Ok, aside of my highly succesfull Initial D area, this focuses about the TXR-series [Dreamcast, PS2] (Genki-Crave), and the Wangan Midnight-series [Coin-Op] (Genki-Namco).

Talk everything about this new and growing craze that made Sega's racing game a run for its money.

Have fun guys!! :)

I beat Tokyo Extreme Racer 3. Very HARD at the end. I chose to beat Spe...I mean Jentai, and use his car to beat the 3 Supras on Nagoya, then use it to beat that GT40 and Vette. That GT40 was to damn easy! It hit a truck, and I had a harder time beating the Vette.

Oh! I love Wangan Midnight at the arcade! I play it every time I go!

Isn't there some cheat for it where you can just race around the track ala time trial style?

I like the newer version of the Wangan, its called Maximum Tune and I got hooked to it by the time I played it. I like the size of the steering wheel "very realistic" comapared to Initial D, and it has a daytime mode (a first in the TXR/MW-series). The only gripes are way lesser car choices compared to the original MW, and tthe gameplay is still the same the 2nd place boost is still very evident. Sadly, The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V (which I use it on on the original MW) is not featured on the sequel, I had to settle with the Evo VIII RS. :)

For the n00bs, heres the Max Tune/Wangan Midnight thread. :)

Oh . Hehe sorry aobut that. I was about to start a Maximum Tune thread till now. I see you alrdeay made one. Anyways I currently own a 04' STi and the Fairlady Z. I dont play much of InD anymore.

Same here, InD doesn't have the same charm as before anymore. :(

But I'm beginning to enjoy MT now, as of now I use an Evo VIII RS, not the MR-spec.

:)

I think I might like Maximum Tune. I've never tried it before, but from viewing other players, it looks pretty complicated (and frustrating for some). "Shift to 3rd Gear"? "One look of the Devil Z and you will never forget it."? I saw some white guy that yelled and banged on the steering wheel just because he lost twice in a row to the computer...

What I do like about Max Tune is the traffic :D and the cars. If I were to play Max Tune, I'd get either the Evolution VIII, '04 STi, or the '05 Legacy.

But Maximum Tune is not the same as Initial D. Initial D will always have a special place in my heart. And where in blue blazes the S2000? Seems like Namco has some trouble with Honda...

The original Wangan Midnight is just like Cruis'n USA (this game is utterly crap), nothing special, but the cars are from TXR but with Manga charactetrs, and I was scracthing my head on why the Namco name is there. But the WM:MT is 100% better than its prdessesor.

I like the manual gear shifting too. Unlike InD which uses only up and down to shift. The traffic I also like. The car I'm probably going to get next is either the MR2 GT-S or the Supra RZ. I think this game will definnately out-do Battle Gear 3.

I don't think so in my opinion, BG3 (even thou I haven't play it yet) is better. Based on my experience on BG2, its way more engaging than InD and MT, I think BG is the closest thing to Gran Turismo (Arcade, not Simulation mode).

So the gear shift is an actual shifter this time and not an up/down?

^ Yes, but not as realistic as Ferrari F355 Challenge (that one has a simulated clutch).

Hmmm. It seems that our clutch for the ferrari game doesnt work. It lets people shift without pressing the clutch. :indiff:. One thing I know is that the graphics definately surpass InD and Battle Gear 3.

Yeah, it definitely lacks the realism. Plus, the gated shifter is too narrow for my liking, the Daytona USA is far better, but it has only four gears.

^ Same here, bye, bye, InD. I'll miss playing with ya (93.1% over 64 races V.1; 91.3% over 600 races V.2; =retired= V.3). :)

Currently I have a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII RS (not the popular MR). :)

The shift thing on the transmission is noisy. CLACK.CLACK. CLACK. CLACK. CLACK. CLACK. So noisy and annoying...

So is Max Tune just like Initial D? You earn points and then earn parts for the car? From what I've seen, every car looks like stock, but has power upgrades.
