Interesting article here on IGN which echoes a lot of concerns i'm having about this game.

I think it looks good, sure, but i'm not a fan of linear games and timed events (or whatever they are called) generally. I'm also hoping that there is a lot more open-world stuff in this game and opportunity to explore (and hey an actual tomb or two would be nice, as she mentions them in the trailer).

But the signs so far, to me at least, is that this is only related to Tomb Raider in name, and little else :(

Meh...cinematic and pretty but utterly linear. The footage from the two sources above is almost identical, yet one appears to be a playable demo. When did games regress to being modern versions of Dragon's Lair?

Also her bewbs are kinda odd, but that's not a dealbreaker :)

Not too fussed about linearity personally. Uncharted 3 is linear as anything but still one of the best games this gen.
 
Very, very promising. I think even The Last of Us will be hard pushed to stand out again this and Uncharted 4 will have a long way to go to beat it. There again, as Uncharted was inspired by the original TRs I don't suppose they'll mind as there is a definite feel of imitation coming off the new TR...and that is, as has been said, the highest form of praise.

Also in the 1st gameplay video the 'fire playing upon the bottom of the rock' in the water tunnel appears to be a fire texture triggered to appear over the rock texture, which looked fine until the fiery texturing remained after she moved her torch along more.
 
Wow, the more I see of this game, the more impressed I am. This is really what the later UNCHARTED titles should have been like; as fun as they were, I always got the impression that I was just a spectator in those games, going though scripted scenarios with no real ability to influence the outcome. Even if that ability is simply limited to being able to take it at your own pace, I feel it's an important part of the gameplay experience. I love the idea that there is stuff out there that you really have to look for to find it. I'm currently going through FINAL FANTASY XII again, and just the other day I was going through an area that I'm sure I had never seen before. So I really like what I'm seeing in TOMB RAIDER.
 
If Crystal Dynamics keep showing the game off with long gameplay demos, it's going to have a noticeable effect on sales when the game finally releases, with people having seen a decent portion of the game already. Either this is a mistake or the game is actually huge with roughly 40 hours of real gameplay.
 
Ok two thing wrong with the E3 video. 1. I hate the battering Lara is getting, and int not because I don't like to see lady's gettin hurt, it's because she is getting such pounding and doesn't seem to effect the gameplay much, if your going to gritty and real then do it properly, the drakes games were great because they found the balance between colourful and fun gameplay with a sense of realism, seein Lara take a 30 foot drop onto a branch that would cause serious injury only to walk it off after 10 seconds detracts from the gritty realism.
Exactly my thought. There's NO way a human body can survive all of that, expecially the parachute part when she fall straight over the trees.

They exagerated with this "over the Top" survival stuff, they went way too far from the classic Tomb Rider.

I doubt it would be forty hours, but if you watch carefully in some of the videos - on the map screens - you can see that they have completed just 4% of the game.
 
When it comes to shooting with the bow, they need to find a balance between two conflicting ideas.

On the one hand, when you draw a bow, you cannot hold it for long. Drawing a bowstring requires a lot of upper-arm strength, and sooner or later, you have to release or relax. Wii Sports Resort actually did this quite well; when you draw, you are focused on the target, but if you hold it for too long, you lose your focus and you lose your stability and you lose the tension in the bow, so if you do release, the arrow goes almost nowhere.

Conversely, you need time to pick out your target. Particularly when you are hunting; most of hunting with a bow and arrow relies on picking the right time to take the shot. I hardly think Tomb Raider is intended as a hunting simulator, but I would like to think that parts of both the single- and multi-player campaigns rely on your ability to lie in wait and take the shot at the right moment. To that end, the RPG elements in the game should help build Lara's skills in handling the bow and constructing its.

My concern, though, is in the mutli-player mode. If you have to shoot too quickly, the game runs the risk of hinging on the equivalent of quick-scoping, which ruins first-person shooters. But if you have too much time to shoot, it will encourage camping.
