Top Gear Challenge 1: Make a Avantime go faster than a Evo X

In the show, they spend less than 15k. Watch again.

Yeah I know, part of that 15k was spend on buying the car which left them around 9.5k. Seeing that the car ingame used was around 24k if I remember, correct me if I'm wrong. I figured you can get that extra umphhh that you need to beat the Evo X ingame time. So far my setup is still 2 sec short of the Evo X's stock time. I think 15k is fair enough. That last 2 sec is definitely achievable if your good at tuning and driving.

Oil change is fine since it comes with black ass oil but engine rebuilt shouldn't be allowed. I still haven't rebuild mine yet, cost 15500 to rebuild which is 500 above the cost.

Oil change and engine rebuild shouldn't count against the 15K limit. All that is doing is putting everyone on the same playing field.

In the show, the engine rebuild came out of the budget.

So in the theme of the challenge I think it should be applied to the budget and not a 'freebee'

In the show they used bits that they already had as well as their budget. Perhaps certain parts should be exempt from the budget to make up for the bits they used? Replacing the windows maybe?

stage 1 weight reduction should be free, it doesn't cost anything to gut the interior. polycarbonate windows however aren't something you can just do without spending any cash IRL.

how about we set predetermined prices on certain mods that more accurately reflect real world pricing? say, instead of $250 for an oil change, we say for our purposes it only costs $40, which would more realistically align with real life. weight reduction is no charge, and racing hard tyres will count as $2000? things of that nature. thoughts?

very good idea guys

can anyone remember the 1 with jezza and the nsx at laguna seca??? what time did he set on the ps2???

i fancy giving this a try

I remember doing the NSX one at the time. Didnt even finish watching the programme, I just fired up the PS2 bought the NSX and took great pleasure in trouncing Jezzer's time. All I remember is how sad my girlfriend found the whole thing!

1:21 with an evo x??? well that's unrealistic... in the show it was 1:28 or somthing...

Rolling start, hence the faster time than the real life time. Until PD is smart enough to set that map on a grid start, then we'll have accurate times.

I hate that Laguna Seca one, the car he used in GT had SPORTS tyres on, the car he drove in real life had ROAD tyres on. Use the worst tyres in GT on that NSX and it would be closer to a 1:57. Sorry, rant over.

Great idea for this Avantime, it finally has a use!

I think stage 1 weight should be allowed, thats the seats out like the show and an oil change but thats all for the freebies, then its wise spending and fine tuning.

May cleaned the engine but it cost 99 cents for a bag cips

Incorrect.

The bag of chips was James Mays payment for working through the night on the car(not the price of the parts). As well as the conditions of Hampster and the hammer happy Clarkson leaving him alone.

After eating his chips may fitted a inlet manifold and gave the car a full service(oil change, spark plugs, airfilter ect ect) all of which did come out of the budget.

The car just showed up in my used dealership today and with oil change and sport soft tires best time was a 1.29.6 for total cost of 8750 credits.

Still need to find 4.6 seconds for 6250 credits.

Are these times with a rolling start? (would explain being quicker than the power board time)

In the interest of being more like the show and equal shouldn't this be a B-Spec challenge?

This does sound like a lark and goes to show how badly PD executed the test track in the game when someone on a forum thinks up a more fun challenge than those in the game :)

My 1.29.6 with just sports tires was set with a standing start like the show. For this challenge are we using standing or rolling starts?

I think it should be a standing start. That is how it was done on the program. If we can all agree on a starting point ad get a pic of it, then we all can be on the same page and attack this.

The best I got from a standing start was a 1'30.012 I beleive. I will check again once I have access to my ps3. I normally line up my start by going to bumper cam and stopping at the beginning of the oil mark in front of the starting line.

My mods have been -
oil change
sport softs
adjutable height suspension
ecu tuning
sport exhaust

I hope the oil change doesn't disqualify the time.

Ahhh... great idea. This episode was hilarious.

edit... actually, standing start vs. rolling start is irrelevant as long as you do both the same... but if you want to compare time directly to the show, than standing start is key... although, I'm not sure how you would do this, as stopping just before the line could prove to be a little tricky.

We have our own challenges over at SpeedLounge and I just realized that the standing start vs. rolling start is messing up our times as we compare to the power lap challenge on the show. Is there a way to change the start type in Practice mode?

Hi, new to the forums. Saw this in a search thread and I shall defo have a stab at this when I find an aventime 👍

My set up will probably be something along the lines of
oil change
ECU
filter and decat
tyres
stg 1 turbo (depending on increase) :dopey:

Im thinking power is better than handling on the top gear track.

Here is a perfect example on how to start on the Test Track
