Here are a few tips for starters, I know a lot of us have played the previous GT series, but since there are some variations (i would like to call it improvments), so here are some tips for GT4 gamers:

1. Do not buy a car at the beginning. Go do the license tests first, and you will earn prize cars even if you only get bronzes. One of the prize car is a Nismo 270R (Nismo-tuned Silvia), and that will let you win plenty of races.

2. Enter as much races as possible with your prize cars, you can get VERY VERY far into the game without spending a penny.

3. Recommendation for those who wants a powerful car in the beginning: Go to the special condition hall and enter one of the first two races with the Nismo 270R, you can easily win a 760 bhp Cadillac Cien.

Good idea Ducati 👍

Anybody else who has tips for beginners, please feel free to add them.:)

the 270R should be fast enough to win All Japan GT cup that gives the 350Z LM. winning that race a couple of times, should yeild enough money to buy alot of the cars in the game

All Japan GT? You mean the JGTC? 270R only has 272 bhp..... those JGTC cars all puts out about 500 bhp + way better power to weight ratio.

B-Spec Mode (Taken from your other thread)

First get a Toyota Minolta 88C-V race car '89, put a turbo kit on it (so you will end up with 1200+ bhp), then put R3 tires in the front and R1 tires in the Back. Then go into the race in b-spec mode.

Set the pace to "2" and "pass cars", then you can go ahead and go to sleep or whatever you wish to do, come back in the destinated time and you will end up with money and prize.

A little tip on the tire settings: MR cars ALWAYS wear out the rear tires a lot faster, so make sure you get set up the tires accordingly for the endurance:
Front/Back: R1/R3 or S1/S2

Ducati999, that's my strategy for finishing GT4. You made a very good point when you said:
Enter as much races as possible with your prize cars, you can get VERY VERY far into the game without spending a penny.
Exactly. 👍 My modo is, why buy something that you can get for free? Hard work pays off. :)

I don't see the Cadillac Cien listed as a prize car. And are you saying it's easy to win the rally events with normal cars?

Looking at the prize list, there's 15 license prizes:

Volkswagen Lupo 1.4
Mazda Kusabi
Honda S500
Pontiac Sunfire GXP
Honda Dualnote
Gran Turismo Skyline GT-R
Nike One
Mazda RX-8 Concept II
Jensen Interceptor MKIII
Nismo 270R
Nissan GT-R Concept
Dome Zero
Mercury Cougar XR-7
Pontiac Solstice Coupe
Ford Model T

The Model T is what, basically useless for completing any races? I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of really exotic machinery for the licenses, but that can be solved running other races. Either way, a lot of bases are covered with those 15; I'm sure the Nike can take out quite a lot, both GT-R's can work well, there's two older V8 powerhouses, and the afore-mentioned 270R. The Lupo and S500 can probably find places to be useful. My only concern is there's no really effective FF car; the Kusabi's nothing special performance-wise, and the Sunfire's, well, a Sunfire. I don't mean that in a bad way, it's just that there's a lot of better-performing FF cars to be had. Again, racing other races will probably solve that.

So... I wonder how far you can make it without buying a single car...

Is the money fast and plentiful in the game?

See the way I see it, I'll win the prize cars but refrain from using them so I can spend my money of the required cars. Makes it interesting as the stage of 'not quite enough money so will have to make do with small mods' is prolly the best part of a GT game. Once you have crap loads of money, things get a little less interesting.

So is the prize money fast and plentiful?

Two things I've learned:

If you sell a car with no value (like the Dualnote or any other license car) you get absolutely no money. And sadly, you can never get them back once they're gone.

And, the races now pay out very little credits, often between 600 and 2000.

Thats great to hear. Although I'll prolly start GT4 many times over, the first time around, I'm not gonna load any previous GT info and not use any of the prize cars unless I absolutely have to. Even if it means racing same events a few times to get cash.

.........I seriously dont think I can wait much longer for GT4. Com'on SONY AUSTRALIA

Good idea. I now have a better stradegy to attack this game with thanks to this thread.;)
Maybe all the tips should be in the first post, so people don't have to look right through the thread.

You wanna know the ultimate strategy?

Get all silver on the IB license test to win the RX-8 Concept. With that you should be able to enter the RX-8 Cup and probably beat the competition without tuning your car at all. Then you'll win the RX-8 LM, which can be sold for 110,000Cr.

It's the perfect plan, but I'm actually not going to use it because it's too unfair.

about that silvia nismo!!

give me screens!!! :dopey:

no, would you pleese send me pics?

The Cadillac Cien is a prize car for one of the special condition hall races. It's either the first one or the second one from top down, and your opponent car is fairly weak in terms of horsepower, so you can easily beat it with the Nismo 270R without any modificaitons.

And... you can get VERY FAR in the game without spending any money. Pay attention to the prize car list, and you will know what to do.

For example:
Use the Nismo 270R to win:
Sunday Cup - AUTOBIANCHI A112 ABARTH 1979
Clubman Cup - MAZDA Atenza Touring Car
Costa Di Amalfi (easy)-Toyota RSC Rally Car
Tsubuka Circuit (easy)-Mazda RX-8 Concept 2001

Then use the Mazda RX-8 Concept 2001 to win:
FR Challenge - NISSAN SKYLINE 2000GT-B (S54A) 1967
RX-8 Cup - RX-8 LM Race Car Concept

Then use the RX-8 LM Race Car to win:
NA Tuned - HONDA NSX-R CONCEPT 2001

Then use the NSX-R Concept 2001 to win:
MR Challenge - LOTUS ESPRIT TURBO HC 1987
Type R Meeting - Honda HSC "37th Tokyo Motor Show Concept car"

Blah blah blah... and the list expands...

Forgive me if this tip is irrelevant as it's something I found useful when doing GT3.

The Arcade races go towards your final percentage - I did most of these before GT mode to get to know the tracks a lot better.

It might also be worthwhile to look through the full list of races before a car, then you can see which car you can afford is eligable for the most races.

Q. Can you only win a car once - meaning if you sell it, you won't be getting another?

COOL! I'll be definately be doing that when I finally be getting it after a year of waiting.

p.s. how much kb will it take up (the game I mean)?

That sounds like some good advice to get started, without being amulti millionaire (in dollars) etc...but, call me stupid, where do i find:

Costa Di Amalfi (easy)-Toyota RSC Rally Car
Tsubuka Circuit (easy)-Mazda RX-8 Concept 2001

Can't find those races anywhere :(

This is a very helpful thread 👍 to the starter.....I think its good to have a kind of walkthrough of hints and tips......although I wont be getting GT4 for what looks like a long time! :ouch:

Speaking of arcade mode in GT3, and getting some percentage of the game complete and things, the BMW 328Ci was a really good car, though back then you could use a garage car.

That could be tuned, NA, to just 400bhp, and when entered in any race, you'd still be up against A class cars. Not like when you sports exhaust a stock Tuscan and went up against SS class cars!

So, that BMW could win every race SOooooo easily in arcade right away, unlock all the arcade cars, and took only as long as it does to do 5 laps on 30 tracks!

I'm not sure about all these free cars in GT4 for the lisence tests, especially bronze and silver prizes being so good!

Hmmm

I'm not new to the GT series, but this is a great thread! 👍

Anyways, how does a-spec and b-spec mode fit into all of this? Do you get a certain prize car for getting a certain amount of points in either one of the modes, or do the points just not matter at all?

A-spec points so far prove to mean nothing but an evaluation or self gratificaiton. B-spec points are like EXP points for you AI driver, the more points you get, the better your AI driver drive, so you would want more points if you want to use B-spec mode for endurance races.

Getting started tips:

Start wherever you want
Buy a car or win one in the licenses, whichever makes you happy
Buy cars whenever you feel like it (or dont, if you prefer)
Don't read the prize car lists, being surprised is far better
Drive
Have fun

so true, being suprised is much better. The way this forum is going its gonna tell us everythin about the game, dam i wish i never knew gtp existed so i wud get suprised wen u 1st use nos or add a new exhaust. shame

I always found it the most fun to spend aroudn 1/2 to 3/4 of the money you start with on a car (Trueno) and then the rest on some modifications, and then just take it from there. GT3 was a mission because of this and was good fun. You do end up doing the same race over and over until you can buy the next decent car (EVO VI), but you feel like you've accomplished something.

Starting with a really good car that you get for free is probably what Polyphony want otherwise they wouldn't have given you free cars for doing the licences, but in my opinion it's nicer to start with a crappy car and really drag yourself from the bottom of the pile to the top. So in GT4, at the moment, i'm probably going to start with the Trueno again or another equally decent cheap car.

This thread is good though, don't get me wrong, but it seems i agree with a few people that starting with a good car and then doing the necessary races before winning the next car which allows you to do another section of the game... etc etc. Before you know it, you've completed the game.

Sorry about the essay.
