Does anyone else think that just trying to place in the top 100/50/5 is funner than racing against the AI or online? To me its also relaxing and a nice break not having to fuss with set ups/quick tunes as they are not allowed.

Thanks in advance.

I think so as well, but online will be fun once Private racing kicks in.
I was doing more Time Trial then any other racing. Yes really relaxing, I Put recommended tire list to a car and drive it and see what a car can do as it would in real life. :)

It all depends on the online events. Right now, I'll be spending most of my time doing TTs. In between working on the GTP qualifier, I started doing TTs on Suzuka with every car starting with the lowest HP. I haven't gotten very far yet but it's fun and relaxing for me.

I'm right there with you. You feel the car more.

Online is still more intense, but laptimes are great as well. You might not be putting your best foot forward online as well due to punters.

Yea I got to like 51st place in the london TT this weekend, then when I started up the ps3 again now I'm like 166th or something. Gotta get faster.

yes, but one of your accounts lost a position at Eiger Nordwand. :p

and yes, sometimes i like hotlaping, it can be very interesting. 👍

and beat PoSiTiOnOnx*-+🤬

just wait till our japan friends will start to race. :nervous:

look to the last Eiger 600PP. i spent there a lot, noooo, aaa looot of time and what was my position at least.

sometimes i race also online @ the japans servers, just great and most of the time to fast for me. :dunce: 👍

Time trial is ALL I do. I'm one of those people who spends years trying to shave a tenth-of-a-second off their last lap. Racing against other cars just bugs me, they just get in my way (In all racing games).

If you ever want to get into a top ten time easily. Choose a ****ty car that nobody likes. I guarante that you will get into a top ten within an hour :p

I basically just do arcade mode time trials at the moment, working my way through Fuji F in all the cars. But once private rooms come in i'll be real keen on some proper online racing

That's exactly why Time Attack is all the rage in the real world tuning industry. It's just you and your machine, no excuses. Mastering Time Attack puts you in a good position to be a good racer anyway. A good Time Attack driver would do well in a race with others, not so sure about vice versa.

Makes you appreciate how much a tenth of a second is worth.

First and foremost:

More fun.

Secondly, late at night when the competition is slim, it's easier to hook up with a couple of really good drivers. Races with 2/3/4 good drivers are much more exciting than races against the clock.

Amen, I think it was on Daytona Speedway with either my Integra or my Jaguar XK. I went from 115 to 25th place on the specific car rankings by shaving off about 0.150 seconds. My numbers might be slightly off but it was a very slim margin, definitely under 0.200 seconds...

I've actually being doing timetrial since the last roatation of online event since well lets face it the last rotation was crap!

Started with lowest PP car on high speed ring and have done a bit more than half the cars now.

All I hate is if you get a first within 2 days the guys you just beat will beat you!!! But its fun.

I fully enjoy the hotlapping at Suzuka no doubt about it, and it sure does help you really learn the tracks' fastest lines, but nothing gives the adrenalin rush of a full on race where you have to hold it together for the full 5 laps or whatever.

More relaxing? Time trial? Are you serious? Spending hours on end to improve by 0.1sec? That's my idea of hell, but you get obsessed and do it anyway.

No, I wouldn't say it's more fun. I prefer doing hotlaps in sims that have more realistic physics than Gran Turismo. I think GT5P's strength is intense online races. Once we get private rooms, it will be even better.

I like better racing VS, simply because its a bit of a pain, but it also keeps me on my toes all the time and teaches me to avoid or deal with other people on the track.

I see too much "perfect driving" in videogames because players "power lap" all the time and complain when two cars actually touch... they aren't used to regaining control of their cars when spinning out or some other reasons... and that's part of racing and being a good driver.

Time trials are the very best way to learn a track without the chance of "beaning" someone, I myself do it frequently ( different pp cars ) to learn the inside ,outside ,highside , lowside , what ever your terminology is. We all know that in online racing you just don't get the racing line you want , so you have to compromise and take an alternate line around the track. If you can race around the track in the un-preferred line cleanly , you will become a better racer. Using the ghost replay ( pretending it is a competitor ) will help you .

I probably like time trials and racing equally. I get more of a buzz from racing, but for the time being TTs are the only way I'm getting to drive some of the more diverse cars as only a few are really competitive in the racing.

I use Arcade to practice tracks. Use the driving line to start with and then turn it off once you've learned the track. I tend to find that the driving line puts me off in actual online races because people brake on turns differently, so I gauge my braking and acceleration on others reactions.

I mostly do TT and seldom race online. The great thing about Arcade TT (as oppose to Online TT which lately has been PP based with no tire restrictions) is that S2 is the max tire allowed. This gives the cars, the closest to real world performance as oppose to just being fast. Most of the times I would even use Normal tires(N1-N3). I have had a few gratifying online races but those are so few and in between. Hopefully when PD got their s**t together and gives use private room, or at least longer races with S2-S3 tires restrictions, then it might pique my interest. And with the August 1st update, the AI opponents have become faster and competitive that I'd rather do an Arcade Race (15-30 laps) than racing online.

Same here. I think the arcade AI is smarter than a lot of online racers, which is why I gave online up until we get the bumper car stuff sorted out.

I've mostly given up on online racing as well until the penalties get a bit harsher and eiger / london come back.

Competing against the clock can get really boring by yourself though, I don't suppose theres a GTP irc channel or something? I haven't seen one mentioned.

I was playing online tonight and the online racers weren't too bad. However, they cut down a bunch of the events, and on top of that, the really dirty drivers can really spoil the fun of online races. Can't wait for private lobbies.
