Another thing, drive slow! Don't push it, find your slipping points, where you loose traction, and play around in that area.

Third and forth gears are your best friends in drifting, keep with them.

Guide the wheel, don't force it, unless you're trying to straighten out. Let it slide through your hands.

I've been on it for almost 4 months now and can hold a drift pretty good. After my second month, things finally started to click and i stopped overthinking it. Practice is the key, like everyone said. Also, stick to one car, changing it up all the time will set you back a bit.

No problem man here is some useful info I have posted before and some reasons why you would “snap back” mid drift. I find that when you get a ''snapping back'' effect it is because of a few reasons.

a) You are not putting on the power enough so the weight has shifted to the front tires gaining grip and throwing you into a wall while still counter steering.

b) You are in to low of a gear third instead of fourth for example. Meaning you are using up all of the power and bouncing off of the limiter, there is not enough power to keep the drift going causing a snap back.

c) You have not returned the wheel back to center fast enough on exit. Meaning you were still counter steering when the front tires gained grip causing snap back.

I hope this helps.
This is very helpful, and exactly what I was looking for, thanks! 👍

Bluntified I saw you at the WSG livestream yesterday :p

Thought I recognized your name lol.

I'm still learning, when I'm going lock to lock I kinda loose it when I'm straightening out the wheel. I'm getting there thought, Kart Space helped me a lot (from last night), I'm gettin back on that lol.

You did good yesterday lol, I'm practicing my wheel on a custom track. Dont think i could handle Kart Space on a wheel :indiff:

Try using low FFB 0-4 for faster transitions and listen to some music that makes you happy or you like. It maybe even push you over the limits I sometimes get pumped and driving like a mad man doing very fast transitions then

+1 for the music.

Having a good mood helps a lot!

I am not to sure as of now but i did get to drift last night so most likely i would be on later, it's been pretty boring around my house lately.

Sounds good bro, hope to see you later :)

No one has suggested it yet so..

What about if you assign the handbrake to one of the buttons on the wheel? I know that it may be hard to pull the handbrake during a drift, but I have changed my drifting style so that I only need the handbrake before a turn.

Mostly, I never even use the handbrake, just throttle control and weight shifting. If you work on those two things, then you will be a much better drifter.

I remember when I got my G27, I was a really bad drifter.. xD

You could do that but tandeming will be a problem there are many times you need it to match the leaders angles. I cant count how many times i have matched angles with the e brake. If you don't have access to an e brake mid drift other than on the wheel you are going to be at a big disadvantage in my honest opinion.

edit: I have been seriously thinking about making a "how to drift with the wheel" video lately. It's probably going to be in two parts the first video explaining the differences between real and virtual drifting or what to expect when drifting on the wheel. Then the second part i would actually be going through some tips and tricks for drifting and learning on the wheel, like hand movements and patterns how to prevent snap backs etc. It’s something that I have wanted to do for a while now, I may not start working on this until my extractions heal up though.

edit: I would also like to say i have been drifting for almost seven months and i still have a lot to work on with my drifting. When you really get into drifting on the wheel there is always something that can be improved, i still feel like a noob.

Yeah ebrake is a must in tandem drifting, best thing to do is to strap a controller to your gearbox, and use it as an ebrake

I was the same way, great with the DS3 but horrible when I first encountered the wheel, drifting that is. As everyone has said, practice, and practice. For a car that you can buy straight from the premium dealer, put CH tires on and go without tuning, the S2000 GT1(Amuse). That's just my taste but I've learned loads from that car. :D Also, try Rally. 👍 Take any 4wd rally car you enjoy and lap K Trail over and over as fast as you can, cleanly of course. Lot of transitions there and the gravel really slows things down for you for learning without the 'bite' of tarmac. If you haven't driven on gravel with the wheel yet, you're in for a serious shock compared to how the DS3 performs lol.

However I'm no pro. It tooks me months of 🤬:banghead:🤬 before I even scored my first gold in a seasonal drift lol

I wouldn't recommend a 4WD rally because even with big angle there isn't much countersteering required

I just got done making the how to drift on the wheel videos part one is almost uploaded i think i might have to wait until tomorrow to upload part two though.

To the OP also try at first to just drift the exit of the corners it will be a lot easier for you to do when you are starting out.

Good stuff

So here are the "how to drift on the wheel GT5 and other sims" videos, i hope they are informative and help out any new drifters who watch them. I had a hard time explaining my self, its kind of hard to drift and explain it at the same time. You may have to replay parts of the second video to get what i am saying.

Edit: If you guys have any questions and or ideas that were not in the video please let me know. I forgot to cover hand movements and patterns in the videos.

edit: These videos can aslo be found in my "Progression with the wheel on board" thread in the drifting videos section.

Bump: I am just very proud of those videos i think they could be extremely helpful for new drifters. Also i think any new drifters should look in here instead of making another thread asking how to drift on the wheel. 👍 Sorry if i did something wrong here.

Thanks Velineon and nice rig man, is that a pin or thick gauge wire going to the r1 button for your e brake? It's a great idea. 👍

I am also thinking about making a video of how i made my handbrake if anyone is interested, But there are many ways to make one.

Nice handbrake man that video makes it a lot easier to understand, very creative setup. 👍

It could be for a few reasons it sounds like you are putting to much power down, or you are trying to throw the cars weight into a drift to aggressively. You could also not be counter steering enough, it takes a lot of throttle control and steering input to balance the car mid drift, i hope this helps out.

I may not be counter-steering... Hmm, I could never get the wheel for counter-steer before it had spin out. I keep the throttle at 1/4 when I enter. Thanks, cheers!

When you try to drift, transfer the car weight then get on the power but not that much.then countersteer the drift then balance the steering and throttle and when you see the exit, give it more gas then catch the slide then floor it.
