I downloaded this last week or so. Let me tell you, I'm getting addicted to TrackMania. TrackMania Nations is basically a free look at TrackMania. It is incredibly futuristic and (some may disagree) somewhat of an evolution of racing. This especially lies in building your own tracks in amazing settings. It's almost as if this game continues where the classic PC game, "Stunts"/"4D Sports Driving" left off.
I am an American, so I'm riding as part of the USA team. Trouble with this comes in two ways. For one, I have to put my graphics on Safe Mode since I don't have an nVidia card. Second of all, the computer crashes and restarts my computer when I try to use the Paint program. I basically just leave the painting options alone. This game has CRAZY stunts! Doing the Training exercises (I'm in the Advanced ones as of this post) leaves me feeling like, "I pulled THAT off?" One exercise was a level that has a boost pad, has a spiral to it, and it's over. I couldn't believe how I hit my marks and passed it with a gold medal. I'm struggling with the last "E" exercise (Advanced Training) which consist of a bunch of walls that you drive on... followed by another series of walls. The stunts are pretty scary.
Most of the tracks I have created are more like regular circuits. I tried making a variety of closed-circuit courses and open-circuit courses. This game puts all the wild Hot Wheels tracks to shame. T.M. Nations doesn't allow for a track where you can modify the ground around you, so you essentially have a bunch of elevated roads and loops. This game is crazy on a lot of levels. It even puts the Rush series to greater shame. Almost any game series that banks on wild stunts is put to shame with this game. The circuits I've created are mostly traditional circuits. I did, however, put things in like turbo pads and stuff. I'm going to try loops and wall-riding stuff in later creations.
Playing this game makes me wonder about getting TrackMania Sunrise (since TrackMania United is not in non-online stores to my knowledge). The TrackMania series has been around for a few years. And as usual, I'm a late bloomer. This is a crazy game.
