion I know.

Maybe we should start our own. I still owe @Gorefast some tandem action in a private lobby but I've been so so busy lately that I haven't had a chance. It's still on the cards to happen soon. You are more than welcome to join us when we do get down to doing it. The more the merrier.

Have yet to drive the McLaren at de la Sarthe. Looking forward to it. When time permits I will eventually get down to it.

Hello everyone, I am back from a 7-day stay in the Emergency Room, I was taken there May 28th around 4pm. I had a blood vessel rupture on my left ankle, it stung, burned and itched a lot. The nurses and doctors took good care of me, they gave me antibiotics. I have had to be on a strict schedule this past 9 days, I will be back this weekend. Tomorrow is my last day, hooray.

I have truly missed gt7, so what's been going on lately? I had a rough time in the ER, I've lost quite a bit of sleep. I am so glad to be back home and on my cozy couch.

What is the new TT now, I haven't even looked yet.
@Chris30, wow, that sounds like quite the ordeal! Glad you're back now, and hope you're feeling better. Seems like you're back on the track, so that's good to hear!

Meanwhile, I had a couple of days away from GT7 after spending far too much time chasing Nordschleife glory the past 2 weeks, and had a family HS graduation to attend.

Got back at it yesterday and ran a stint at Tsukuba and a couple at LeMans.

Unlike @Gogga, I'm not a big fan of Tsukuba and chasing tenths, so I'll probably be done with that TT and see how far I can push my skills on LeMans. As others have stated, I really enjoy the McLaren, and there's plenty of room to improve there.

If I'm also free at the time I'd be happy to join, haven't been in a drift lobby for a long time

Hi,

I think that I may have reached my "skill ceiling" at Tsukuba now. Despite many many laps, I cannot get the darned thing into the 11's. Another 3 days to get there, but I am not holding my breath.

I have steered well clear of the Nurburgring and Le Sarthe... Until today! I finally managed to complete all of the "Event Directory" this afternoon. My last event was the 10 laps at Le Sarthe. Hmmmm! I may just to dip a toe into this one. I like the circuit and the car.

Best regards to all here.

Ian.

Safe. Not at all inspired by this trial so a safe gold is all it will be.

I find that gravity continues to pull me to the Ring in my moments to play. Never thought I would enjoy the track like I do these days and it's so big and there is so much to explore. At least until we get a new TT... 🍻

@Gogga it was fun competing with you. I see your ascension is in progress though. Maybe you can give me some tips to find that next level...👾😁😁😁

Nah bro, we will still be chasing each other as always on that leaderboard 🔥
DD just adds to the immersion and some sore arms 🤣

The Ring is one of the best tracks to get lost in and hotlap. Can't wait for the next time trial at the Green Hell. It will always be epic, even if its in a Fiat 500!

Did 12 laps back to back....minor improvement but seem to be more consistent getting into the 3:38s. Optinmal was 3:38 flat...I think I can get to the low 38s....not 100% sure about 37s

I'm glad you got it. This TT is pissing me off bad. So bad I may not even post a time and just leave it. I know I'll have 10 days, but realistically can I even get in the silver club? I'm doing better at Tsukuba, I got a time in the mid 1'13.000's after only 10 laps. So I may stick with that one for now. I just got out of the ER Tuesday. Any stress that hurts me can be eliminated, so if I have to skip the Le Mans one then so be it.

Can i use your ghost?
