Time Trials funner than Racing vs.

If it wasn't for time trials, I wouldn't have ever touched GT5P.

I would never touch GT2,3,4, and 5. (never play GT1 since it was arcade ;)
But is GT series first game that TIME TRIAL was really fun? I bet other racing games did had TIME trial before it, but no one really bother to do TT's untill GT series came along.

GT3 was great for taking your memory card to a friends place and loading your garage into his game and racing split screen mode. Had some real laughs with that. Hopefully GT5 will have that included via removable memory device.

I think you can copy Save date into the USB, but I do not think you can split screen both save data at same time.

No you can't in GT5p, but GT3 you could carry your entire garage around on a MagicGate 8MB memory card and put it into the second slot of your mates PS2 and use your garage in split screen mode.

As much as i like doing time trials you carn't beat the thrill of racing for me, i can understand why people put alot of time into them but i find myself losing interest fairly quickly, i try to do both in the hope it'll improve my all round game :).

Time Trials are great fun, they allow you to hone your skills away from the manic atmosphere of a live race and more often than not, they really slap you down and give you a solid "you're not THAT good" message, hehe.

But there are two different mindsets involved in the two disciplines. Rarely is there a guy who's brilliant at hotlapping and racing online. Sure there are a few out there, but I think they're the exception, not the rule, hehe!

👍

Hotlapping would be 1/3 of racing in my opinion, the other 2/3's being composed of overtaking and defending. Being a good hotlapper wil set you up well to catch an opponent or to stay in front when you've gained the lead but, without a bit of 'down and dirty' online action under your belt you're going to be in for a big surprise when you swap the number 1 TT slot for the back of a packed grid :sly:

Racing is all I do. However racing in Gran Turismo, that's a whole other matter. Once GT gets proper racing modes (good AI and good online modes), if it ever gets it at all, then people will see the light.

You could do it in GT4 too, so I am sure it will be included.

I would love a ranking like gplrank. With benchmark times on each car/track. That is when TT gets real intresting.

Hmm bye the way. Hi all

Time trials is all i really do.

Online is way off the mark at the moment, but theres hope yet.

The A,B,C,and S class one player event dont entertain at all. A.I needs work plus im so fed up with this age old scenario of starting at the back of the grid on a rolling lap and working your way to front. Come on PD i want to race in a race of racing cars not driving through a field of vehicles driven by mums on the school run.

Shaving 100'ths of a lap time and working up the top 100 leaderboard is for me a far more rewarding experience than competing against others be it A.I or online. Fingers crossed it wont all ways be like this. Im sure Prolgue Spec 17 might deliver the goods.

Since I have a new wheel and have to start learning how to drive all over, I'll stick to free runs and time trial for a while, at least with the wheel. With Sixaxis I'll probably jump online every now and then.

Sure GT4 was great for that aswell. I remember a friend of mine was busting his nuts to try and win the special F1 looking car in one of the special event missions, it was white with massive fat tyres on the rear, can't remember the exact name of the car now. anyway, I put my memory card into he's PS2 and transfered that car into he's garage to save him the pain of trying to win it :)

TTs are good for making you crazy.

The first 10 - 15 laps are fun as you figure out the best racing line & braking points for that particular car & watch your times go down significantly. After that, it gets a bit questionable: endless repetition as you try & shave off a tenth here & a hundredth there - that's not so much fun IMO.

The most time I have spent on a TT in GT5P was for the recent Eiger 600PP where I spent a total of about 3-4 hours over a few nights. I was still well off the pace of the fastest GTPers & it was starting to be not much fun. Then I read the post where Rudi confessed to having spent over 30 hours on that TT - at that point I just gave up!

Subsequently, Rudi's best time was blitzed by a whole crew of Japanese, who, I can only assume, spent as much or more time on it as him.

I think the guys who put down the fastest TTs are also, for the most part, the fastest racers, but there's no doubt in my mind, that (even with the online problems) racing is more fun because of the variability of the races & the "social" aspect of meeting up with racers online. 👍

Toyota 7

Anyway, I personally enjoy physical racing more than time trials, I'd say skill lies mainly in racing rather than hotlapping because of this.
I'd probably agree with several here that time trial is the only place some cars get used especially as the current online setup puts many cars at a disadvantage or doesn't provide any equal competition for them. Thats not really something that affects how much I enjoy time trials overall though (when thinking of games in general) because I'm sure that problem will be solved with private rooms where we can have organised one-make races and such.

Anyway, I see time trials and hotlapping as a necessary tool for me to improve my driving overall rather than as a seperate thing to do instead of race. I basically look at it as practicing and qualifying style stuff which in turn helps me with racing.
However, I do enjoy competitive time trialing and hotlapping in the sense of Rally-style stages, as I did enjoy playing several Rally games out there, I know I don't need to have the physical opponents there for me to enjoy myself.

Having thought about it, I probably enjoy both equally but spend more time racing than I do hotlapping. Spending vast amounts of time hotlapping becomes frustrating and stressful after an hour for me whereas I could race for days without getting bored.

Formula Gran Turismo

I think your refering to the Formula Gran Turismo 04 (F1 car) that is unlocked by clearing Formula GT World.

The Toyota 7 is unlocked by clearing mission 25-29 in the mission hall.

Right you referenced a Formula 1 looking car in GT4. The Toyota 7 looks nothing like an F1 car though.

I'm correct in my reference to it being a Formula 1 looking car. Which other car in GT4 would you suggest it looks like.

I remember you from another thread wanting to cause an argument.

I suggest you stick to your school playground for your petty squabbles.

I'm not trying to start a petty squabble, I just call a spade a spade.

Formula 1 = open wheel race cars...

The Toyota 7 is an open cockpit sports car class racer. It has fenders.

I do apologize for not reading your first post that I replied to as thoroughly as I should have, I would have caught the bit about the Special Missions.

The question was what it looked like compared to other cars in GT4. Now if you can give me an example of what the Toyota 7 looks like other than a F1 type looking car, by all means enlighten me.

It certainly resembles the build of a F1 looking car more than it does any other car in GT4.

How is that possible? It has fenders... There's never been a single Formula 1 car in the entire 50 or so year history of the sport that has been built with fenders. How can a sports car resemble an open wheel formula car?

It looks closer to an open cockpit Porsche 917 than anything from F1....ever.

The subject is GT4. Is there an open cockpit Porsche in GT4... er, well no there isn't, so it has no relevance to cars in GT4. Once again is there a car in GT4 that closely resembles a F1 type looking car in GT4 other than the Toyota 7. No there isn't, thats why you keep avoiding the real question with your evasive answers.

EDIT: This freeking guy. I never said it didn't have fenders. The Toyota 7 resembles a F1 type looking car more than any other type of car in GT4, simply because it is the only other open cockpit high performance car in the game.

The Audi R8 looks more like the Toyota 7 than an F1 car. Would you say that the Formula Gran Turismo looks like the Toyota 7 because the Formula Gran Turismo is the only 'Formula 1' car in GT4 and that's just a PD concept. That car while on the subject of the Formula Gran Turismo, looks a lot like the Ferrari F2004 (a real F1 car).

But whatever, if that's what you think, that's fine. This has gone waaay OT and I'm done trying to talk to someone that thinks a car with body work covering the tyres looks anything remotely close to any car built in the entire history of Formula 1.

TOOL. You STILL haven't answered the simple question of what other car in GT4 remotely resembles a F1 car. I never at any stage said it was a F1 car.
Answer the question which car in GT4 remotely resembles a F1 car

So now you're resorting to name calling (real mature)... If you read my previous post... I just told you. The Formula Gran Turismo. It resembles the Ferrari F2004 which is a real Formula 1 car. It is the ONLY car in the game that remotely resembles a Formula 1 car. Get it?

Can I get a witness?

That's enough.
Disagreements are fine. Not everyone shares the same viewpoint here, but you do not get abusive while trying to prove a point.

Get back on topic and take the petty squabbling outside of this site.

I said other than the PDF1 car

What do you want a witness to? How much of a tool you are.
