Polestar Racing
Launch and Press Conference
TOCA season 4.2 kicks off at Cape Ring South on April 14th, marking the start of the evaluation season for Polestar Racing in the championship.
The Polestar Racing prepared Volvo C30 R-Design is a proven winner with multiple titles and race victories in other championships. But a lot of development work is needed for the new TOCA 4.2 tracks, as well as the new engine and aerodynamic regulations.
Ed Prescott (FlyingFox) is going to be on the grid with the 2012 specification Volvo C30 and he is keen to get going. "I am really looking forward to the season start. The first race of the year is by no means going to be easy, especially with the high level of competition and the fact that we are new to the championship. But we have got a solid programme and we are ready. I really do think we have some great chances at some podium finishes as the C30 is really strong and I know that my team mate Matt is a young and confident driver with plenty of racing experience. This young lad is going places” said Ed. “I expect him to be a podium finisher at least once in every meeting” Ed added.
Matt McCarthy (MattyMc) who is driving alongside FlyingFox for the 4.2 season was asked about Polestar Racing’s chances this season as well as being team-mates with the oldest driver on the grid.
“I think we have a very good chance despite pre-season standings. I know I have a few more seconds to gain from just learning the car and tracks and I'm sure Ed feels the same. I think we'll be right up there at the top competing for a podium in the Constructors Championship, as well as of course; the Drivers Championship”. Asked about Ed’s age and if it was a concern to him, Matt said “age isn't everything, but at his age he should have plenty of experience. I've raced him many times before in Suzuki Swifts and we're very equal in pace in them and have no doubt it'll be the same in TOCA. I'm expecting him to have very good consistency and to finish at least above 8th in every race” said Matt.
Both drivers were asked about having no ABS or LSD this season? Ed said ” LSD is not an issue for me but ABS was a concern at first but having tested the Volvo extensively I have now got over the issue. It’s no traction control that has been a problem as the C30 is wheel spinning out of the corners. Just another issue for us to look at as the season progresses”.
Matt added” I was quite surprised about the disappearance of ABS this season and it will defiantly make turn 1 very interesting. It will defiantly separate the men from the boys this year as there are many racers here who are fast with ABS on, and I know a few who already run ABS off so there will be out the front of the pack. As for no LSD, I'm used to it now.. Haven't touched the stuff in over 2 years now anyway”.
Ed gave Matt a curious look and a slap across the back of the head for his remark.
The first race of the year is also going to showcase a new livery of the Volvo C30 R-Design racing car. The car is painted in the distinctive Polestar-blue with black wheels.
Polestar Racing have been seen testing the Volvo C30 at the Nurburgring last Tuesday (27th March) and shown to have good race pace although FlyingFox did have a big off in a pre-season fun race with the other teams.
