Touring Cars in GT5?

Kudos for me, I completely missed the part where it said "touring" Sorry about that. For me it's definitely the Vauxhall Calibra '95 touring car, the AWD and the endless revs make it an unforgettable experience. 👍

The BMW M3 GTR '01 is far and away my favorite. Even after tuning it up to higher speeds it still drives with precision.

Thats not a touring car lol, its a GT/NGT/GT2 car which races in the ALMS in the early 00s. Other than DTM in Germany, V8 Supercars in Australia, TC2000 in Argentina and V8 Superstars in Italy, touring cars has just been ruined by the FIA, if the cars are based on shopping trolleys it does not mean that they have to be as slow as shopping trolleys! I can't take BTCC, STCC and WTCC seriously these days because they're just woefully slow.

Are you serious? BTCC is on every week at the moment on ITV4. I watch it from 1100 -1800 every Sunday.

I'm guessing he means when BTCC was still good. Yes it's still on but it only has 1 (Honda) maybe 2 (Aon Focus) works teams.

Mid 90's I'm pretty sure every team was a works team and there were maybe 10 different manufactures, That was proper touring cars and it was awesome

Yeah, AlfaBob, pics of your RL Alfa would be awesome - though not compulsory - I guess you have a right to keep your personal life stealthy! Lol. The Alfa is a giant killer in the game. How do you like it in RL? How does it compare with the one in the game?

The DTM is a Sunday Drive in the Alfa.

The CLK is a very comfortable car to drive. Both Astra and Calibra are point-and-squirt rockets.

Standard car: Audi A4 Touring car. Great looks, classic brand, Mattias Ekström's car...

Premium car: Lexus Weds Sport IS350. Just awesome. And it got the Le Mans style blinking headlights

The Weds Sport IS350 is not a Touring Car, it's a Grand Tourer, silhouette prototype. Modern DTM cars (like the Lexus IS-F racing concept) aren't really Touring Cars either when you think about it, which is kinda sad.

My favorite real Touring Car in the game is the 155 DTM, can't wait to finally drive it with a cockpit view, even a blacked out one.

I want many more Touring Cars, don't care much what they are, I just want the variety. Also as said, BTCC, WTCC, DTM, ALMS, LeMans, anything PD can make for us so we can have race series based on them. And with some "league appropriate" tracks that fit them.

Not strictly a Touring Car, it was BMW's works effort in the GT class of the ALMS back in the early 2000's.

But... still a freakin' awesome car nonetheless!!!

You guessed right. I just realized how it came across. My memory may be off but I remember BTCC as it was in the mid 90's going away no? Haven't kept up since so actually didnt know it came back. Doesn't sound like it's as good though. My appologies to freelance as I read his post wrong.

It was definally better when there were more works teams in btcc but it seems all motorsports are going through the same just look at the wrc over the last 3/4 years there was only ford and citroen and to be fair it was pretty boring but i still feel the btcc has great racing without full works teams and thats why i'm going to the btcc finale in silverstone next weekend as i always do every year.
BTCC may have lost vauxhall, seat etc as works teams but the racing is still up there full of excitement,crashes and great support races.

No, they are Grand Tourers, or "sportscars", except for some GT300s like the Porsche 911, they are just silhouettes/prototypes anyway.

Like I mentioned in a post before, yes, at least the newer DTM cars aren't really Touring Cars in a traditional way. I am not quite sure about cars from '00 or '01 like the CLK and the TT, it's possible that these still shared some parts from the road going versions. Even the Alfa 155 and the Calibra are close to be considered as prototypes, but they are, as far as I know, not just silhouettes and still have some parts from the normal cars.

By the way, don't want this to make it look like a "wish post", but have you guys seen the GTTV video from Goodwood? Yamauchi drove the DTM Audi V8 up the hill, now that would be a Touring Car I would like to see and since he was really impressed by it, I'm crossing my fingers it will come as DLC.

Ahh, it was great to see those photos of the Lagunas and Mondeos etc. Its those sorts of cars that got me in to motorsport id say, highlights of my childhood were sitting on the roof of my dad's Astra at Brands Hatch watching these kinds of races. And no... modern BTCC is not even close to capturing the spirit of those races (of course, it maybe the rose tinted memories of one of the good parts of childhood, lol)

Very true, I honestly believe the BTCC of the mid to late 90s was the best touring car competition at that time, proper racing which easily attracted the best tin-top drivers and ex-F1 drivers who needed to race.

The BTCC today is a good national series and I still enjoy it, but the WTCC and DTM are both better in terms of prestige and overall driver quality. There are a handful of BTCC drivers who could cut it in any form of touring car championship, but the strength in depth is not there.

The best BTCC drivers generally emigrate to the WTCC (eg Thompson, Huff, Menu), and even the most optimistic BTCC driver would not expect to ever reach F1 (eg di Resta from DTM).

The current BTCC would work well in GT5 though, because it is still about racing the cars, not just driving cars fast. I would like to see the traditional BTCC circuits like Knockhill and Thruxton feature in a modern console game.
