After doing a 2:20,572 with the Elantra yesterday (with a "slow" S1 and a understeery final corner), i said to myself "a .4 and i'll be happy"...

View attachment 1483959

...am i happy now? Hell Noo 🤬😂😂

The whole lap was really good except for one corner, but this one corner was so bad that i can't be happy with this. 🥲🤪
Please dont tell me it was the final corner!

However, I'm trying to get a fast lap in a Porsche 918 Spyder around the Nürburgring.

It feels almost impossible. The game has changed a lot or something, I don't know.
Sorry I confused with the 919 😅 not sure I've ever tried the 918 on the Nordschleife.

Just managed this, oh man that chicane 😂

I'm still playing some Gran Turismo, after all those years.

However, I'm trying to get a fast lap in a Porsche 918 Spyder around the Nürburgring.

It feels almost impossible. The game has changed a lot or something, I don't know.

Eventually managed to get in 1 clean lap. However it's just above the 7 minute mark. I know I did a sub 7 time, but haven't saved the replay to confirm it was clean.

That means I have got to try to get a (confirmed) clean lap in, sub 7.

What are your experiences with a car like this?? And especially on the Nürburgring?

Is it too fast, perhaps?
I like this car, it is very nice on the Nordschleife. Don't remember my lap times though.
Sorry I confused with the 919 😅 not sure I've ever tried the 918 on the Nordschleife.
What's the link here with the current Gran Turismo 7 Online Time Trial events?

Hey folks - hope everyone is doing well. Been offline for the last 3wks while we went back to the UK to renew our H1/H4 visas - great timing for those that follow the news on these things 🤣 but all went without a hitch and landed back in LAX last night.

Jet lag being what it is, I was awake at 4am this morning so 'granted' myself a little bit of track time before turning on the work laptop. After collecting Cr.8m in winnings(!) I jumped into the Opel, figuring it would be the tougher of thee two events ending tomorrow. Got the hang of it after a few laps though, but it's not a pleasurable experience and so got to target (by 0.001s) and called it a day.

Moved over the the 'Ring and enjoyed 20 laps over two runs in the Hyundai. In gold on the second lap (first was dirty) and got down to a competitive time quite quickly - think I'll run this one again before the end as there's still a few tenths on the table. Decent start though.

Still one tenth in OPT but I think I have higher chance to win jackpot on lottery than to stich all best sectors inclusive that one tenth.

Regardless, pretty happy with time especially how tricky this one is on motion control / gyro.

Finally safely in gold at Mount Panorama. Optimum is a 15.9 again after 10 laps which is why I might even come back and try to get into the 15s.

Had some nice exits out of the Cutting and Forest's Elbow and also made it through Skyline/Esses and Dipper pretty smoothly. My nemesis is still T1. My exit there is always abysmal.

This combo is a lot of fun and perfect for my skill level. It is a challenge but at the same time it never feels hopeless.

The Opel is very close at 2.89% but it's just no fun on the pad. I won't be back even if I drop into silver. I expect some last minute magic from L-Shooter anyways.

Awful pay2participate. Really expecting some more internal proper testing and QA going forward. In a relatively short time span we've had three TT’s where pad drivers basically are third class citizens. What’s going on, man?

Also terrible decision making on my part. Had that time after 90 kms and kept driving for way too long. Sure, a ~.5 was there but really, what’s the point? Why push for something meh when we’re basically not part of the competition? I knew it was really stupid yet kept driving. Could’ve moved over to the Elantra where there’s actually a chance, could’ve played another game, could’ve watched a film, could’ve listened to several albums. Complete waste of time and total regret. Hope I learn something from it. :banghead:

yeah... i noticed this.... .868, seriously?
you are supposed to do a .9xx first, that's what keep friendships alive, this.... is tricky
Well done mate, this made me smile at 6 AM this morning, you gotta be the fastest motion man in the world again ?

The pain of the tenth is there, one laps i have trouble getting sub 21, next laps i'm .734 invalidated by the bollard..
Love hate relationship here :lol: ( but only hate towards the bollards though )

Great job bud!,

@NAXEHT yeah the Opel was worse that the Corvette imo, you will be a little happier with the Elantra though, i have the feeling that one is not going to be to shaaabbyy at all for you  ;);):):)

I give up on the Corsa VGT.
Did another 250km+ making my total to nearly 600km and still NO GOLD..
Improved from a 1:08.421 to a 1:08.377

5% of the laps I restart before even crossing the line, being unhappy with how I take the S-turn.
15% of the laps I invalidate in T1. - restart
15% of the laps I invalidate in T2-T3. - restart
35% of the laps I abandon after T2-T3 being to slow - restart
28% of the laps I abandon after T5, seeing my split is +24.8s - restart
The 2% that I get on with I probably lose another half from at the S-turn in S3.
1% remaining was enough to improve once to said time....

PITA this TT :banghead:

Got a decent time at the ring, so Bathurst here I come...

What do you expect PD to do? There is just a fundamental difference between controlling a car with the tiny stick on a gamepad and an actual steering wheel + pedals. They are not going to 'fix' that in a million years. It is probably a miracle in itself that the difference in performance is this small to begin with. Also gamepad users might actually have the advantage with rallying. It is what it is.

I guess the solution could be to add more levels to pad sensitivity. The smoothing of the wheel rotation is still much for these insane cars like the Corvette VGT even on the max setting of 10.

You can nicely see this effect in cockpit cam. The top replays at the Corsa TT yank the wheel all the way to the right in nearly an instant through T1 whereas on the controller this animation takes a long time. Like grandpa pulling into a parking lot.

I recently watched a video on the new iracing NASCAR game. A real NASCAR driver tested it on an Xbox controller. Wheel turn was super twitchy because there was nearly no lag or smoothing after moving the stick. This looked like it may not really be that great especially when oval racing but this is what would be needed for these TTs to be viable on the pad.

I agree however that generally I really like Gran Turismo's feel on the pad. They did a pretty good job.

I know it is difficult to expect perfect steering on controllers too, in all scenarios and all ways of steering (joystick, buttons, motion control..) but what I would wish for is actually to give us settings to control "interpolation", or "in-betweens", or however is the english word for it. I mean to achieve 1:1 ratio if end user want it.

Check in my example here under, watch the video, second 40-45 -ish when I am passing chicane, especially second part of chicane when I need to pass last bollard, so as you can see in lower part of video, which shows both my hands, and steering wheel in the car, I rotated my hands....aaaand... aaand.. there is proper delay ( I mean proper in hundreds(tenths) of seconds, that is what we are chasing here) until steering wheel in the car reach position of my hands.

THAT is what I wish for. And not only on steering but on acceleration too. I do compare video replays and I when I compare a replay from someone on wheel/pedals vs controller, you can floor pedal and it will reach 100% as soon as your foot press it all the way, while when I press accelerate button, R2, it has small delay of "in-betweens" or something like traction control, until my acceleration reach 100% and in some cases it is not so noticeable but in some it is and it cost controller users time.

So my wish, hand out "interpolation" settings to users so we can adjust that.

Look for this part of video, see below, video link is at the bottom.

Special Gran Turismo and gtplanet lore bonus, the day controller sensitivity was added because the Vettel Red Bull X1 Challenge was literally impossible on the pad:

Unless you're @Tidgney of course:

Coincidentally this whole saga also compelled him to get a capture card with his gold time there being his first ever Gran Turismo video on his channel:

The proper sims that don't smooth out the controller inputs are basically undrivable with a controller right? So if you took that away in Gran Turismo you might actually be worse off.

I'm kinda late to the party with regards to the just-expired TTs, but it did occur to me that they were two of the most frustrating examples for non-racing reasons...

Corsa VGT: that dang overtake battery. As if it's not hard enough nailing your best lap, you have to make the right decision as to when to activate it and not bin it otherwise it's back to the pause menu for you!

Elantra at NGP: not about the car per se, but I always get bitten starting before the chicane. Passing the line only to find out I've invalidated my lap before it even started. Then I come around at the end of lap 1 and see that I've triggered a track limit violation again, but I can't see exactly when I did it because my clock was already in red. Why do the limits have to differ so much from other game modes?

All this pausing and hitting restart in both cases completely prevented me from getting into a groove, or really enjoying myself.

That took so long to do that haha! Great memory though I think my biggest ever adrenalina shot I've ever had from gaming, nothing has come close to that one.

I hope this thread remains focused on the "official" online TT events (as it basically seems to have always been). I don't really want to have to start scrolling through pages of people posting their times in whatever private event they feel like with whatever parameters they've concocted...

[but, I also wouldn't mind if there was a set of threads (one devoted to each track) where people could discuss and post their top times...]

Generally speaking, Gran Turismo really is great on the controller. It absolutely is. What’s somewhat concerning is that we’ve had three TT’s pretty close to each other now very recently where you’re basically not even participating on pad, the three I mentioned in my earlier message. Well, a bit of testing every now and then to make sure both peripherals match on a one hot lap pace. I can accept losing out in races on suffering heavier tyre wear even if it sucks but one lap pace is a different thing, that should be pretty much equal (and has been for most of the time).

I mean, the Mustang that’s up right now is the 170th TT and throughout all these years going back to ’22 when we started there was really only one in the past where controller couldn’t match wheel and that was with the AMUSE NISMO 380RS Super Leggera at BB Raceway, that weird half oval where we couldn’t input as much steering and lost a few tenths despite going full steer. Apart from that controller has been fine in all the others so it’s not really a fundamental issue like that. Could be something with the latest iteration of the physics, in particular in angled corners and kerbs. Had it been that fundamentally different it would’ve been clearly notable earlier on in the past years.

Ok ok ok, I said above in an earlier post I will not post "my" offline TT runs....
