I'm looking for some good information regarding the setup for the Toyota 86 for this months online time trial challenge. I think I got a good amount figured out, but I'm still well off the pace of the top drivers.

Here's what I got so far, any feedback is apprecaited.

Max power mods w/ oil change, power limited to the required 197 HP, which puts me at 224TQ. Curious to see how much torque people have got with the requirements.

Stage 2 weight reduction, chassis stiffness, lightweight windows/hood.
Weight obviously brought back to required 1230kg, (added 114kg, at 34 position to make 50/50 weight balance).

Full custom trans @
143 top speed, 5.5000 final drive
1st 3.391
2nd 2.403
3rd 1.843
4th 1.495
5th 1.220
6th 1.018

Full custom susp @

-5 -5 ride height
8.2F 5.4R springs
5F 4R ext
4 4 compression
2F 2R roll bars
1.0F .8R camber
0F -.01R Toe

Full customer LSD
14 int. Torque
35 acc. stab.
18 brake sens.

Full lip kit, 20 downforce in rear
Semi race flywheel, carbon driveshaft, twin disc clutch

This setup is good for 1'11.216

Which is about 1511 overall on the online leaderboards.
...but the top top is a very high 1'08.9Xx, so I'm over two seconds off.

Can someone give me some help as to where the rest of the time is at?

There might be half a second to a second in driving in my current second, but not 2+.

Someone try my setup and let me know if it's any good.

Any feedback appreciated.

Skill.

I'm not saying you arent good, but keep in mind the top guys are the cream of the crop. I think being in the top 1000 is a good feat

This is true. The best people are always 2-3 seconds ahead of whatever my best possible lap is in the same car with the same tune.

yeah, top 300 is the best i seem to get,78th is the best ive got,but thats without the tuning stuff, nascar i think.
plough your hours into it brother,if u feel the need to.

Haha... I messed with the tune for a few hours and after awhile I started to go backwards :) .. I will try your tune tomorrow to see what I come up with . I still over drive the corner entry and then pay for it on exit :(

Try this,

Move your ballast all the way back to 50.

Can't really help with the transmission, but it sounds like yours is decent if your running that time.

The only other thing, Is drop into second right before the apex, and quick up shift to 3rd to bring you into and out of the apex. I broke into the 1:10's last night running this set up. Good for 950. Let me know, what you think. I can't take credit for this set up, most of it came from eclispee. He's number one right now, Load his replay and study it.

I'd be more interested to see a set-up for anyone who golded the second TT (the 600pp one... or was it 650?) with the same car.

I accidentally went straight into it without switching cars, and managed to get within a couple seconds (I think I managed to get it up to 520pp or so, before trying). I'm sure someone can do it.

IMO people are obsessed with car tunes, thinking they will make miracles on their driving skills. Just an advice, THEY DON'T! Especially when the tunings are such personal settings, considering your driving type.

But above all you must understand that, Top Drivers in TT's are really excellent gaming drivers (some of them with experience in real race driving). Just read the GTP Weekly Race Series Time Trials and the GTP Weekly Race Series Online Events and get a clue about what's real important when having best times in the leader-board.

With this said, I don't mean to exclude the importance of tuning cars in GT5, but what really makes the difference between gamers in 200th positions and under it are driving skills.

Try to post a video of your best lap, so people can see what's your driving lines, the gear shifts and the speed you get into corners. Improving that is quite more difficult than get the best setting for a specific car. And you'll get them right with a lot of training.

I think that is widely more important than tune settings IMO.

Couldn't agree more. When I first started out with TT's three months ago, I was shocked at the difference between my times and the top guys. I figured it must be the settings, so for the Nurburgring GT-R TT eclipsee (who was #1 at that moment) posted his settings here, but I just couldn't improve with that at all. Ended up #400-something.

But when I started to make my own settings just based on how the car feels and what works for me, and put in a lot of practice - that did make me faster. Since then good results came in, top-150 spots at Chamonix, dry and wet Spa, and Rome. And I feel that I'm still improving - just by putting time into practice and looking at the laps of the top guys.

haha...very close sir!

This TT is really close from the top 50 to where we're at. I'm hoping to be in the top 40 at the end of it but highly doubtful as I have no time to put some laps in.

The suspension is pretty good stock, managed a 1:09.260 with no tuning.
Only improved that to 1:09.057 with tuning so far.
Work on perfecting your technique first, then fiddle with the car.

Anyone please feel free to add me if you wanna try out my tune.
Always happy to share :)

I would try your setup ;-) (just kidding). I think both sides are right. It is a mixture out of practice and setting. Without the transmission and weight setup from eclipsee and gerchu i would still be a second behind. The suspension didn't really matter.

All good man anyone can try it!
First time i've ever tuned a car tho so may not be the fastest.
Seems pretty good tho.

Seems to me that it was the fastest :-). Congratulation for that great time. You are a damn good driver. Cause what i forgot to say was. It is a mixture of both, but about 80% is the driver :-). Like you already mentioned the last 2/10 was your suspension setup. For me in the beginning it was the main car and gear setup which gave me about a full second but it was still a long practice and learnig breaking points plus learn that you sometimes just need to let the car roll instead of pushing the throttle.

After looking at the leaderboard, I'm guessing you gonna start to tune now :)
It really does help, that and racing wheel.
