Top Gear Challenge 1: Make a Avantime go faster than a Evo X

I can't find an Avantime, but my thoughts for the 15,000 credits;

Sports ECU - 1000
Racing Air Filter - 450
Sports CAT - 500
Height Adjustable Suspension - 4500
Soft Sports Tyres - 8000 < ouch >.<

Could do an oil change in there if it's not counted and still have a few hundred to spare. And a car wash :P.

Regidity and Engine rebuild if those don't count too.

When I posted the Evo X time and Avantime times they were both rolling start times and I just keep putting lap after lap times. Why waste your time after each lap to roll around and precisely try to stop near the line before starting the lap after to get a accurate time. What about those times that you cross the cones by mistake and the lap becomes a red lap which doesn't count. I think doing the rolling stop times are much easier and less frustrating. I've already posted a Stock Evo X rolling start time to compare too.

Face it, you can't be accurate at trying to stop at the line perfectly without trial and error to get it to start the way you want it too. I rather just keep going lap after lap to push my fastest lap time and don't care about setting it up at the line.

I started a thread to try and create a collection of top gear style challenges that would be fun in GT 5. I'd love to hear ideas from others. You can join the discussion here.

Also, right after seeing this thread the Renault Avantime turned up in my used dealership. I bought it and will give the challenge a shot.

I doubt it's 100% perfect on Top Gear either.

Going to give this a go in the morning.

My setup is as follows;
Soft Sports Tyres - 8,000
Fixed Sports Suspension - 3,000
Sports Exhaust - 1,500
Racing Air Filter - 450
Sports ECU - 1,000
Sports Flywheel - 650
Oil - 250
Car Wash - 10

Total - 14,860

Now, do we get the weight reduction and plastic windows free? Because they did on the show. If so, I'll do this after confirmation. BHP total's 254.

Bleu Illiade

EDIT: Oh wait I don't even remember if the car was blue. If it was then it's certainly Bleu Illiade.

EDIT: Turns out my original needs more original. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=151766

I was surfing Top Gear episodes on youtube a couple of days ago and I came across the Faster Than an Evo Challenge. The idea was to modify an Aventime to be faster than an Evo X on the TGTT. I had seen the episode before and it was still funny.

But then a really weird thing happened. I logged on to GT5 and right there in the UCD was an Aventime...

And if you're not already ahead of me I'll be really disappointed. lol

So here it is. Take a stock Aventime (with an oil change) and spend as LITTLE as possible to turn a lap faster than 1:28.2 at the TGTT from a STANDING START. So the oil change and paint job are "free" but all other mods count towards cost.

Use tcs or abs if you like, but NO SRF.

July 5 will be the deadline. You can post your times but don't post your mods or how much you spent until the end.

If anybody needs a stock Aventime let's pitch in and help. I can send 1 each day if necessary.

whats our budget?

hows this
Rules:
-Renault Avantime '02
-Can only spend up to 15000 Cr on mods
-List your mods
-List your best time
-Picture proof welcome

Since the threads are merged...

I don't want to step on anybody's toes but I'm still going to do the challenge in my somewhat different way. Anybody thats interested is welcome.

As to the idea of setting a time with the Evo I think we'll just use the Stig's time. That way everybody has the same goal.

do we have a spending limit? also as for beating the stig in GT5.. its very easy. the original OP set a time of 1:21 with a stock Evo. i set a faster lap on the first try, but its up to you. whats our spending limit?

Not saying it's hard to beat Stig's time. Just a convenient marker to use since that's the time that Top Gear used for their challenge.

No spending limit. Spend as little as you can to beat the time.

when will you send the car? i sent you a request already

At work right now. I'll send when I get home.

Yes standing start is a must. Thats how the Stig's time was set. The only way I know to do that in practice mode is to drive up to the line, come to a complete stop and then drop the hammer.

i hold the brake and rev up the engine, then drop the brake. i think i can beat the stig with it stock

If we find that the stock Aventime will beat the time (or if its too close) then we'll go with your idea of setting a new time with the Evo.

i wish we can start a new Thread, tell the MOD that merged it that your idea and challenges are differant... or you could start a Be The Stig. we get all the current times set by the stig and we beat them....just an idea.

This thread is already made with rules and ruins what we will be doing.
