With development being focused so much on advanced technologies and alternative fuel cars, a few of Toyota's U.K. engineers finally had some much-needed fun with their latest one-off Aygo Crazy "shopping supercar" concept that is set to make its debut at next month's British Motor Show.

Built more with a Group B rally car philosophy, than say the popular D1 drifting style, the buffer, more powerful Aygo lives up to its 'crazy' designation. Engineers built the car to be as fun as possible and eliminated the standard car's electronic driver assist systems such as the ABS, traction control and power steering.

Powering the rear wheels (yes, we said rear) is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder pulled from the latest Celica that pushes out 200 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. The unique rear-wheel drive layout was a result of engineers mounting the engine under the rear hatch (or boot) of the car.

With so much power in such a small, relatively light (2,314 lbs) car, Toyota estimates it can run up to a top speed of 127 mph and hit 62 mph in 5.75 seconds.

The exterior was widened half an inch on either side in order to properly cover the bigger 17-inch lightweight wheels wrapped in sticky Goodyear rubber. Side sills, front bumper and a more robust rear clip all received the rally-style treatment. Designers stayed true to the racing theme and incorporated a roof-mounted spoiler out back that was once used on a now-defunct Champ Car racer.

Brembo provided the four-piston 11-inch front brakes that keep the so-called 'kart with doors and a roof' in check, while Tein refined the car's MR-2 suspension system with their adjustable dampers.

The cabin space was tricked out by coachtrimmer O'Rourke and features racing seats, roll cage, and safety harnesses.

Unfortunately, as much as we would enjoy flogging Toyota's crazy little Aygo around, it won't make it to production. Look for the concept to makes its first public appearance at the British Motor Show this summer.

Yes, that is an old man driving the car there people!

Concept or not, that's a fast little bugger right there, wouldn't mind a lap 'round a circuit with it...

Production is the word we're looking for here, Toyota

Cute little car. Doesn't look bad. Of course if it were a car I'd modify, I'd probably keep the same colors, only replace the white with blue and gold wheels. Is this a mid-engined car or something? I was asking because of the side ducts on this car.

[UPDATE] This is OLD news? Then this thread will probably be on life support, waiting for that cord to be pulled...

It is old news, though I was exaggerating when I said it'd been around for a year. More like half a year.

Sorry to break it to you, but this car is olllllddd news. It's been around for a good year or so ;)
It hasn't been around for even close to a year, it made it's debut late July this year.

Edit: Just noticed your second post, you need to half that again though ;) 👍.

Well I love Toyota engines, and there 2.0 Litre engines are absolute winners! I love the sound of them. Lotus also uses Toyota Engines, this wa a very smart move by Lotus, one that I aplaud them for, the idea of having a very light little Exige...then adding a Toyota 2.0!!!! SWEET!!!👍 Anyway yeah I'm sure this would be a cool little car to drive...deffinelty would be fun.:D
Peace,

your gonna laugh. i just saw the Topgear ep with it in. I'm impressed with the little bugger myself (they played football with 10 of em :P). probably won't make it here without gaining a bleepload of weight :P

FAIL! The Exige uses a 1.8 litre Toyota engine.
Oops lol:lol: your right I was thinking 2.0L because of the Aygo, I compare the Exige with the AE86 Sprinter's. There lighter but that amazing sound is something they have in common.👍
Cheers mate,
Rusty*

A mid engine hatchback? A Clio V6 competitor? I approve! :D:tup:
Too bad Toyota doesn't have the guts to put that into construction, and too bad Renault stop producing Clio V6 a long time ago..... :(

Make that three months ;). It hasn't been posted yet, no one knows about it yet it seems, so no harm in posting it right? :)

Saw it as well, only that the cars they used were Aygos. If they'd used the Aygo Crazy versions, I think that game would got a little out of hand ;)

Wow, Toyota created an interesting, wild and fun-looking car. Oh no wait, Toyota no longer produces such cars. Pity- it would be make a good transition to production.

It reminds me of my dog: small, cute and not particualrly aggressive (unless you count overly happy), but dammit, he's trying! He wants to be a big dog!

replace the white with blue and gold wheels.

Blue and gold? I suppose you could then rename it the 'Aygo Tacky' edition...:yuck:

Anyway I saw this little monster at the Motor Show. It looks good in real life, but the front looks a little awkward at this angle;

The back end is nice though;

The back-end looks botched. More like a Questomod-thread car... Plus, I agree with TopGear's point - why make the 'Crazy' look hand-painted?

If only it was slightly more real, the aero slightly sharper, slightly more powerful, and slightly more like a Clio V6, it might actually end up cool.

I really love cars such as these, shame its not headed for production.

So it's just a promotional tool then, a copy of the 2004 Nissan Micra R?

I'm thinking the next and only time we'll see this car again is when we win it as a prize car in GT5.

Rubbish Rubbish Rubbish Rubbish. How many times do you want me to say Rubbish?

Ugly as hell. It looks like a botched cosmetic surgery job.

Looks to be quite a little performer, but as has been stated, it will never be released to the general public.

Oh well.

;)
