Some of us are always glad to help. Keep that in mind whenever (if ever) you post a new thread and someone snaps "SEARCH YOU N00B!" (I've done it myself)... try not to lose it 👍

Excellent advice.👍

Also, if you search, you'll find several threads concerning the GT World Championship where the 88C-V was used successfully. I don't have a race report myself, but it's the car I used. In all but a few of the city courses, it wiped out the opposition, even stock. And it still won at those other courses (the only place I qualified was Paris), just not by as huge a margin.

It's a fine car. The only modification I made was to switch to R2 tires at the rear (left the R3s at the front) to even out the tire wear and reduce some understeer. It's a little touchy on the brakes, particularly in really dynamic situations, but backing off the rear stabilizers would probably help that. I've learned to just brake judiciously because I'd rather deal with the oversteer than generate understeer.

Put R2s on the back, switch out all the ASM driving aids, and turn traction control down to 1 (or off entirely). You're good to beat the GTWC.

i would like to put in that the search button is confusing and misleading for a person who doesnt know his way around the site. i tried it myself before i posted that "need help" thread. im a member of a lot of forums and know of the "search before you post" rule.

How is it misleading? I'm honestly asking. As far as I know, you put the keywords you're interested in, like "Minolta Toyota", and tell it where to look: everywhere or by a specific board such as 'GT4'; limited to thread titles only, or all posts, etc.

It won't help you if you don't really know what you're looking for, but no search engine does that. If you can give it some help it usually does well enough. If you don't know how to limit it to a certain area, the default is to search all posts on all boards.

Maybe he's going for the Quick Search button instead of the Advanced Search one...?

Quick Search brings up a gazillion threads, with Minolta Toyota in them, while in the advanced one you can speficy that "Minolta Toyota" is said in the thread title.

oh, for my particular question i advanced searched for awhile and couldnt find anything. besides, you always get your question answered anyway lol.

when i did regular like he said i got a gazillion, but when i tried advanced i got nothing. i customized every which way i could and didnt come up with anything. once i learn my way around the site ill be able to find stuff with no problem.

Actually Duke, It's not easy at all finding specific car threads.

Unless of course, you already know they exist.

As for the original question, as to whether the 'Minolta' is a good car - NO. No it isn't. Not for what it is. (I still like it, though.)

It's just pretty, fast and easy to win, it'd get destroyed online. :D

It'll whip anything in the game (A.I. controlled) though, but then again so would a modified JGTC car... Just go with what looks coolest, that's all that matters in Gran Turismo mode. Haha.

the minolta is best when SOLD. Well actually do the el captain endurance race, beef up the car and have some fun with it then redo the endurance race and sell the car you'll net a little under 1,000,000 credits total. Otherwise don't bother with it, wait to get into the extreme events ( finish nuremburg 24hr for the formula ) and get the sauber - you won't regret it.

What's wrong with the Minolta? It's quick, it's relatively easy on tires, and it's fun to drive - challenging but not psychotic.

Well, of course Bob hates it on Sports tires. With R3/R2 combination, though, it's fun, and fairly realistic for it's type.

For the record, I'm at 65% and I have ZERO B-spec points or miles.

how can you not use b-spec , (i probaly use it 2 much )

I... don't let it drive for me! 💡

I've done some of the enduros and plan on doing everything 4 hours and under in realtime A-spec. I may have Bob co-drive some of the longer ones.

There's nothing 'wrong' with it, it's just flawed.

It's skittish, and while yes it's fun to drive, I don't think you could describe it as 'nice', it's just a sledgehammer. If there was an online mode, I promise you, it would get left for dead by the more experienced players in the better rounded Le Mans/Group C cars.

It reminds me of the McLaren F1 road car. Haha.

The 88C-V is a pretty good car, actually. It's one of TWO Group C cars equipped with a 6-speed transmission (the other being the Peugeot 905), has a low curb weight and can be tuned out of ALL of its faults. Have a problem with the rear stepping out on you? Soften the stabilizers in the rear. Have a problem with it bouncing around too much over 200 MPH? Try softening the ride height a hair, as well as the shocks. Have a problem with uneven tire wear? Either alter your weight transfer, correct your brake balance, or use harder compounds in the rear.

It's definitely a good car, and no more "imbalanced" than other "better-rounded" Group C prototypes. If you want a totally "balanced" machine, get yourself a GTP or LMP instead. Every one of the Group C prototypes (with the exception of the 787B and 905) pits at or around the same time in the hands of the AI. None has any marketable advantage over the others, driving skills being equal.

I just try to avoid the minolta, just because everyone and his dog is using it...

Still trying to beat the GTWC with the Escudo :D

Well, I have the 88C-V, the CLK-GTR, and nothing else in between. I refuse to buy racecars that cost over 250,000cr, so I'm pretty much stuck using the Toyota for this level of racing, until I win something like the 787B or one of the Prototypes.

You know how I already know it's got 6 gears?? 'Cause I've driven it, alot. You know why?? BECAUSE I LIKE IT. ALOT. It's a gorgeous car, but I think you're lying to yourself if you think it's 'no more imbalanced than the other group C cars.' Or at least the one's I've driven! I havent got a 905 yet, but I heard that had the most horrendous turbo lag, which sounds good 'cause maybe it'd give the blasted AI a chance...

Getting back to the Minolta, YES you can tune quite a few of its faults out, (OMG really!??) but for me it's never felt perfect, and thus it hasn't thrilled me like alot of the other fibreglass rockets have thrilled me and even though I do like it. You say to buy an LMP if I want a perfect racing car, but that's just not necessary as I find the other group c cars I have handle alot better.
I find that the Minolta's saving graces are the fact it's so pretty, (If it was black... Uh oh. I think... i've made a mess. In my pants. :\) and the fact it's so fast.

...

That's great against the AI, that's even great against your friend who pops over to play GT every now and then, but I'm telling you. It'd get roasted and exposed online. :D You'd see threads starting 'why do people say bad things about the Minolta, it's a good car!' and about 50 'Yes, BUT!!' responces.

Now! This is of course my opinion, some of you out there will be thinking '...WHAT?? I've never had any problems with that car, I drive it better than I my Bentley!' and that's perfectly logical, I love the CLK-GTR, which I always hear bad things about. Obviously cars will suit your driving style etc, but the differance is, even though it is insanely fast and if driven well can produce superfast laps, I'm willing to admit it'd get hammered online. :D

EDIT - Duke, you wont win a 787B, the R92CP and R89C are your best bets, unless you wanna' try the F1 cup for the Sauber... (It's worth it)

I was going to say, you could win the missions and get the Nissan R92CP, which is also a very nice car.

You get the R89C for the missions, the R92CP is given for winning the Fuji Enduro. It's good for sprints but it wrecks tires unless you get the right set up, so something a bit less raw may be better for those. (Enduros)

EDIT - Also Duke, go check the used car lots cycle list for your version of the game, at the end of every cycle two black group C and two black GT1 cars appear for a fraction of the price of the normal ones.

There you can get a black 787B, a black R92CP a black Toyota Gt One TS020 and a black R390. you buy the chassis refresher plan and new oil and they're good to go, bargains infact.
