Just to refine a few points, this endurance race has weather added to it if you read the info on PS3 (GT5) game screen the weather is random after you make your settings, so you can see we don’t really have any control over that.

We have given you 4 types of tyre to use, the only time you can use just one type of tyre is if the race is full wet from start to finish, as they would do in real life, any other type of race, Dry or Wet/Dry you must use a combination of tyre types (RH / SS) (inters / RH, SS) If you watch the moisture indicator top left of screen I think it is, tells you rain and standing water % also keep an eye on light and clouds as your driving round. The pit strategy is all down to you, nobody is going to hold your hand or tell you when to pit, everybody must pit twice, if you get your strategy wrong and on SS then it starts raining you may have to pit for tyres three times.

Using my 40 years of experience of driving for a living, I’ve tried to make this endurance as close to real life as possible with the tools we have to work with, you know we make plans for a weekend away or a visit to a track day, we never know just what the weather is going to throw at us till the last minute.

In testing with Gary and Bo we did a 15 lap race online in a private lounge the race was full wet start to finish 100%. I tried the same again yesterday my own lounge again online race 15 laps same settings as per the race details. This time started with standing water on track, misty and dull, but within 2 or 3 laps blue sky’s nice sunshine, track dried up 0% and stayed that way for the next 13 laps.

That’s about it for the insight of the endurance, a couple of tips I will give you I found from many many laps of testing is, watch your tyres the track can soon destroy them, also watch your pit entry speed, if you go in to fast, you’ll get part way along then jump back to the pit entry again, losing a lot of time.

As this TCR endurance is open to GTP members, guests of GTP and anyone else the only rule is stick to the tyre combination and respect everyone on track.

This is a Stock car, I believe it comes in at 612bhp after oil change and 1350Kg no tuning.

The room will be set to take this into account at 611bhp – 1350Kg tuning prohibited.

If you plan on joining us on track I hope this small insight is helpful, a big thanks to Cobani for his help, Cpt_d, turbonator, Joylord with testing.

Have you ever wondered what GT5 is all about?
I think TCR has found the answer to the question, respect, watch this head to head video.

5 laps of door to door and bumper to bumper full on racing, but not once was the respect for each other lost, not one inch of ground was given by the two members of TCR, but yet still showing that you can enjoy GT5 to the fullest.

GTP_Cpt_D & GTP_Wayna show just how all the members treat each other plus all the guests to TCR, if you find the world tracks getting a little tired, want to find a new and ever changing challenge, you think you can show the same respect to everyone on track, then come and join us at TCR.

Tonight the night I’m looking forward to this all ready, I’ll try and open a room and post the number here before feature race time 9pm GMT, we may even get some guests in too.
The track is shared for those that wish to get some practice laps in, you’ll find this car drives well on all four tyres of tyre, and then it’s just down to what the weather throws at us for the race.

TCR Endurance
As the core of TCR is the very finest of created tracks, this endurance race will be run on
a created track by one of our members. We will race a predetermined (easily available) car
with no tuning allowed, so that nobody will be on track with a superior set-up.
All our attention can therefore go to the track and tyre strategy.
Each driver must do two compulsory pit stops with the tyre regulations of F1 in mind:

- If it’s a dry race: Use RH and SS with at least two pit stops.
- If the race is part wet/dry: Use Inters and/or Wets and RH and/or SS with at least two pit stops.
- If the race is wet all the way: Use Inters and/or Wets with at least two pit stops.

Wow what a great turn out for the TCR endurance race, even though the race was full wet from start to finish, top mark to everyone that made it to the end, we also have a new king of the wet GTP_Cpt_D outstanding from start to finish.

I'm looking forward to the next one.

Sorry to let the side down but we have, Celebrated Easter a little bit more than we should have, I’m sure my arms legs and brain belong to someone else, so I’ll try to follow best I can from the back of the pack. Apologies

I'm three sheets to the wind.

glad to see so many members help in making this TCR event.

Phillip.

Edit Sorry had to bow out and watch, my arms were like lead and my legs and feet could not feel the pedals

TCR Endurance Race 1 Results:

We were positively surprised by a turnout of 12 drivers for this first endurance, so a big thank you for joining and trying your hand at this event:
  • GTP_w-g-e
  • GTP_Cpt_D
  • zohar110
  • STVM_MysticTuna
  • jmadden07
  • XR3Turbo
  • GTP_PASM
  • GTP_Joylord
  • Cobani
  • GTP_Eriba
  • MARK--75--
  • Jec172

15 laps of rain affected running, as I apparently checked the box "British Weather Please" (:ouch:), were in front of us with the grid as stated.

The race started with a 59% wet track and the first casualty was zohar110, spinning out and doing the gentlemen-thing by waiting for the pack to pass. 👍 At the front is was GTP_PASM climbing up to second early on.
With the rain steadily progressing, the top 3 actually had Intermediates fitted with STVM_MysticTuna the first of the Full Wets-runners.

A lead pack was formed with GTP_Cpt_D, GTP_PASM, GTP_w-g-e & XR3Turbo with the rest of the pack some 5 seconds behind. GTP_Eriba was having fun either way, althought in last position.

The first pitstops were for changing from Inters to Wets as the rain kept on going (71%).

GTP_Cpt_D tried to make a break for it at the front and STVM_MysticTuna and Cobani had a great clean battle for 6th.

Unfortunately jmadden07 and MARK--75-- disconnected with GTP_Eriba's hammered McLaren still in hot pursuit.

With the top four still on Inters with a track wetness of 83% pitstops were imminent.
Standings on lap 4:
  1. XR3Turbo
  2. GTP_Joylord
  3. Cobani
  4. STVM_MysticTuna
  5. GTP_Cpt_D (p=1)
  6. GTP_PASM (p=1)
  7. GTP_w-g-e (p=1)
  8. zohar110
  9. Jec172
  10. GTP_Eriba (p=1)

Still raining, the front runners who pitted were all steaming through the pack back to the front. The leader XR3Turbo, unfortunately, pitted with the crew sending him out on Racing Hards. With no grip even to get round a lap he retired.
GTP_Joylord and Jec172 both got excellent mileage out of their tyres in first and 8th place respectively. 👍

The rain stopped making Cobani, who's Full Wets were all but gone, stay out to see if it would stay dry. No such luck with strategy, as it started raining heavily again. :irked:

Pitstops on the way again as everyone was sliding around the track. GTP_Eriba respectfully retired with GTP_Cpt_D leading the pack with GTP_PASM a very close second. He went for Inters for his second compulsary pitstop which, with hindsight, wasn't the way to go. :indiff:

Jec172 disconnected after going for an interesting Inters on the front, Wets on the back approach. Zohar110 respectfully retired being out of contention and having a bad tyre choice at his last pitstop.

Cobani had a sniff at GTP_Joylord, but the latter had the better of him as the weather went from bad to worse.

On lap 13, second place was all to play for, with GTP_PASM, GTP_Joylord and GTP_w-g-e covered in a few seconds of each other. The battle of the night turned out to be a thriller, with GTP_w-g-e sneaking past GTP_Joylord with GTP_PASM sliding around on his Inters.

GTP_w-g-e took full advantage of the 100% wet track to outbrake GTP_PASM for second place on lap 14 out of 15 of the race.

After 15 laps of bad weather (Race Time: 44:39.xxx) these are the results of TCR Endurance Race 1:

  1. GTP_Cpt_D (p=2) (Personal Best: 2:51.425)
  2. GTP_w-g-e (p=2) (Personal Best: 2:50.423)
  3. GTP_PASM (p=2) (Personal Best: 2:48.765)
  4. GTP_Joylord (p=2) (Personal Best: 2:53.035)
  5. Cobani (p=2) (Personal Best: 2:54.301)
  6. STVM_MysticTuna (p=2) (Personal Best: 3:01.605)

First of all I would like to apologise for my drunken state, mixing meds with excessive amounts of champagne, table wine and gin/tonic didn’t fare well when having to mix with some of the cream members of TCR and guests.

Fantastic write up Cobani, and as always the members of TCR made the event work to the high standard we have come to expect from TCR. Top marks to all the guests, the respect shown to everyone on track from guests and members was outstanding.

Phillip.

A big thanks to Phil and Bo for putting on a great event at TCR 👍

Considering the driving talent out there, no-one was more surprised than me that I won it, nice to see a well populated grid for an endurance race.

Good write-up Bo, nice pics Bart. Thanks to all involved!

Great stuff last wednesday Phillip! Loved the races with the Delorean and good to see a full house for most of the evening! 👍 I'm glad I had the time to attend ... twice. Thanks again for the great evering I had! :sly:

(If a Delorean was needed, please let me know through pm guys.)

Sorry I haven't replied Bo but I don't have a pc at home and find it to laborious to do it on the PS3 as my phone had run out of internet data. But I just wanted to say thanks for hosting the endurance race as I love the concept and can't say much about the track (sorry and no offence Phil) but every corner was off camber, if you want big tracks you should ask turbonato (Dave), I would definitely join again especially if it's a premium car as I drive cockpit view and would be in need of the windscreen wipers to see where I'm going. But thumbs up…. good job.

Great video,great race...cheers!!!
Spy.
Thanks Mark, it was a great race I really enjoyed it hence the video, what did you think of the combo? As I was thinking of booking out Thursday to run the Renault Trophy and Luticia cars at 487pp tuning prohibited on racing hard (so the car is stock) on a track shuffle night where the winner would choose the track. But as it’s TCR I was going to offer a selection from my Tracks
Ronza Circuit (as in video)
Myoni Circuit
Potsbrough Circuit
GT Paddock Raceway
Pins Circuit (a bit tight and twisty)
Boxston Circuit
And a wild card Circuit, but I would also through in some world Circuits if people wished. The only thing I’m worried about is I seem to get disconnected a lot lately so it might be better to host it from my Lounge at least this way if I get disconnected I can rejoin and still be able to change the track selection.

It’s good to see so much happening on this thread.

Very strange you say that Jon, as every corner was at zero camber I used nether + or – on those settings.

So it must have something to do with PD coding as they should have all been flat, which is what I was after, this way according to your driving style, the corners should scrub your tyres , if you were very smooth the tyres may last 6 /7/ 8 laps at push. If you were a bit pushy you would be lucky to get 5 laps out of sport softs.

I spend hours testing the tyres to destruction before I set number of laps and pit stops, the only thing that was very hard to get perfect was a full wet race, that I’m afraid is in the hands of the gods, but glad you enjoyed it any way and all feedback is constructive, I thought Sunday when you said off camber was strange, as I said above camber was not used, so to my thinking should all be flat.

Dave comes up with some great tracks, but not the type for endurance races, studding endurance tracks like Sebring and Le-Mans and I’m sure others that are used, they all have one thing in common.

Long straights then a few twisty bit, then back to a long straight again before you hit a few more corners bends and chicanes then back to the straight again. I’m sure this is one of the reasons why the Le-mans race returns every year and the 12hrs Sebring race, think that one has been going since the 1950’s http://www.sebringraceway.com/

But if anyone can come up with great endurance tracks we can race any of them, this is what makes it all the more fun.

Phillip.

I know Phil it’s hard to please everyone but you know I’m all about the track and I meant no disrespect. What I have found when creating tracks is that if you have a hill that is off camber it will still be off camber even if the track creator setting are at 0 camber this doesn’t mean the track is level, because if the hill is off camber you will still drift or slide off the track were you have to be patient and wait for the grip, (not always bad) my experience sometimes is that you can use the camber settings to level out the track especially over crests but also sometimes when you use camber settings it can make the camber of the hill worse if it is already off camber. Sometimes I sacrifice two corners just so there’s grip on a corner that I may find important. Potsbrough is a good example of this if you look at the last sector as I had to lose camber on two corners to get the chicane level on the hill. But my three sector tracks are more about one hit wonders because they’re simple to learn and are more for racing with maybe two or three corners that may catch your attention, and as for my brother and I the biggest word for us in our vocabulary at the moment is rumble strips lol. You gotta love it.

Edit: I also tested the pit entry speed you can do about 100mph so roughly 120kph.

No your right Jon

But now you’ve hit the nail on the head Jon, it’s the terrain that makes the corners seem off camber, that was the whole idea so that you had to work the gear box all the way down and all the way back through again.

No good having a car with 7 gears and driving round only using 3rd and 4th that’s not driving, I hate tracks that you can go round flat out just using two gears may as well run with an auto box. I’m no racing driver I’ve spent 40 years trying to prefect smooth safe driving, but I do like to use the brake and all the gears when on track.

On the whole the track was very easy to drive with all the long straights and a couple of corners at the end of each, but you did have to slow right down to negotiate them, at the end of every straight it was all too easy to be too hot into the corners so pushing you off line, the full on wet did make it worse, like I said nothing I can do about that.

Phillip.
