Total Distance awards

GT3 included an odometer for the first time.

Many fans love to keep track of their total mileage and feel good about reaching certain landmarks, e.g. 10,000 miles etc.

Wouldn't it be great if certain cars were awarded for reaching such landmarks rather than being won in races?

I'd love to see prize cars for reaching:

1,000 total miles
5,000 total miles
10,000 total miles
20,000 total miles
50,000 total miles

and for those real die hard fans.... 100,000 miles :)

"100,000 miles"

Well I guess I could just stick a rubber band on the x button and stick it on a speed test if that happens ;)

Why "close this thread"

I think it was a valid suggestion. When newcomers get treated in this fashion it's not surprising that they get put off posting. This thread isn't a duplication of any other thread and I believe it is a valid idea.

Other games do this, namely World Rally Championship 3.

As long as they aren't really awesome cars for the lower ones, and as long as you can win the higher ones from other places, it would be fine. Like, I don't want noobs online driving C5Rs because they drove 5000 miles, and I don't want to miss out on an LMP or something because I didn't want to drive 100,000 miles (unless doing all the races brings you to 100,000 miles...).

Also in regard to distance, I think it would be nice to be able to rebuild engines and reset the car's odometer. Cause I hate when you like driving a car a lot, then drive it past peak power, then have to go to a lot of trouble to get a new one.

The total mileage in GT3 to get 100% is just a few thousand and think about how many hours it takes to get that. I think this idea is flawed b/c you can just repeat races and win cars... the current % complete bonus is much better.

Very good point. The cycle is a little too quick in my opinion. Whilst I realise that engine life couldn't reflect real life as most people wouldn't drive a single vehicle a far enough distance, I do feel that it should be extended.

In fact I'd prefer either Sven's idea above, or to drive in the engine for first few hundred miles, but no deteriation after that. I'ts very frustrating that once you have done a few hundred miles your car will lose performance.

Caligula, you're basically offering prizes for certain miles run. I don't know how many miles I've done in GT3, but for what I know, I've completed either 79 or 80+ percent, meaning that I've been around in GT3. So would I want prizes for excessive mileage? In a way yes, but no. I'd rather just kick ass in GT any way I can.

There is one situation where I can recall where running a certain number of miles gets you to unlock things, and that's in Ridge Racer V. For example, if you get one number of miles, you unlock more songs from Mijk van Dyk (or however you spell it), and if you win the final Grand Prix (meaning, the Airport Oval) with all the cars, you get a Pac Man car plus a pretty cool techno tune from Kisaburo. But in GT4? No, I don'y buy it. I sell it.

You bring up a valid argument no matter what anyone says, but if this thread gets locked, I stated my points.

Well. The US don't get WRC3. But this is not what the game is, is it?

So, this topic is done. Another spam thread.

Terminiate it.

thats a retarded idea, i remember in GT2 there was the endurence at rome, i figured out that if i put a weight on the gas i could do and ok lap time, just by hugging the walls, so i rigged up my contraption then tested it to see if it worked, and it did, i was at least 5 laps ahead and i finished first after returning from having lunch, personally i regret it cause i beat the system and avoided gran turismo play time =), but the miles could easily by exploited by people with evil minds like meself...

Isnt spam when somebody tries to solicit a product or maybe the fake ham? I dont see how someone merely posting an idea can be called "spam".

If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all. I am honestly getting damn sick and tired of all the insults and crap at these forums. I've been here since the very start (18th member and probably the fourth member in terms of active posters) and over the last year or two the 'niceness' of the forum is being ruined by people who constantly seem to get out of the wrong side of bed in the morning. 👎 :grumpy: 👎

Back to the topic - i think it is a good idea but instead of cars maybe tuning parts, music or even bonus videos (or something else) should be unlocked as an alternative.

First off, stop attacking Darin. Darin is actually a pretty cool person when I was talking with him on MSN Messenger one morning while GTP6 was being made. We talked about GT and GTP and stuff. Everyone on here has a certain personality, some might say. Mine? Proper, casual, laid-back, expressive... and Darin's personality may be rude to some people. Like when he came up with "losing interest in GT4," he's not basically attacking GT4, just waiting for it like many of us GT players.

Having said that, I don't know if I mentioned this in my "My Message to New Members" thread, but I often try to answer a person's question as best as I can without attacking the member. Like there used to be someone who once told me to stop making posts and used the desginating "special post" marker. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I remember being a member on GTPlanet and seeing all or most of CobraGT's threads being closed down. Nowadays it's scoobyonline. But whatever the question, if it isn't closed up, I'll try to answer. And if I'm mean, I either mean it or just want to have fun. I don't hate anyone. No, not at all. I've learned a few lessons. Not everyone is going to be kind. I've had to ignore people who persistently undermine and underappreciate me. If I did that on AOL, I can do it here (unless that person was a Moderator, because you have to live with it).

Caligula brought up a valid point. It wasn't anything to taint Gran Turismo or GT4, he was just asking if we could have such a feature in the game. And as I told Cali, I disagreed with the idea, but I didn't bash on Cali. For anyone, male or female, I'll try to answer questions as best as I can. I'm not trying to be "GTPlanet Member of the Year" for all of this, I'm just telling it like it is. So Caligula, thanks for speaking up on GTP.

Hiya! :D :O

I think that if the Total Distance award is to be added in GT4, the prize have to be VERY worth the time and effort to drive that one car to the mileage goal! :O:O But the prize may not be worth it to some who take so much time to get the prize and to now think it was all a waste of time if they dont like the prize. The only best prize I could think for myself to have is big tuning company or well known cars as prizes like Veilside Supra or Blitz Skyline or Lingenfelter Corvette...but I know it wont be worth it to some but its just wut I would suggest :O:O.
Anyways, but still I dont really like the total distance award very much becuz I cant imagine myself playing or racing through tracks many MANY times over and over with the same car and to not get crazy over it   :O:O:O

this will probably be an unpopular suggestion but i think Mileage should determine parts deterioration, its more realistic, but like i said, alot of you probably won't like the idea of being punished by favoring a car, or having to buy a new one after a certain point

About that lengthening engine life thing, I would like that but it doesn't concern me much as they don't lose MUCH power. But one thing I REALLY want, is realistic wearing of tires. I mean the super hards only go 100km's, you would expect mediums to be able to pull that distance. Maybe even medium softs.

Thanks to those who had something constructive to say on my thread :)

Everyone has different aspects they like or dislike about the GT series. Not everyone likes the endurances races but I would not rip someone apart because they didn't. One person started flaming me and then others joined in for what was simply an idea. Having an idea which people don't like is not "spam". Spam is something which is totally irrelevant to the subject matter, like "close this thread"...LOL

I would have understood if I'd posted on a subject which had already been mentioned countless times, but this in my opinion was something new.

Thank you John and others who can disagree in a polite fashion and understand the meaning of democracy.

And thanks to Sage who opened the new "slap on the wrist" thread. :)

Remember...... whether you agree or disagree with any thread, we all have something in common which is that we all love GT and to most of us it is the best series ever made.

No more rambling..... I've said my piece.... long live GT 👍

Caligula1, I'm with you 100%... concerning your idea, I think it's good, and I admit, when I crossed the 10000 mile barrier, I was quite proud of myself....:)

I concede that mileage for the sake of mileage is pointless, just like a 100% win ratio, but surely mileage gained in the thick of the battle (real mileage) is worth knowing, and possibly rewarding?

...i think Mileage should determine parts deterioration, its more realistic, but like i said, alot of you probably won't like the idea of being punished by favoring a car,

I don't think that's a bad idea either..

TM

P.S. Surely if a thread is to be stopped/locked etc., that's a decision for the mods, and not mere posters like us?

I think this idea might work. However aiming fot 100,000 miles does seem a little too much. Maybe keep the 1,000 and 5,000 marks only.

PD do need to think of some different waysfor us to win prize money/cars. As racing 300 different times can get a little boring. Sure you want to keep the bulk of prizes awarded for winning races (after all that's what the games about). But a few "special" tests/challenges with prizes would make a nice change.

GTP had that Toyota Prius energy test thingy. Balancing speed and economy made a nice change.

Cheers

Jamie

P.S. Can we keep the insulting remarks/comments to a minimum. If you don't like what your reading on this forum, then just ignore it.

Brilliant idea to win stuff for mileage...........I too would feel quite proud of completing a certian amount of race time. The only way I would see it working was to have it only count your miles when you are in a proper race.....this would stop people accumulating milage by........"un-lawful means"!!! Stop people going around the ring for 400 times or somthing in free mode!

You seem to win somthing for everything else in GT.......so why not miles aswell :D

Robin

It is a neat idea, I think it should do what another racing game does (I won't name in fear of being flamed lol), it gives you new skins for your car at certain milages :). That would be very cool imo.
