So, there has been some discussion about tire choice and the availability of different tire type racing. I'm putting this post up as a call to action to get the online community to enforce change. I am a firm believer that, especially in GT6, appropriate tire choice leads to more equal and fair racing with more cars being competitive in the various PP classes.

My simple request is to STOP posting the tire type in the title of the room.

This is why. Dan Ariely is the foremost expert in irrational behaviour. He has done studies on the power of defaults and has found that the default choice is most acceptable to people regardless of what that choice revolves around. For instance, the countries with the highest number of organ donors are those countries where organ donation is the lawful default. The countries where donation is the option have the lowest rate of organ donation.

Right now, the default online is RS and we all post other tire types in the room names. I say, stop posting the tire types and people will join and race on the room's tire.

My suggestions

<400PP - CM
400PP - CS
450 - SH
500 - SM
550(street) and up - SS

Race cars below 600 get RH
Race cars above 600 get RM

Leave RS for the SRF crowd

as for CH...well....I don't even like using them in the real world ;)

Getting everyone to sign up to 1 default setting is never going to happen, as everyone has their own preferences. Personally I don't like the ones you suggested. In my stock car event (see my sig) we use CH for 350-399pp, CM for 400-449pp, CS for 450-499pp, & SH for 500-550pp, & I really quite like that. I always post the tyre info in the room title, just so people know what to expect before they enter, & won't stop doing that as I appreciate it when others do it.

When we had Shuffle racing in GT5 the tyres we set to a default by the game according to what pp was chosen, & there were plenty of people racing. So I see your point.

Ya. My suggestions were simply that. 1 default is not necessarily what I am suggesting, I am merely saying that the studies show that people will accept a default more readily than they will accept a choice. If we want to see more tire types online, we have to combat the RS default.

Basically, when a room says SS, or CS, or whatever, the players can avoid the room before entering. If there is no mention in the title, you will have an increased likelihood of people joining and, once entered, a surprising low likelihood of people leaving.

I was in a room last week where the host lamented having to use RS tires in order to get people. I suggested exactly what I am suggesting here, set the limit he wanted but don't mention it in the name. People joined and we had a full room. They just got on with whatever tire they needed.

I can't remember ever staying in a room if I didn't like the tyre setting. Also, if the tyres are set to anything other than No Limit they'll show up now when you check the room settings before you even enter.

From my experience this wont help. People want to use the tires they are used to and that's all there seems to be to it.

Also like VBR noted, the tire type is always listed in the room settings (hit x before entering a room) so you can never get away from this info being out there.

I just had a thought along the same lines, What if more tunes listed online were using different tires? as most utilize RS tires.
I imagine if more tunes used street tires more people would be comfortable on these tires.

I think people would be surprised at how few players check. Those amongst us that want to ensure the room has aids turned off and such will check, but a lot will not. All I'm saying is to try it. Change starts with action.

I've done this before, all it seems to get you is more people joining and subsequently leaving.

Regardless of how many people initially check the regulations they eventually see them and decide whether or not to stay. For some people (like me) its not always the tire settings but tire wear and other variables that they base their decision on.

I'm all for more people using these comfort and sport tires but these folks have to want to use them, you cant just expect them to adopt what others use.

Don't read this as me opposing your goals, as I agree with your end goal.

What do you think about having more tunes listed online for these tires?
