Well I would consider myself to be a fanboy of many things, like particular Movie Genre's and Playstation Brand (not a huge fan of other Sony products), but why am I a fanboy? What is a fanboy?
Why has the gaming communities gone all fanboy over the last few years, or have I just been out of the loop too long, I mean when I say I want the PS1, 2 & 3 to be successful do people who hate Sony or hate the Playstation brand say "ooohh you fanboy" I personally admit to being one so as to state my intentions of posting in an x-box thread so people can see where my point of view is coming from, so as I dont get roped by mistake as either a very casual gamer or an X-box fanboy.
Is this state of affairs silly, or strange or even elitism, is it cool to be on the rite side of a console war, is it bad to be sitting on the fence at such times, do people lie when they get accused of being a fanboy? Why is it important to be on one side or the other? Isnt the point of games, the actual software and not the hardware?
My gaming history goes back to seeing my dad and friends playing on the ZX Spectrum, my actual first gaming experience that I actually enjoyed was playing games on the Amiga 500+, then on to the Atari Jaguar then to the PS1 and to PS2, ive never owned a Nintendo console until the gamecube, and ive never owned a Sega machine at all, and never owned a MS X-Box either, so dose owning two out of the Playstation family make me a Playstation Fanboy?
My console owner ship has been based on quality of games and never the hardware, but when the Atari came into my possession, the games werent as good as the Playstation when that was released shortly after the Atari, this hit the pocket and I learnt a valuable lesson, that making the right choice in gaming can save lots of cash, either on software or hardware, so the PS1 & 2 seemed to offer the best gaming compared to rival companies, so my fanboyism is based on money and nothing more.
Is this why being a fanboy is important to people? Because if they purchase a console that they think will be the better, its important for them to defend it and encourage others to buy it, thus making the software companies make more and better games for that particular console?
Is the fanboy revolution just a way to evolve gaming? Or is it hurting the industry, due to people wanting more and more specific and ideal solutions, whats going to happen if one side wins and the other loses, dose the loosing side go and make games for the winner? This has been the case for Sega & Atari, but there were always other companies to pick up where the losers left off, but what happens when the all out winner take the final % of the market and nobodys left to drive competition, will the prices go up? Will the evolution of games consoles stop? Or will it evolve to something completely different.
Sorry for the long post but what are your feeling towards modern gaming attitudes, and do you think they are good or bad for the industry as a whole?
