The first thread I posted in was the predecessor to 'Calling all track designers...', 'Design an F1 track competition'. I thought this could be brought back as a new competition, but with different controls.

Each week a city or current circuit will be chosen (Alternating) eg: Paris may be chosen or the Hungaroring. Then a target series will be chosen eg: F1, long 24 hr circuit, small street club circuit. You then have a certain amount of time - probably a week - to design a circuit/modify it to your hearts content.

Please may all entries use Gmap-Pedometer saved to public and linked to in a post. After the time, we will have a vote and the winner chooses the next city/circuit.

Points Scoring
Round Win - 3
2nd place - 2
3rd place - 1
All other places score no points

Rules for circuit design.
Space for a reasonable pitlane adjacent to the start straight must be left. This can just be one side of a dual carriageway or a grassy area. No buildings should be moved for this.
Not too short, but not too long.
At the end of long straights, a reasonable run-off area should be left.

If similar or duplicate tracks are posted, the first will go through to the vote.
Multiple entries are not allowed, but editing and choosing a FINAL ENTRY is allowed. Please mark them with FINAL ENTRY.
When choosing a location, you may add one extra bound to the round.


For the first round, we will start with Minsk, in Belarus.

I'll have at least one up by then, the ones that have been posted so far look great as well :)
 
Here's mine. I like rendallio's the most so far, nice work man.

Hard to eliminate huge straights and keep it interesting.
Mine uses the capitol as the centerpoint. Nice big soccer stadium in the backdrop. Technical section cutting through the university. Plenty of runoff for the straights. Good undeveloped area for the pit complex. Runs clockwise, meant for F1.

(didn't realize it was 6 miles wtf, I somehow forgot about that. But it's easily feasible by shortcutting some parts through the University.)

It's actually only three miles, it seems like it goes to the finish then back through the course instead of ending where it starts.
 
Oh righhht. First time using this app, thanks for letting me know.

I must've accidentally hit the "complete there and back route button."

Fixed the submission and changed the layout just a bit. There was a straight coming out of turn 6 (turn one is right after checkpoint 1) that was too long so I broke it up a bit. Now it leads to a nice section leading straight toward the stadium. Total length, 3.4 miles/5.5 km.

I take it that it doesn't matter that some of these entries are showing up roads where there may in fact be only footpaths or even flights of steps? How plausible does it need to be?

To keep things going, I have started a new round on circuit editing.
This week is the Jerez circuit in Southern Spain.
To locate it, search Torre Melgarejo in gmap-pedometer.
 
If people who didn't design a track are allowed to vote, I vote 2 on Wardezes G as it is simply epic :D.
 
I like F and A, but A just wouldn't work because the track jumps off a bridge. There would need to be some major construction to make it work.

So two votes for F.

To avoid confusion, perhaps the person who posts the design briefing for the next round should include some actual parameters on what they are looking for. For instance, when Jerez was set as the theme, no further instructions were given - so technically, you could make a circuit adjacent to the Jerez circuit without actually using anything from it, and still have a legal entry. That was my thinking when I created that circuit in Minsk: there was nothing to say that I could not demolish and rebuild that bridge to accomodate the circuit, so I went ahead and did it.

Some of the parameters that I have seen used in other, similar competitions to this include the minimum and maximum length of the circuit, the maximum allowable length of a straight, the number of corners, the boundaries of the area people are allowed to design in (particularly useful if you want them to work on a particular town), what people are allowed to demolish, whether they can use public roads, and so on and so forth. It is assumed that anything an entry does which is not covered by the briefing is allowable, and should not be a factor in voting (though it's usually structured so that the person who sets the theme picks the winner; they cannot enter in the round themselves).
