Hi,
I got a Toyota GT1, (I'm not trying to brag or boast, but for comparison purposes) I also have the following Le Mans cars.
Minolta Toyota
Nissan R92
Jaguar XJR'88
Pescarolo Judd 05
Bentley Le Mans
Sauber C9
The Toyota GT1 was the cheapest by far, and in terms of value for money it is very good, however, there are certian points to consider.
My GT1 has high mileage, and although I change the oil on a regular basis it is loosing power slowly but surely. It isnt the most powerful car in the first place, at approximately 800bhp it's has less power than it's rivals.
So although it starts off cheap, I'm going to have to do a 500,000 engine rebuild on it quite soon I think.
Despite it's seemingly lack of power, the Toyota GT1 does have ''an ace up it's sleeve'', and that's it's aerodynamics. when you get in the slipstream of a rival car, the GT1 is in its element. With the correct gearing and downforce settings, AND the appropriate slipstream (or two), I have hit 269mph at Indy in a race, when the GT1 hits 260mph it still accelerates, whereas when I've hit 260mph in the Sauber and Nissan R92 they start to slow a little at this speed.
NOTE: this was with a hgh rpm turbo kit added @ cost of 20,000, which raises power to approximately 900bhp.
I found the handling of the GT1 to be good, I have not done any specific testing but the car does feel good. I rate myself about 7/10 for tuning and driving and am currently at level 35 a spec and 26 b spec.
I use relatively similiar setups for all of my Le mans cars and they all seem to handle ''OK'', the exception being the Bentley which does seem better than the rest.
The only problem I found with the GT1 was grip in the lower gears, all my Le mans cars apart from the Sauber have traction issues in 2nd and 3rd gears, even on Racing Soft tyres. Despite the GT1 having less power than the others, I thought this would mean better grip (it's probably my setup or my heavy 'right foot') but I was a little surprised at how easily the rear wheels span in 3rd gear on the GT1.
Overall, I consider the GT1 as being great value for money, I think it's a bit of a cult car. It may not be as good as a Sauber, but for 2million less and the fact that it's hit 269mph (and still accelerating) it's a firm favourite of mine.
Saubers got the grip and power, Bentleys got the handling and looks, GT1 has got that little something that puts a smile on your face and if you like supporting the underdog, you'll love the GT1.
I did!!
