mate did you know in some european countries they have BMWs and MERCs as taxis?

My point is..
If a family sedan is used as a taxi, in no way does that mean its a crappy car.
 
Have you tried the Tickford falcon on GT3? Honestly have you? To me that's one of my favourite cars in the game. The only problem with it is that it's a Ford.
 
Yeah , I was only stirring the pot .Falcons and commodores and the like can be developed to be quite good cars.The HSVs and FTR Falcons are cool. Hopefully we can all develop our own to personal tastes in the game.Really starting to get fed up with the wait now but what can you do hu? :rolleyes: Come on E3.
 
Now, if you ask me, I am not experienced with Australian cars except for the Holden Commodore and the Ford Falcon. The thing about Australian cars is that they don't really look like powerful cars. And of course, that is until you depress the gas pedal. I tend to enjoy the roar of V8 Supercar go down Phillip Island, Surfer's Paradise, Adelaide, or Sydney. These V8s aren't as mean-sounding as American V8s, but the Australian V8s sound more like race cars than anything with a 351 or an LS1.

I would like to see more Australian cars, including a few Utes to mix things up. I don't know if anyone can clear this for me, but let me ask. For the computer game "Sports Car GT," someone made a Holden Ute and made it look like a V8 Supercar. Has there ever been a V8 Supercar that was a Ute?

Yes as radicool said there are the Brute Utes and they could almost be considered race cars as they basically are just Commodores and Falcons with a little bit more weight in the back so they make good powerslides.

Now John yes the newer falcons and commodores don't have the same grunt that American muscles does but the older pre 1980 models gave off more a sound on par with american muscle car like the monaro, falcnon HO etc.

I just had a thought - Gran Turismo is supported by Pontiac, so while it's probably unlikely that Holdens will be in GT4, there's a pretty good chance the Monaro-based Pontiac GTO will be included in the game. It's somewhat of a flagship model for them.

and the answer is NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!

i wasnt talking about brute utes!!

and they have less weight on the back than a commodore sedan, thats why they power slide!!

I can't stand the Pontiac GTO, they have butchered the front of a perfectly good Holden Monaro, the yanks should get their own next-gen GTO.

@viper- The Brutes are basically V8 Supercar Utes even though the championship has nothing to do with the V8 Super Car Championship. Its a Ute, its a supercar and its a V8 so it can be considered a V8 Supercar Ute.
 
the utes are almost stock, now how do you call that a super car. so it cant be considered a V8 supercar. if thats the case (utes are supercars) i must see plenty of V8 supercars every day:rolleyes:
the commodore utes still uses the LS1 (very mild work), standard suspension, havent been gutted for weight reduction, standard gearbox, standard diff. its not a damn supercar. the Actual V8 Supercars dont use any of thoses standard part and would rape a ute around the track if they raced each other.

i even hate calling the V8 supercars "supercars", stupid name for them they are race cars
 
I think you're stretching it a bit to say that the brutes are V8 supercar utes. I think the only similarities between the two series is the Ford vs Holden, V8 battle.

Look at the difference in times from the recent clipsal 500. The V8 supercars were running around the track in about 1:24's, the brutes were running at 1:40's. That is only over 3.2km.

I love both series but the brutes don't come close to the V8 supercars for pace.

That was a nice picture, whomever made it. I would like to see some Utes. To GT3 Freak, you said that they butchered a perfectly-fine GTO and rebadged it as the GTO. Of course, America likes to rebadge almost anything. But in my view, I like the newer GTO and I'll tell you why. The GTO will save Pontiac's a$$es from making all ugly late-model cars. The Vibe GT is pretty cool, the latest Sunfire is ugly, the Aztec should take the "tec" out and replace the "z" with "ss" (and I don't mean for "Super Sport"), the Grand Prix Comp G still proves that Pontiac STILL hasn't named a car after a race it has won, and basically, the loss of the Trans-Am/Firebird deal basically killed Pontiac as a contender. I see the new GTO as a pure sleeper. We may be looking at a modern-day muscle car, only maybe a bit past a normal BMW's pricing. The newer Mercury Marauder is going to get sacked later this year, so the GTO may become a true sleeper of our day.

People may not agree with my Pontiac GTO comments, but that's okay. We're all human, and I'm not the greatest voice of opinion. Anyhow, carry on.

australia pretty much invented the ute, the US copied us.

See the word "Promotional". Doesn't that mean anything?. The utes can't be modified too much as they get so much damage in the course of the round. More damage than the V8 Supercars. After seeing that pile up I'm not sure anymore.
 
It will still be interesting to see Utes go at it. I know in my first few posts on GTPlanet, I mentioned the issue of trucks. The Utes will be a nice challenge against the trucks (Imagine a Holden Ute against the Chevy SS-R). But of course, since the game is still being made, we just might see them in action. I know that if I can't race a truck in GT4, I'd like to race one on the road or on the dirt (and I don't mean oval + covered in dirt). Can you imagine what GT4 is going to be like when released? People are going to want to have it. It's like when girls in the 50s and stuff loved Elvis in their poodle skirts and saddle shoes (I think the shoes are called).

Anyhow, bring on the Aussies! If the Tickford from GT3 is any indication of things to come, Australia may be looking to best Europe, Asia, and America. By the way, I don't have the money in GT3 to own one, but the Tickford has some grunt and some power to it. Australian cars are better than Trans-Am. I like Trans-Am, but Australian V8s are kind of like that, only with real lights and working doors (non-functional doors and non-functional headlights must be traditional in American racing. And they say that tuned sport compacts aren't functional...). Anyhow, it will be an interesting oppurtunity to race more Australian cars, not to mentioning tuning a few of them up. I'd also like to see some HSVs.
 
I never said the Brute Utes were on par with the Sedans but they are still not stock vehicles so they are super in a way but not to the degree that you guys took me for.

The US took the ideas of utes and butchered them into huge "trucks" so they are different.
 
the utes are almost stock, hardly any mods are allowed, most of the mods are for saftey reasons not performance

the US had pick up truck's for ages they didnt copy it from utes, the el camino (and others) got the idea from aussie utes
 
Oh. America stealing from Australia? I still think that even though the El Camino and Ranchero (Chevy and Ford respectively) were both pretty popular in their day, I think the idea was better left for Australia. And who knows? Maybe either company will bring back the El Camino and/or the Ranchero and just make them mini-pickup trucks with lots of power, but ugly looks. The Utes in Aussie land are actually stylish. It can be a daily driver, a light hauler, or both. Australian power. I may be from America, but Australia found gold in these Utes.

Garry Rogers Motorsport built a silver ute a few years ago which used all the components of a V8 Supercar, engine, suspension, gearbox, diff spoilers etc. The engine was detuned a bit. GRM still owns the ute and I think they still run it on the teams promotional days. AVESCO had plans to make a series of ute racing based on this ute but CAMS and PROCAR stopped it because PROCAR already had a ute series, V8 Brutes.
I think the first ute was 'made' by a bloke in Victoria when he took to his old Ford with some chopping tools.
When the boss of GM visited Australia about two years ago and the idea of exporting the Monaro to America was first kicked around, there was also talk of exporting the Commodore ute to America as an El-Camino. Obviously never happened though.

Deffinately agree with this thread, add Torries into a GT game for christ sake. We have legendary cars of America and US, and Europe i mean come on, out legendary cars are bloody tuff, hook us up pd.
 
Hey,

I have had a blast reading about all the cars we could put into GT from a holden point of view.

Reading all the post it seems that there are about 13 cars that could fit the mould of what GT is all about.

For starters there can be no utes (Boooooooooo!) however how could we all forget the mighty SANDMAN! In my opion it would have to be in GT.

As for the older cars, the torrie and monaro would be the way to go. I am not a fan of either but it would have to have the XU-1 and the A9X and the best of the early Monaros (Sorry not a fan really so i wouldn't know)

As for New stuff there are 2 avenues, Holden cars and HSV cars. Both of these should be represented and i would include at least the following

- VY SS
- VY Calais
- Monaro CV8 and CV8-R

- HSV GTS
- HSV Sennator
- HSV Monaro GTS and GTO (personally i think the GTO looks better)

Finally there has to be some racing Holdens included as well. I think the top 5 teams, where the user gets to choose the livery would be awsome

Just my thoughts.

Keep up the great work and i can't wait till Sunday, V8's are back!
