You could also choose to back up your save before conducting the trade, and then restore the back up after you sent the car so you'll still have it. This way you won't get scammed.
True, it may not be called a trade anymore by doing this, but the important thing is that both people get the cars they wanted. I wouldn't call it cheating though.
