Thought I'd pop in this thread to see what direction this game has been heading in, I was already quite sure I'd pick it up eventually but the inclusion of the Hakosuka may have just tipped me off the fence. Are you guys generally happy with it? The game, I mean, not just the C10.

Yes. It has quirks that will throw some out of the experience, and there's still the unknown of the full release changes and updates, but it's a solid racer that covers old ground but does so in a good way.

It will still leave you swearing at it from time to time, so be warned, but I still recommend it.

I bought it at the beginning of Early Access, played for about 12-13 hours and then took a break. It was incredibly polished and feature-full for EA, aside from a few quirks. It's great. The driving is solid, it looks good, the music is good, it's just a lot of fun. I put it down because I wanted to wait until the full release before really committing to it; I didn't want to play it obsessively and then get bored with it by the time Early Access is over.

At times, I forgot I was playing an Early Access title. Genki clearly still know what they're doing and what people generally want from this game. The full release being delayed was not due to the game being in a poor state or anything worrying with development, but because Genki had actually taken a lot of time to make changes based on feedback and implement new features that players have asked for during Early Access. And from my experience, it was already in a really good state when EA began, and I'm usually pretty apprehensive with Early Access titles.

If you know what the TXR games are all about and you find that appealing or at least intriguing, yeah, it's fantastic.

The Toyota Celsior (Lexus LS) has been confirmed. Time to wake up, VIP gang!

https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/2634950/view/526477957972099075

An update has been released with major changes to skill trees and rival AI.

Here's a summary of the main changes:
  • The skill tree has been completely revised, and various changes have been made, including the addition of new skills. Due to this change, all skill trees that you have unlocked before the update will be reset, and any BP you have used will also be refunded.
  • BP can now be re-earned. You will receive 1 BP each time you defeat a rival you have already defeated. As a result, additional BP will be awarded based on the number of battle victories prior to the update.
  • They made changes to the rival AI "within the scope possible," which allows for more individual driving styles, such as AI that blocks aggressively or AI that intentionally slows down.
  • Some rivals, such as Rolling Master, now have "skills" just like the player. This change adds more personality to the rivals and adds variety to the battles.
This update adds exactly what many players were hoping for before the full version is released.

A hidden change not included in the release notes:

Highway Gambler's bB was previously listed simply as the "Toyota bB," but in the latest update it's now registered as a custom car called "NCP31CuHG."
However, since custom cars are actually registered in the car list under their rival's nickname in TXR2025, is his bB still just a placeholder?

Backed up my save and started a new game. Feels so much more like a full game/caRPG now. I guess this is about the full functionality until the full release, except for maybe some small stuff. And saving all the content for the full release I guess.

Depending on what other mechanics they change, I'll start another game on full release. This is my 5th or 6th or so, stopped counting. :P

Uhhh... So I decided to finally knock out the last bit of the current save...and suddenly got a few red flags going up.

I do remember a few cars had crazy fast acceleration, but it was still reasonable...but re-running a few tonight, WTF!? I don't recall Angel speeding off this fast, I didn't try MC again so I'm a bit worried, and DRR seems even more broken...but Impatient Princess feels drastically different, and while I hadn't raced Highway Gambler before, if the shockingly stupid race I just had is how it's always been, how did I never once hear about it?! I got TXR1 Devil Z flashbacks and only beat them because I reactively switched into the survival blocking strategy.

I would imagine at least some of it is due to the way tire wear has been changed with the rebalancing, plus rivals now have use of skills too which is going to affect their performance. No doubt some rivals will need to be adjusted to reflect all that, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's coming as more feedback gets to Genki about it. I imagine it's also necessary to be a little more strategic about selecting which skills are equipped now as well, as before they were more "nice to have" bonuses rather than a conscious decision to take on strong rivals efficiently.

Just as rivals have been strengthened, players can now access powerful buff skills.
Particularly powerful is the skill used by this Twitter user, which recovers SP through techniques such as clean cornering.
To defeat the stronger bosses that appear in the full version, I think players will need a strategy like this video, where they consider the right skill configuration for battle.

Some users have previously described TXR as more like a fighting game than a pure racing game, and this tendency seems to have become even stronger with the latest update.
Of course, I think they will need to take feedback into consideration and make further improvements to the difficulty and skill balance, but for me, TXR2025 is quickly becoming the TXR with the most fun battles.

I would describe this as a car JRPG. The grind was severe until this latest update. Money is much easier to earn, not to mentioned you can now stack up BPs as well.

Strategy goes out the window when the rivals are at speed in 1 second, panic sets in when they do it again without boost. Gambler's bB should not be able to hit the speeds it can right now. The only reason I beat it was because it couldn't change lanes fast enough to avoid slamming into traffic and me, at one point they were 100 yards back, and before I could even hit the brakes for the next corner they had caught up and rammed me, so they have to be hitting at least 180+ mph on the C1.

Again, if this is how it's always been, so be it, but I should have heard something about the actual race with Gambler instead of purely about the grind to unlock the bastard.

So having started a new game, a few things I've noticed:

* Selecting skills is absolutely going to be more crucial, they've been reworked to where some of them are quite situational (bonuses for team battles, parking lot challenges, challenging bosses and wanderers specifically, and so on). Getting Center of Attention 2 unlocked as early as possible is pretty powerful in the earliest stages, as it takes off about a third of the opponent's SP bar for getting either a First Attack or Reversal Attack, which can do a lot to even up the odds once you get into the lead. Figuring out good synergy when you unlock the ability to equip two skills at once is going to be extremely powerful too, and gives an incentive to actually unlock more than just the "good" ones.

* All the rivals do have more noticeable personality to their driving. Some are cautious and actually signal their lane changes, others absolutely have no problem with trying to piledrive you into the wall for a cheap win. And it's not a case of them blindly swerving around traffic, as they did it as I was passing on open road and their profiles mentioned that they were reckless drivers. This also seems to apply to traffic vehicles too, so now there's some actual risk to using them as punching bags for easy money. Also, the end of day summary doesn't bother listing how many times you raced those "nameless ones" anymore, I noticed.

* Maybe I didn't notice it before, but front wheel drive cars seem quite... different. Like they all have a ton more pull in lower gears, but with the tradeoff of being unable to steer while accelerating. I noticed that the Challengers guy who drives a Toyota bB did this quite obviously and had to pretty much slam his brakes to make a straight line lane change. Admittedly FWD cars were all pretty sad slugs before, but this seems like a kind of odd rebalancing if it wasn't what they were doing previously (and presuming it was intentional, I really dunno).

*The water and oil temps are actually kinda forgiving, unlike TXR3 where you had to enter a PA to reset your temps (unless you wanted to just pull over and sit on the side of the road for like 10 minutes realtime) the car just cools off on its own if you drive slowly, and you can just turn on the auto drive for about 30 seconds and be good to go again. This might be different at higher engine tuning levels, and granted I haven't actually been able to push my car into the red zones yet just because you really don't get much chance to in the prologue stage, but at least starting out having them turned on is really not much of an issue.

The Nissan GT-R (MY17?) has been confirmed.

This is just my personal speculation, but I think the next video will likely be the last trailer for cars added in the full version.
One reason for this is of course that the GT-R is an iconic Japanese sports car, so it makes sense to have it at the end of the trailer, but another reason is that the GT-R's announcement is just before PAXWEST, where Genki will be exhibiting.

So, perhaps they'll tease something new in the "NEXT" section of the GT-R trailer, and then announce it at PAXWEST?

I don't know if it's a preview of an iconic rival like King Speed, or a preview of the official trailer for the full version.
But I can't help but think that after the R35 they'll start some other trailer.

You were right about something different coming after GT-R
Do we think there will be more cars at launch than already shown? Surely more than just one Honda, but what about the rest? I don't really remember how it was when they were teasing Steam pre-release version, did they show all the cars in those short trailers?

Nope, there's plenty of cars that weren't showcased.

Not to mention, there are more in the datamine that I cant talk about here.

YES! HONDA! FINALLY!

I'm glad that you can now re-earn BP points, that worried me alot because you couldn't re-earn them after defeating an opponent but now, you can which is pretty good.

Now for Honda, I assume Dreamy Ghost is coming back with the NSX probably, but the team Speed Box, will they also return from the first game? Or become a wanderer again? This also makes Cupid Arrows retur....Oh wait, they're still using the 2006 Eclipse. Whoops.

Seemed like was a matter of when and not if, and I had thought the real question would be whether they were gonna keep a lid on it until the launch date got close. I guess now it's a question of what mix of old and new cars we'll be getting and what rivals will be using them. Civic seem like a foregone conclusion, but if we get an Integra and Prelude in there too that'd also add some much needed depth to the FWD lineup.

Dreamy Ghost most likely, Speed Box the team i don't think so considering they disbanded after the first TXR.
