Does this have any effect on grip, tire temp, cooling rates, tire wear, etc.?

I am extremely curious about this. If it has absolutely zero effect then I must wonder to some degree why it is included.

I'm pretty sure it has an effect.

There was one race in ITCC 5 runoffs at Silverstone that started wet and ended dry, cars had less grip at the end than normal because the track was cooled off due to the rain. Or at least that's what everyone was saying, could have just been excuses.

Very interesting. I wonder if extremely warm temperatures could cause tires to overheat slightly, and if cold temps cause tires to lose too much heat.

I'm on gt6 doing some tests, it does'nt seem like its doing anything currently.. I'll try a few more tracks and cars.

What kind of tests are you doing?

Night and day tests on brands hatch with a genki silvia, next will probably be a civic on silverstone. Have any suggestions? Maybe rain without surface water.

Are you testing lap times, grip levels, tire temperatures, or what?

D. All of the above. lol

Are you testing online? Because that's the only way it would have a significant effect.

Either temperature or the track wasn't fully dry yet. Even when it shows 0% after rain stopped the track is still a little wet especially off line.

Ah yes, I'll try online in a bit.

Track temp should effect tire wear but i have never noticed this. It will also effect grip and tire temp but will react different with different tire types. In general harder tyres should wear less than others and softs should ware quite quickly when the track is hotter and on a faster car.

What I've found so far is track temperatures do not effect tire wear or grip, both on and offline.

Obviously PD hasnt bothered to implement these simple features into what they call the real driving simulator. These features where in codemasters f1 2009 that was released on the wii. Come on PD shape up.

It's obviously not a driving sim, it would'nt be on the PS3 if it were. It would'nt have updates if it were. It would'nt be online if it were.. It is a game, it always has been and always will be. The driving simulator bs is for sales purposes only.

If you really want to test it , do a free run on Nordschleife in the morning (push car as hard as you can ,doing some constant laptime) ,then run it again afternoon (with ghost on) ,when temperature is 2 - 4 degrees higher than in the morning . You'll notice (timing and ghost) ,car handles differently (not much ,but still) .

Ran with weather on last night, but no rain. Had to change line through Au Rouge so I could still flatfoot it. Thought it was my setup. Changed weather to off - was able to go back to my other line through there and also pulled at least a second quicker laps at spa last night.

Not sure if it is track temperature but there is a noticeable difference in grip between the Nürburg 24' conditions, compared to the same track in other races, both at 0% moisture.

During Nürburg 24' races, the grip level is slightly higher in the dry, and stays like that until about 20%. From then on, grip gets (obviously) worse (RH).

Has anyone ever noticed a grip difference between driving on/near the racing line and driving off/away from it? In real life your tires get more grip from the rubber on the track where the cars drive the most (the racing lines).

Track temp does make a difference when how the car handles due to changes in tire grip.

I run nascar motegi races a lot and a 2 or 3 degree swing makes a difference. A loose car in 70 degree weather will push when the track cools down. Have to make small adjustments to correct these differences.
